This week, we find ourselves all over the place as we jump around from one small project to the next. First we have the side decks brought in with the help from a few of the guys around the yard, and once all the protective plastic is removed, it makes such a difference in the look of the boat. We also bond in the shower pan for our master bath. A step that is necessary before we can begin any of the structural webbing which sits above it. Then, just for a bit of fun, Matt and I take a drive through the eastern shore with our friend Tucker to get a Christmas tree for the marina office. Cruising FULL TIME entails lots of factors and TONS of DECISIONS that dictate our DAILY MOVES. But there's one VERY complicated factor that is and OBSESSION with all cruising sailors. Vent de Nord-est, près serré, rafales, déferlantes, courant, le tout en mer des Caraïbes, le shaker de bananas est garanti ! Gardez-vous bien d’imaginer toutes les navigations dans les Antilles, paisibles et reposantes, l’illusion serait totale ! Les croisières dans cette région du monde peuvent vite devenir agitées, voir vraiment chaotiques. Une excellente raison pour éviter toute vaisselle en verre à bord ! Il y a tout de même une bonne chose à retenir de ces nerveuses traversées, les arrivées en sont que plus appréciées. Sous le vent d’Antigua, Black Lion n’a plus qu’à glisser, rejoindre Jolly Harbour (port officiel d’entrée) et s’avancer prudemment dans le chenal pour atteindre le ponton des autorités. Il y a ici, des airs d’Australie. Comme là-bas, de belles villas en bord de bras de mer, s’accommodent, devant leur terrasse, de ponton privé, bateau assortit et mieux encore, système de levage automatique. Toute cette organisation ne pouvait supposer qu’une clearance bien structurée dans les bureaux de la santé, des douanes, de l’immigration et du port autonome regroupés au même endroit. Point qui s’est confirmé en un quart d’heure et 31 dollars US pour notre permis de croisière. Dès lors, libres de nos mouvements, nous pouvions aller nous fondre à la population Antiguaise. Il y a quelque chose d’excitant de descendre pour la première fois en un lieu nouveau, de ne pas savoir à quoi s’attendre. J’adore garder une part d’inconnu, la découverte en est que plus plaisante. L’approche se fait sans aprioris, sans préjugés et c’est bien souvent les premières rencontres qui forgent les souvenirs que l’on va garder du pays. Nous nous souviendrons de ce pêcheur en panne d’essence et de Luis, cet artiste Dominicain au fort accent exotique. Sans hâte, on prend le temps de discuter, de nous intéresser en essayant d’en apprendre sur les us et coutumes. Évidemment ce n’est que quelques bribes, mais en poussant un peu plus loin, embarqués dans un transport en commun, on peut facilement être immergé et s’initier de quelques mœurs. L’authentique, nous le retrouvons dans les marchés. Pas ceux réservés aux touristes, les vrais marchés, aux poissons, aux fruits et légumes. À Saint John’s, capitale d’Antigua, ils ne sont pas bien grands, les poissons pas bien gros et les primeurs peu nombreux. Les vieilles bâtisses en bois colorées donnent un peu de charme et la cathédrale apporte une trace du passé. À côté de ça, voulant plaire à une clientèle croisiériste, s’est créé un Antigua, à nos yeux, artificiel. Un Antigua duty free et postiche, feint et filoutier, casinos et bateaux de luxe. Là où le lustre s’exhibe en grande pompe c’est à English Harbour. Sur la côte au vent. Nous nous y sommes rendus en prenant par le sud, dans une houle courte de face ! Erreur stratégique de mon capitaine. Un grand tour par le nord aurait été bien plus agréable. L’impair passé, le bon est à venir à Free Man Bay, sous l’eau, devant la surprise d’une épave et des Piliers d’Hercules, surprenantes formations géologique sculptées dans la falaise ! Our final day of sea trials involves fitting the Code 0 Anna made in a previous video to Paikea. Shayne has been his usual resourceful self and repurposed some titanium rod from our salvaged carbon fibre mast into a pin to fit through our dragon's nose. This means we can now fly both the 0 and kites from this point on the bow pole. We also talk about sheeting the Code 0 and the love affair Shayne has with his KZ furler. Regular oil checks exposed milky oil in our port Volvo sail drive. Just Catamarans were able to haul us out last minute to replace our prop seals and service our sail drives. This week we finally marked a job off of our ‘to-do list’ that we have been putting off for a while. The vinyl covered bimini headliners have been a problem in our minds - and turned out a lot easier than we expected!! We are really happy with how they worked out - and they’ve made the whole cockpit area look great. The design of the roof has 4 cut outs where the new inserts fit in slightly recessed. We went with a plain white vinyl covering. 3mm marine ply board was carefully shaped to fit snugly into the recesses. We then covered the boards in white leather look vinyl. These panels were fitted in place on the bimini using a very heavy duty 3M dual lock Velcro system. The final result is awesome. For a while now we have been wondering why our salt water supply in the boat is smelling a little fishy🐟🍤- so after a little investigation and cleaning of the main filters - which we do on a regular basis - we discovered another little pump filter hidden behind larger pipes - watch the video to see the sea life we found inside😳🤣 With our planned departure date hurtling towards us, Teagan and I have also started looking at provisioning for the trip, making lists and even buying in stuff that have suitable best-before dates. We invested in a vacuum sealer so that we can vacuum seal a lot of groceries, (and hopefully lot of fish that the boys keep promising us they will be catching) which will keep things fresher for longer but also pack stuff as tightly as possible, making it possible to store more. Black Friday just came and went recently and we took the opportunity to get ourselves a drone. Figured if we want our YouTube channel to grow, we need to up our videography game - and nothing beats really great drone footage when you are in beautiful secluded areas - now all we have to do is get to practicing flying it and bringing it back home safely 😂- which with the technology on the drones at the moment, on land, getting to ‘return to home’ is easy - but a whole different story on a moving yacht.

An exciting, yet frustrating week as we continue to explore the amazing sights of Bocas Del Toro region. We grab our swimmers, surfboards and rent a couple bikes to explore a place called Bluff beach. Our fun is short lived as everything starts breaking, leaving us stranded in the middle of nowhere. We then pick up the hook and sail Zephyr over to Red Frog, Bastimentos with the hopes of checking out Red Frog Beach. However, we get a shock surprise and our day doesn’t quite work out as we expected.
