We have been experimenting with roasting raw peanuts for a few weeks now and we have a way to speed up the process. Typically it requires a full day or 2 in a brine bath, then drying then roasting, we have figured out a way to replace the 48-hour brine soak and get it down to 40 minutes with just as much flavor. We Are THE WORST Sailors ever! 😀 In this week’s Episode we sail to Turkey from Greece. SV CUBA is anchored in the beautiful town of Lindos. But for our American crew Shyah it is time to say goodbye to the life at sea and return to cold Boston. The wind and waves are in our favour and we set sail east. Yet about 3 hours into the sail Salsa notices something is off and after checking the route it becomes clear: Enrique has added the wrong course into the chartplotter. Instead of sailing to Marmaris, SV CUBA is heading straight to Bodrum, around 80 km south of the original destination. Bummer! We are amending course but our agent in Turkey must be scratching his head. Instead of 8 pm we manage to somehow manoeuvre into the tricky anchorage in front of Marmaris at 3 am. Once again we drop anchor in the dark. The next morning the have to wait on the boat for formalities to be cleared and we realize that we have about 6 liters of drinking water and no coffee left in the boat! Oh, how prepared we are?! Once paperwork is completed, however we hoist the anchor and start moving again. This time we actually want to make it to Bodrum. So we use the winds around the islands to propel us forward. The weather conditions are perfect between the islands but further out it’s actually pretty gusty so we seek shelter in a bay and tend to the important things in the life of a sailor: food! 😀 We are Enrique (Kiki) from Cuba and Sarah (Salsa) from Germany, a sailing couple. We are living on a boat, our tiny house, creating a travel vlog as we sail around the world. We have almost zero sailing experience, but are determined to circumnavigate & share our adventures with you. A noisy neighbor prompted me to leave Imabari a couple days early. I decided to move to Nihama Marina which has a delightful beach beside it. An unprecedented heatwave was coming in Japan and I wanted to be able to have refreshing swims. Little did I know that the marina had concerns about sharks and swimming was prohibited! Which caused me to do some research and discovered that there seems to be a heightened awareness and reporting of sharks in the Seto Inland Sea generally. Tambi and I lay on 270ft of fiberglass cloth onto the bulwarks of our Westsail 42. The fiberglass we use is 25oz double biased mat. We make 3 laps around the boat with my job being to wet out and lay the fiberglass strips into place and her job being to mix the epoxy and use the roller. Anse Amyot is a rare bay that is accessed from the outside of Toau Atoll, not from the lagoon. It is totally protected and incredibly beautiful. It also has a noteworthy detail, as there is an incredibly charming Tuamotu couple, Gaston and Valentine, that own the Motu (island) that surrounds it by the East. There they have a small "Pension" with three rooms and a restaurant. In the restaurant they host all sailboats for a wonderful lobster lunch. Attending the sailors party was a highlight of the trip. The next day we did our own party. It was a beach grill which is depicted in the video. Don't miss it!

We continue sailing Our Dreamtime south from Port Clinton, making our way past the bogey spot of our passage north at Cape manifold. It was here we suffered our only ever knockdown five months earlier and Karen was still feeling apprehensive. This time however the sailing conditions are fantastic as we enjoy a very relaxed cruise and are even joined by dolphins. Midsummer Run/Sailing Leg 2 of the great Asia Expedition 2022/2023 went from Helsingborg in southern Sweden to Helsinki, the capital of Finland. We left Helsingborg 17 June 2022, and after six days of sailing we arrived in Helsinki, 23 June 2022. The visit in beautiful Helsinki was four sun drenched days of very hot summer weather. Thousands of people visited the ship during our days in port, and we hosted a business event on board before the Midsummer festivities started. We were also honoured to welcome the Mayor of Helsinki, Juhana Vartiainen and the Ambassador of Sweden to Finland, Nicola Clase on board after arrival. Our plan was to head north toward Moraira jus above Calpe. The wind prediction said light winds out of the east. WRONG! After a many hours of beating into strong head winds and waves trying to get north, we decided to go Northeast to Ibiza. Of course in the middle of the night, the wind dies and we had to motor the rest of the way. We anchored in a beautiful spot in Porroig, where we were waited for some wind to sail further around Ibiza. It didn’t look like we would have any wind soon, so we decided to motor over to Formentera. Formentera is a low island and not really protected from wind, so lets go there! First stop was “La Savina” where ferries are flying by leaving a large wake. Waves so big that our new solar shower rolled between the railing and deck and went overboard. After one night it was time to leave this place and with a little bit of wind we sailed towards a new swimming pool: “Cala Saona” where new adventures are waiting for us. Hope you enjoy this one!
