We think it would be helpful to share our ratings and reviews of the six Long Island Sound Harbor towns we visited in July 2020. We are the kind of cruisers that like to be at anchor and independent of marinas and mooring balls. But, we do appreciate things like cruiser friendliness and things to do in and around the dinghy dock, if there is one. In this video we review and rate 6 towns: Port Washington, Oyster Bay, Huntington, Port Jefferson, Sag Harbor, and Montauk. We review them in three categories: 1) Things to do - history, cuteness of town, access to NYC, walkability, restaurants, etc., 2) Cruiser Friendliness - free water, free pumpout, free dinghy dock, anchoring area vs mooring balls, close provisioning and chandlery, 3) Hang Time - would you want to spend more than a day there In each of the towns we review, we give a rating in the three categories out of 10 and then an overall rating of the town out of 10. Close finishes have been a feature of this year’s RORC Caribbean 600 and that trait continued in IRC One with a rematch between two British JPK 1180s. Sunrise and Dawn Treader last met in the 2021 Rolex Fastnet Race and Sunrise won the world’s biggest offshore race overall. Dawn Treader’s Fastnet was a miserable experience, suffering a broken mast in first few miles of the iconic race. Fast-forward to the RORC Caribbean 600, Tom Kneen’s Sunrise (GBR) was pushed all the way by Ed Bell’s Dawn Treader (GBR). The two teams are very friendly off the water, but out on the 600-mile race track, the gloves were off for four days and nights of intense racing. Sunrise won the battle and IRC One, but only just, beating Dawn Treader into second place by under 12 minutes after IRC time correction. Third in IRC One was Jacques Pelletier’s Breton team racing the Milon 41 L’Ange de Milon (FRA). Ross Applebey’s victory in IRC Two was his eighth class win in the RORC Caribbean 600 and the seventh for Scarlet Oyster (GBR). The Oyster 48 finished the race just before dawn on Friday 25th February, taking class line honours and win after IRC time correction. The remainder of the podium for IRC Two is as yet undecided, but as of 12:38 AST on Friday 25th February, no other team in the class can better Scarlet Oyster’s corrected time. #Caribbean600 #RORCracing

The winner of the nine-strong Class40 division was decided on the fourth day of the RORC Caribbean 600 with a dramatic finish between two teams. Charles-Louis Mourruau’s Guidi, which had led for most of the race, stalled as the breeze faded with the finish line beckoning. Finimmo took the lead in the last few miles to win by just 61 seconds after racing for well over three days and nights. The spirit in the Class40 division shone through with the Finimmo team going to greet Guidi into English Harbour, consoling their adversaries. The Owen Clarke designed Finimmo was sailed by a team of four co-skippers; Herve Thomas, Benoit de Froidmont, Gerald Veniard and four-time Vendée Globe sailor Kito de Pavant. Figarist Gerald Veniard, taking part in his second race, spoke on behalf of the team: “Our goal was to finish in the top three. We had a good start and were the first Class40 at Barbuda, but then Guidi came back and smashed us downwind. We got back at them at St Maarten but then they extended on the downwind leg to Guadeloupe. Our strategy for Guadeloupe did not work at all. After that we were 20 miles behind and we thought the race was lost. It was a big surprise to see Guidi was offshore and now had wind after Redonda. Preparing to cruise off the grid for three months begins with a massive stock up of provisions. After taking an inventory we head into to hot Bocas Town via panga boat. Every store carries different items and are spaced out so it’s many hours of strategic shopping with a heavy load on our backs. Once back at Red Frog marina on Bastimentos island, we prepare for departure by completing a couple of projects on board. We expect navigation to be challenging in the San Blas islands where we’re headed so first we try to figure out a workaround for our malfunctioning depth sounder. It turns out the wine glass filled with water against the hull inside the boat is able to transmit the sonar beam! Next we install dinghy wheels because there will be many beach landings and few dinghy docks in San Blas. Meanwhile, we’ve figured out how to get even more provisions delivered - the heavy stuff like booze and milk - which is a huge win for us. Lastly Bill cleans the bottom for the first time in six months, a huge job since Calico Skies has a complete ecosystem below. Leider waren unsere Lewmar Portlights nach 20 Jahren undicht. Austausch der Dichtungen an den Drehverschlüssen brachte keine Verbesserung! Austausch der Dichtung im Rahmen brachte keine Verbesserung. Captain Tolley's Creeping brachte keine Verbesserung. Also haben wir beschlossen alle 11 Portlights zu tauschen. Das kostete zwar richtig viel Geld, machte richtig viel Arbeit (die Aufsteckrahmen mußten auch noch alle zugeschnitten werden). Aber alles ist dicht und es sieht super aus! Viel Spaß

It’s the middle of winter for most, but here in sunny San Diego, it’s 75 degrees every day. The San Diego Yacht Club knows exactly what to do with this formula and has been hosting the Women's Winter Invitational Regatta for the last 6 years and 2022 brought in an ever-growing interest from clubs and associations all across the US, including Hawaii and a team from Mexico. 24 teams were accepted to the slate and arrived for racing February 12-13th.

Fattoria Montellori, is a lovely Tuscany winery on the Chianti Region, between Lucca and Florence, owned by the Nieri family since nearly 150 years. The production goes from great full body reds (supertuscans) to the traditional Chianti, and to the one of the best Italian champagne ‘Montellori pas dosè’. It is a privilege to assist to the harvesting and, why not, to take part to the olive harvest in one of the many farmhouses on our hills

Tudo corria bem na travessia. Saíram de #ubatuba às 3h00 da tarde mas quando chegou à noite ali na Ilhabela o #motor começou a vazar óleo e parou. Pensamos que tinha fundido o motor. Foi acionado a #marinha e o Corpo de bombeiro. Foram resgatados e levados para um local seguro. No dia seguinte podemos contar com ajuda de grandes amigos para solucionar o problema.
