Mittlerweile ist es Tradition, dass wir am 24. Dezember segeln gehen, den Anker werfen und mit Freunden in den Heiligabend feiern. Mit Glühwein, Bier und vielen Leckereien. Zu den Weihnachtsfeiertagen haben wir eine besondere Doku zum zurücklehnen und relaxen: Philipp Hympendahl hat in dem Moment die Leinen losgeworfen, als die meisten ihre Boote schon lange im Winterlager verstaut hatten. Einhand macht er sich auf, mit seiner "African Queen" in den Winter zu segeln. Was er dabei neben Kälte und Einsamkeit Kurioses und Abenteuerliches erlebt... seht selbst.

We move onto our sailboat! ...Then immediately get [alpha] covid which lands us in 10 days of immediate & mandatory quarantine stuck inside our boat. At the time, contact tracing was in full swing and we could've been criminally liable for leaving our boat, so we were quite trapped. How it went down: when we moved out of our apartment and onto the boat, Zaq was feeling a little drained. We didn't think too much of it until after moving when he started to feel worse. So he booked a test and they scheduled him for one the next day - which is the first day of our video (also Lisa's first day of symptoms). We weren't really prepared to quarantine. We had some frozen and dry/canned food from the move but hadn't gotten fresh groceries yet. Good thing we didn't run out of propane, because who likes to eat dry rice and oatmeal!? and you can't get delivery (or your mail) when you can't get off your boat. Lisa was trapped with no wifi and a cell phone plan that didn't support her full-time virtual classes while Zaq missed a week of work. But we laid low and carried out our quarantine, and were very happy to step out into a fresh, rainy-grey spring morning once it was all over. We are having a fuel tank crisis...our fuel tanks are BOTH leaking and it's getting worse! And, we are stuck in the Bahamas with only ONE welder in Marsh Harbor who is busy for the next three weeks. And, we have 165 gallons of fuel in our tanks and there are no storage drums on any of the islands to handle that load. And, we are not sure the tanks can even fit out the cabin door. It's definitely a crisis! In the next two videos, we will share with your our experience with leaking fuel tanks. In this video, we will tell you why we removed our tanks and how we did it. The process was so much more complicated than we could ever imagine. In the next video, we will share with you what we did with the tanks after removing them, our speculation as to why our tanks leaked in the first place, what we are going to do to prevent this from happening again, and how our inexperience cost us a lot of time and money. We will complete the video by sharing the cost of this project. In this episode we start sailing on a new sailboat, a Warwick 53 named Koro Vita. This boat can sail! So balanced at the helm, most of the time you don't need autopilot or hands on the wheel! During a day sail we head to a sandy island and swim along a coral reef and wall. We find numerous Crown of Thorns starfish here, and show the sort of damage that they do to the hard coral. Then we start our cruise with a trip up the Yasawa Islands chain, stopping at Waya Island, then Manta Ray pass / bay, before heading over to the Blue Lagoon. The captain of Koro Vita is Don, who introduces Jeannine to Marmite.... We swim with a large manta ray and have one feed in the lights off the boat's stern. Thanks for following! Hey everyone! Here's another exciting episode detailing our 3,000 mile trip through Southeast Alaska on our 37' sailboat, Maya. We start the episode just after arriving on Coronation Island, where we spend a few days enjoying Egg Harbor, Windy Bay, Alikula Bay, and Warren Cove on Warren Island. In the second half of the video we fish the North side of Noyes Island- anchoring at Garcia Cove, Hole-in-the-Wall, and Steamboat Bay before making our way to Craig, Alaska (Pop. 1200) to prepare for our longest passage to date... a 6 day non-stop sail from in Craig, Alaska to Neah Bay Washington.
