Overcoming our BIGGEST #boatlife CHALLENGE Yet to Continue Sailing to Panama | Harbors Unknown Ep 71 We should be sailing right now but instead we are in Great Inagua, the southernmost island in the Bahamas, attempting to fix the headboard on our main sail so we can continue our passage to Panama, where we need to arrive by June 1st, before the start of hurricane season, as mandated by our insurance. That date is just one week away, and if we are able to fix our sail, we have another 800 miles to sail. Apart from a few cruisers, customs and a Morton's salt factory there's not much here. In 2021, we sailed our Balance 526 Catamaran from Cape Saint Francis, South Africa to the island of Grenada in the Caribbean on a 30 day passage. Since then, we've been sailing up the islands exploring beautiful anchorages and meeting great people. Over the next few years, we'll be sailing through the Bahamas, San Blas, Panama, and across the Pacific. With any luck, eventually we'll sail around the world. We're from Santa Cruz, California and grew up in and around the water. Leaving Geraldton we sail out to the Abrolhos Islands, location of Australia's most horrendous mutiny and massacre. Anchoring in Turtle Bay on East Wallabi Island where we find a sleepy seal resting at the waters edge. Taking the tender we head around to West Wallabi Island where the Webbie Hayes fort can be found. Built in June 1629 it is the first recorded European construction in Australia, and scene for an battle of survival. We grab our dive gear and jump in to crystal clear waters and catch a few crayfish (Western Rock Lobster) using a makeshift snare made from a broom stick handle. Returning to Geraldton we get to go for a sail in the Batavia Longboat Replica, which incredibly which took 48 passengers all the way to Batavia (Jakarta) safely. The Superyacht Cup Palma 2022, got off to a flying start with a quartet of J Class yachts, conducting a superb symphony of sail racing, out on the sparkling waters of the Bay of Palma, to launch the latest edition of Europe's longest-running superyacht regatta. Day 2’s finish of the first race of the 2022 ORC World Championship, has not only put results on the scoreboards of the three classes racing at this event, but also given the participants a full experience of all race conditions offered here in northern Sardinia.   British Olympic Sailing Coach, Jon Emmett, was at Kiel Week and he spoke to ILCA 6 Gold Medal Winner Mara Stransky of Australia and ILCA 7 sailor Kaarle Tapper of Finland. Njörðr, the Norse god of the sea and the wind was clearly smiling upon both the 44Cup Marstrand, and local team Artemis Racing, for the first day of the 2022 44Cup’s third event, off western Sweden’s holiday hot spot of Marstrand. New Zealand Race Day at the Superyacht Cup Palma Some big changes in fortune, along with a change in wind direction, saw results in the Superyacht Cup Palma fleet set the scene for a winner-takes-all finale after a day of frenetic activity out on the Bay of Palma. The Corinthian Yacht Club National Women's Invitational Team Race for the Thayer Trophy, the US's only 3 against 3 women's team racing regatta, in keelboats with spinnakers, took place  in the waters off historic Marblehead Massachusetts, with six teams going head-to-head in two days of tough competition and challenging wind conditions. From south-westerly winds gusting up to 20 knots, and one of the sharpest sea states the class has endured, dropping to five to six knots, and the lightest conditions sailable by the nimble RC 44, the 44Cu Marstrand's, penultimate day, provided a complete test for the teams off west Sweden’s holiday hot spot. The World on Water's Christophe Favreaux talked to Sailing Week's Founder and President, Luca Rizzotti, at this year's Sailing Week about his new project, "The Sailing Youth Series" in conjunction with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Just one race was sailed on the fourth day of the 2022 5.5 Meter World Championship at Hankø Yacht Club in Norway. The win went to Jean Genie,  who put on a dominate display in the tough conditions.    In a testing final day amid challenging conditions the ultimate outcome of the 2022 Superyacht Cup Palma could not possibly have been closer. The destination of the overall Superyacht Cup Palma Trophy remained in doubt until the end of the Saint Regis Race Day, with the end result only decided on count back.

Julian Bethwaite of Australia is no stranger to high performance skiff sailing, he's actually, kind of a big deal! He and his father Frank developed the 49er and hundreds of innovative skiff concepts with 18 footer skiffs. He also created the 29er. And the Skiff revolution was born with his help and Olympic fame followed. He's here in Aarhus to share his thoughts join the evolution of the 49er and its future...and just to observe and help the class!

Up and coming Olympians Micah Wilkinson and Erica Dawson from New Zealand are loving the fully foil advancement in their boat, and taking full advantage of their skills while airborne.

Swedish sailors Emil Jaarudd and Hanna Jonsson are loving the switch to full foiling Nacra 17. For Emil, foiling is his passion and the adjustment to the boat has come at the perfect time. In this episode we explore the (almost) abandoned island of Rinia and Leo gets the chance to show off his kitesurfing skills. Then we set sail in quite windy conditions via Syros south to Sifnos and then to Kimolos. Our anchorage turns out to be rather windy and we are boat bound for 2 days with 30-40 kts. of wind. As the meltemi calms we head to Polyaigos where Leos dad had discovered a cave, large enough to fit a small sailboat in calm conditions (proven by Leo's dad already). So we had a mission, a very nerve-wracking one. We sailed our lovely Hallberg Rassy 352 in a cave, stupid yes, but probably also a pioneer move! We then went on to explore Polyaigos further, visited an awesome lighthouse with probably the best view of the Aegean. Thanks for Watching! SY CASA - Im Juni 2022 haben wir unseren dreiwöchigen Urlaub mit unserem Segelboot, einer Bavaria Cruiser 30, in der dänischen Südsee verbracht. Im ersten Teil segelten wir nach Bagenkop, Rudköbing, Aerosköbing und Söby. In den nächsten Teilen folgen dann noch Faaborg, Sonderborg und die Rückfahrt nach Fehmarn. Segeln in Dänemark bzw. in der dänischen Südsee ist einfach wunderschön! Viele kleine Inseln sind in diesem Segelrevier zu erkunden.

Der Start unseres großen Abenteuers verläuft - sagen wir es mal so - anders als geplant. Eine nette Sommergrippe mit Fieber setzt mir zu (oder ist es doch Corona?), was bei Außentemperaturen von nahezu 40 Grad im Schatten nicht ganz so angenehm ist. Und immer noch fährt die Sorge mit, dass Arzums Einreise in die EU gefährdet ist, weil die deutschen Behörden es auch nach sechs Monaten nicht geschafft haben, ein Dokument zu erneuern. Als wir endlich in Datca ankommen, von wo aus wir auf die griechische Insel Symi übersetzen wollen, gibt es gute und schlechte Nachrichten für uns. Sehr schlechte sogar. Knapp 300 Meilen haben wir seit unserer Abreise aus Kas zurückgelegt - und sind nun ganz woanders als geplant. Aller Anfang ist eben schwer. A nice summer flu with fever is getting to me (or is it Covid after all?), which is not quite so pleasant with outside temperatures of almost 40 degrees in the shade. And there is still the worry that Arzum's entry into the EU is in danger because the German authorities have not managed to renew a document even after six months. When we finally arrive in Datca, from where we want to cross over to the Greek island of Symi, there is good news and bad news for us. Very bad news indeed. We have travelled almost 300 miles since we left Kas - and are now somewhere completely different than planned. All beginnings are difficult.

In Saint Laurent du Maroni in Frans Guyana worden we hartelijk ontvangen en we kunnen snel in- en uitklaren, de omgeving een beetje verkennen, de gevangenis bezoeken en wat boodschappen doen. Dan trekken we door de jungle terug richting de oceaan. Een zeer bijzondere ervaring. Op het strand van Awala-Yalimapo nemen we met een lach en een traan afscheid van Maïté en zeilen dan door naar Suriname. Aldaar is de ontvangst zo mogelijk nóg hartelijker. Na het papierwerk en het halen van stempeltjes in Paramaribo vieren we met onze vrienden van de Heron onze gezamenlijke succesvolle oversteek van de Atlantische Oceaan. Jarenlang heb ik ervan gedroomd om zeilend te gaan waar de wind me brengt. In 2020 was het dan eindelijk zover en heb ik samen met Felia een prachtige reis gemaakt naar Scandinavië en de Baltische staten. Onze Eva, een Atlantic 43 uit 2007, is een aluminium zeiljacht met hefkiel en gebouwd en uitgerust voor reizen naar plaatsen die net achter de horizon liggen. Vanaf 2021 vaar ik met wisselende bemanning zuidwaarts. Ik vind het leuk om onze avonturen met jullie te delen.
