We head south from San Jose along the coast in search of Elephant seals, then head inland toward Templeton to visit a ranch. We were graciously invited to stay for a few days at Rob's family ranch, where we hung out with some cows and snakes! This guest house is probably the definition of what a man cave should look like. Fun fact: the ranch was previously owned by James Brolin (before he married Barbara Streisand). His son Josh Brolin (actor who played Thanos in the Avengers) grew up on this ranch. Dans le monde de la course au large, le chantier lorientais Marsaudon Composites a une solide réputation, lui qui a notamment construit de mythiques trimarans tels qu’IDEC 2 ou Prince de Bretagne. Racheté en 2017 par Damien Cailliau, il a désormais un potentiel de production de dix unités de 42 à 57 pieds par an. Une gamme qui s’adresse d’abord à un public de marins avertis souhaitant conjuguer technique, sensations et multicoque. L’ORC 42 – à l’instar de ses grands frères – n’est pas un simple multicoque habitable, c’est une machine capable de dépasser sans forcer les 20 nœuds et de friser les 30 nœuds lors d’une navigation engagée. This week we tackle servicing the FORD engine in our boat. Our good friend Chris is here to help go over the engine thoroughly and help get it running sweetly. But does it all go to plan? Do we manage to do the complete service and what else will be left to do after Chris has gone? Remember we're doing all of this so we can go full time cruising as a sailing family in a few years time. We're hoping eventually to get the boat set up for single handed sailing so we can relax knowing she is an easy boat to sail in any conditions from light winds to rough seas. Servicing the diesel engine so thoroughly at this point means we're one step ahead for the day we finally splash and we will have confidence that the engine will run properly and reliably. This is obviously a huge refit and refurbishment of this big, old, abandoned steel yacht and it's not only time consuming, it's complicated and quite expensive so we really do value any help we can get, whether it's helpful advice and comments on the video or gifts through our Amazon Wishlist or actual contributions through Patreon, Paypal and Ko-Fi.
