Although the first 24 hours of Sailing Mediterranean and the real family sailing experience were challenging. We felt extremely excited, the feeling of being a family sailing around the world and living on a sailboat is really mesmerizing. And not to forget sailing coast of Greece, what beautiful sights. Seuls des pêcheurs Brésiliens y font quelquefois escale pour démêler leurs filets, le reste du temps, l’île nous appartient ! Difficile de dater la première occupation de ce petit paradis mais d’après quelques polissoirs qui y ont été retrouvé, cela semble prouver que les premiers habitants furent les amérindiens. Des écrits plus précis témoignent qu’entre le dix-septième et dix-huitième siècle, la France organise des expéditions. Viennent alors s’installer à tour de rôle, les Jésuites et les lépreux de Cayenne. Plus tard, en 1852, c’est l’ouverture d’un des premiers bagnes de Guyane qui sera abandonné vingt ans plus tard après une épidé-mie de fièvre jaune. En 1923, l’île est louée par la femme d’un bagnard qui y met en place une ferme « modèle », pendant dix ans. Puis entre 1981 et 2001, l’Institut Pasteur installe une annexe et implante un élevage de Saimiris en vue de l’élaboration d’un traitement anti paludique. Et finalement, depuis 2005, le site est affecté au Conservatoire du littoral qui s’occupe de le préserver. En s’approchant des immenses fromagers, on sent toute l’histoire s’en émaner. Les agoutis paressent autour des énormes racines, la faune foisonne et sous les feuilles mortes et les arbres effondrés, la vie renaît. Cette indispensable litière fait vivre des milliers d’invertébrés, qui par leurs actions combinées à celles des bactéries et des champignons entretiennent la décomposition de cet humus. Dans ce luxuriant sous-bois, l’agitation des petits singes écureuils comble à merveille notre curiosité. D’un bond, en voilà un sur l’épaule de mon capitaine, ça doit être l’éclaireur ! Les autres nous guettent de loin mais dès les premiers jappements de leur messager, la méfiance est rompue et toute une horde de petites pattes orangées nous saute dessus sans aucun complexe ! Nous nous plaisons à croire que nous devenons, de jour en jour, d’inséparables amis liés par la pulpe de mangue. Devant leur fri-mousse peluchée, nous sommes attendris comme des gamins et il nous faut nous trouver de bonnes excuses pour ne pas passer tout notre temps à leur éplucher leurs fruits préférés ! Alors nous trou-vons celle du mauvais temps pour rester à bord de notre Blacky, avançons sur quelques réparations à la McGyver et fignolons de couture notre aménagement. Faut-il avoir de la chance ou simplement se dire que le hasard fait bien les chose en bateau ? Eh bien, quand une plaque de vase emporte ancre et navire juste dans le créneau où l’équipage est à bord pour agir, je suis tentée de dire que les deux réponses sont acceptables ! Parce que dans un cas comme celui-ci, vous pouvez avoir la plus sécurisante des pioches, le dérapage est inévitable ! C’est un phénomène bien caractéristique de Guyane. La vase par-court un long chemin, elle arrive du fleuve Amazone au Brésil, migre le long du plateau continental, forme des bancs et se dé-place sans arrêt sur le littoral en provoquant des changements ex-trêmes. Ces évolutions sont sujet d’observations et d’études car quasi uniques de part leur rapidité. Ce qui explique clairement l’avortement du diner entre amis que nous étions en train d’arroser gaiement ! Engine issue forestalled our 2021 Memorial Day run up to Door County, Wisconsin from our winter storage in Green Bay. Once the problems were identified, sitting at the dock, waiting for the replacement parts to arrive as the weather grew nicer and nicer was quite painful and unpleasant. In questo quinto ed ultimo episodio visitiamo il Regno di Tonga, quindi facciamo rotta su Minerva Reef, raggiungiamo la Nuova Zelanda - dove ci troviamo in questo momento - e raccontiamo ormai i quasi due anni passati nella terra dei Kiwi. Una precisazione: ci scusiamo per la qualità del materiale video riguardante in particolare Tonga Vava'u, non esattamente all'altezza dei video precedenti. La nostra permanenza nell'arcipelago è stata fortemente influenzata dalle pessime condizioni meteo. A Neiafu abbiamo trascorso 12 giorni ininterrotti fra pioggia e burrasche. A causa della meteo ci siamo trovati fortemente in ritardo nella stagione, a periodo dei cicloni già bello che iniziato, senza una finestra adeguata per affrontare il difficile passaggio verso la Nuova Zelanda. Ogni depressione in formazione dalle parti di Fiji era motivo di preoccupazione ed eravamo leggermente stressati. We manage a trip to Loch Aline and back to Tobermory before we are struck by more engine problems. Life afloat is full of challenges and as sailors you just have to overcome them and move on. In southwest Shikoku, near Cape Ashizuri, lies the wonderful town of Tosa Shimizu offering spectacular vistas, history, and charm as well as convenience for yachts who harbor there. With laundry, restaurants, shops, marine stores all within minutes if not seconds away it makes for a great stopover. Oh, and even the gas station 20 meters away will bring a truck to the dock to fuel up your diesel. Then there are the people . . . I can`t overstate how friendly and welcoming they were despite.
