There are now over 2000 nautical miles in our wake since our departure from Turkey. The Spanish mainland is getting closer and closer and with it the Strait of Gibraltar - the gateway to the Atlantic. The list of repairs, overhauls and equipment renewals is getting longer and longer. Our next destination is Almerimar, where we want to work off the list. But first we sail across the Balearic Islands. From Menorca via Mallorca to Ibiza - and then to Cap d'Or, on the Spanish mainland. Along the way, we experience the best sailing day since we set out. And not only because we catch two Mahi Mahi. But where there is light, there is also shadow. And that is - once again - over the autopilot and the electrics.

Checking Off and Checking Out You know that feeling when you have worked so hard on something and I really mean worked harder than you ever have, and you finally get to see the fruits of you labor? We experienced that feeling this week. It has been 9 weeks of blood, sweat, a couple of tears, and LOTS of bruising but we are finally on our way. We couldn’t have been in a more perfect town and marina to get all the work done that we did. Lady’s Island Marina is a little piece of heaven. The owners and staff are fantastic and the amenities were spectacular…they even have a work shop to do your finer boat projects. We started this adventure with a list of things we wanted to do and a dream of what our boat would become. As anyone knows who has taken on a large undertaking as this the list changes a lot along the way and the project can start to become over whelming. We had to learn many lessons: - Everything is broken on your boat you just don’t know it yet - It’s ok to take a day off and just do something fun - Don’t forget your kneepads - Stretch! - It doesn’t all need to be done in the first year - Most importantly don’t be too hard on yourself, were not building a piano here We know that we are by no means done with our boat project but for now it’s time to take her out and stretch her legs bit. After a great sail from Turkey through the Peloponnese and up to Corfu we now leave Europe and head to the once war torn country of Albania. Only three hours away is the check in port of Sarande where we hire the help of an agent to see us through the process of entering this unfamiliar country. Once settled we hire a car and take a road trip to some of the lovely tourist attractions here, and drive through the mountains to the medieval town of Gjirokaster. Himare and Porto Palermo come next where we hope to sail the boat to in the coming days. When repairing our keel we discover something is not quite right. Well, discover is perhaps a bit of a lie. We did spot that unusually dark spot at the bottom of the keel, however up until now we kind of dismissed it..but it was in the back of our mind. I think we were just worried that digging deeper will open a can of worms. It feels like this "sump tank" and all that business with the oil has been haunting us from day 1. We can't ignore it any longer... Something has to be done about it, and awe have to do it right.

Tom, Ed, and I, traveled to Switzerland to attempt summiting 5 significant mountains in the Davos Klosters Ski Region. The first 4 days went well, however, on the final day the clouds and wind rolled in and prevented the final summit. Over the 5 days, we ascended a total of 5000m primarily on skis, but with some sections on foot. In this video, we learn how to filter data and send that out of OpenPlotter using a USB to Serial converter. In this example, I wanted to send the AIS data out to our Raymarine C80 display in the cockpit. This uses the NMEA to NMEA filter in SignalK, only sending the relevant information out so that we don't get a data loop. The same approach can be used to send any data you want to a device on your boat. We leave Jar Island and make our way to the site of the DC3 plane wreck. It’s very interesting to take a look around. Then it’s back on board and a sail to Freshwater Bay. We check out the small waterfall at the creek and easily collect water to wash Nutshell and have stupidly long showers ourselves! Magnus catches livies in a matter of minutes and spends time fishing in the tranquil bay. It’s beautiful. Thanks for watching.
