A Boat in the Marina broke loose and hit us! Is this typical boat life?

During an unexpected gale wind storm a house boat in the marina broke it's dock lines and crashed into us! Our Catamaran sailboat suffered damage but the situation could have been much worse. We haven't had time to make repairs as a new ice storm was quickly approaching! We were faced with the difficult task of sorting out how we would live inboard during a long stretch of below freezing temperatures.
