We drop by Dog Leg Creek and pick up a little dinghy fuel before having lunch at Cockatoo Island, our first purchased meal in 3 months. Waiting for the morning high tide we move up to the waterfall of Crocodile Creek and tie No Regrets in middle of the deep pool at the base of the falls. With the outgoing tide No Regrets is left completely landlocked in the tiny pool to await the next high tide to escape. Not As Crew, But As Custodians. Fully Engaged, Fully Into It And Loving Their D’s. It took a couple of weeks to organise, but we did it. Thanks to John we found ourselves on a Zoom. Lockie custodian of PIM was first to join, it being his first Zoom call, he was excited. Then Ryan of PERI, followed by brothers Ollie McKay of JANUS and Gus McKay of GOBLIN. The conversation took off and then was wrapping up when Nelson Brown of GNOME jumped online to take us home. If there was one thing I took away from this convo it was the sheer delight of sailing a boat with your mates, on a regular basis. The resurgence of the D Class is a masterclass in what it takes to ensure the future of a fleet. I hope you enjoy listening to this wonderful conversation as much as I did making it.

Tahmin de tutmazsa, karı bize kalıyor 😆 🌪 Özellikle "Gust" dediğimiz sağanak rüzgarların şiddetini kolluyoruz. Sağanaklar kısa kısa ise çok kritik olmuyor. Ama uzun süreli ise, buna dikkat etmek gerekiyor. 🌬 Birçok videomda rüzgar şiddetlenirse, estiği yöne gidin demişimdir. Bu bölümde aslında bunu demonstre etmek istedim. Bir bölgede rüzgarın estiği yön ne ise o yakaya ve coğrafyadan faydalanıp sığınabilecek bir koy/liman bulmanızı öneriyorum. 📝 Örneğin: Batıdan rüzgar esiyorsa, batı yakasına veya batıya kapalı bir koya sığınmanızı öneriyorum. We finally set sail from Gosford on "The Doghouse" bound for Queensland, but were dealt some heavy blows early with torrential rain, flooding and huge swell resulting in a change to our plans. Op de ankerplek in Porto Santo doen we de laatste klusjes en dan halen we het anker op en zeilen naar Madeira, Quinto do Lorde. Helaas is de haven vol en moeten we een nachtje op de oceaan voor anker, maar dan is er toch ineens plek. We maken een wandeling in de omgeving en zien voor het eerst een zwart strand. Het resort waar we in de haven liggen is een spookstad. Het is al sinds 2015 failliet, maar de haven is nog operationeel. We huren een auto en kunnen dan verder de omgeving in. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen. I have recently been reading a lot of books about sailing in rough seas, particulalry ones around the UK and Iceland. This has also lead me into the debates over sea anchors so I decided what b etter way to decide for myslef than to test one on the Black Pig. So, I got a sea anchor and this video shows me testing it out to see if it will really stop me drifting like it should do. The test was largely successful, but I learnt a few things. Firstly you need to size an anchor to your boat, secondly you need wind to to get the full effectiveness of the anchor. I also test the new jib weight and the extension cable for my outboard battery. This means I can now tuck the battery away in the stowage area of the dinghy. We'll of course be keeping an eye on how well the battery performs today to. This time we will take you to the Algarve along the southern coast of Portugal. We left Cascais in the afternoon for an overnight passage. The wind started out very light and increased as the evening progressed. The seas increased and surfing down waves with speeds above 9 knots. We arrived in Portimão just around noon the following day. It was a warm sunny day. Great way to start a new place that we would fall in love with. We met up with friends and had some great parties. Including a celebration of our 12 1/2 year wedding anniversary and Michael's birthday. Hope you enjoy it. Music by Troy and Paula Haag
