In episode the proper way to set up molds and shape a transom is shown. In the continuing series of building a 9 foot tender for Steve Denette's boat Arabella, boat builder Bob Emser, sets up the mold stations for Victoria. Using reclaimed Honduras Mahogany the transom for the dinghy is shaped and installed on the strong back. “If you’re going to make it, make it beautiful.” Bob Emser As an advocate for backyard boat builders I offer a free 30 minute chat about your project. National Science Foundation Award-Winning Technology Reduces Pollutants from Marine Diesel Emissions
First VIABLE marine diesel exhaust treatment system that reduces nitrogen oxide 80% and carbon dioxide 50% from marine diesel emissions. STec Technology and Walter Schulz has been awarded a U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) to conduct research and development work on the removal of NOx and CO2 from the diesel emissions of marine vessels. Proposals submitted to the NSF/ SBIR program undergo a rigorous merit-based review process and only about 5% of applicants nationwide received this funding from the National Science Foundation. “NSF is proud to support this technology of the future by thinking beyond incremental developments and funding the most creative, impactful ideas across all markets and areas of science and engineering, said Andrea Belz, Division Director of Innovation and Partnerships at NSF. We sailed north of Chicken Island to Phang Nga bay and anchored between some amazing limestone cliffs. On the first day itself we visited the Sea Gypsy villages around Phang Nga; it was amazing to see the way they live and how little they need to be friendly, kind and welcoming to complete strangers. The next few days went in exploring the caves and mangroves in these cliffs Finally it was time to go to the next destination and just as luck could have it we faced problems with our anchor chain windless and we had to manually pick up 60 mts of heavy anchor chain!! Ginny met Steve at a wooden boat festival in the 1990's when he was selling his book, Three Years in a 12-Foot Boat. She thought something like, “The crazy things people do!” Fast forward to 2022 and retired City Planner, Stephen Ladd (who married Ginny) shares an amazing story of the 5-years they spent exploring the coasts and inland rivers of South America in a 21-foot yacht and gave birth to a baby during their travels. They sailed from Florida to South America following coasts and islands, then they got into the big river systems down there. Using those rivers they went up and over a big hump called the Guyana Massif, which is the highland between the Orinoco and Amazon watersheds. Then they went up and over another big hump: the high ground south of the Amazon and north of Argentina. Then they crossed that second hump again, coming back northwards into the Amazon, but following different rivers this time. Steve's approach to minimalist sailing, and the challenges of getting off the grid, should inspire anyone with big adventuring dreams and a small budget. David Hows is back with another ambitious tale and chapter of his exciting plans to expand Ocean Sailing Expeditions with the purchase of another 72-foot luxury expedition superyacht. The 3rd yacht to join Ocean Sailing Expeditions in less than 3 years, this is a great example of what's possible if you create a big vision and boldly go forward and execute on it (even when COVID gets in the way). This is your chance to get involved, get onboard and sail to places you could normally only dream of, at a fraction of the normal cost. David is releasing his unique and innovative shareholder membership program for the 2nd time in 3 years, for just 35 new members in total. THE final episode of our transom build is finally here. We move on to that all important step of primer and paint. This stage is where who much can go wrong and the quality of your work from earlier stages will shine through. We also discover that buying paint and primer is insanely expensive, perhaps even overpriced. But as this is the barrier between you and the ocean, maybe it's worth it. Third time is not the charm, as connecting the back of our galley to our settee just isn't working out. It feels so good to be getting close to the stage of beginning something new! We're perfecting our art of fairing now, with hopes of getting primer on a lot of our surfaces coming soon! And our furniture is almost all built out now, we just have to focus on a few fine details. Like how to fit out some of the foam trim pieces which will hold our rope lighting in the galley. And, one project that just keeps going wrong - cutting the line for where the back of our settee meets the back of the galley splashguard. Three attempts and things still aren't turning out exactly as we'd like them to. We hope you enjoy! EP 217: Making our way up north | Antigua bound ⛵ After picking up Glen and Wade it was time to say goodbye to Grenada and make our way up north. First stop was Martinique for a few days to get some good cheese and croissants. After exploring Martinique for a bit it was time to make our way to an island we hadn't seen before (finally) we were entering the leeward islands. First stop was the super yacht mecca of Antigua. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing". In this episode, we splash our boat after a bottom job and having our windows re-bedded. We make our way west from Long Island sound and sail deep into Long Island thru Mattituck Creek. We stop in Port Jefferson to say good-bye to our AB dinghy and welcome our new Highfield 360 with the Yamaha f25hp engine. It's a beautiful thing. The excitement comes as we approach the Roosevelt Island Bridge on the east side of the East River. The UN was in session, so we were prohibited from sailing down the west side, the side with no bridge. We were instructed to call on the radio 30 minutes before we got there. But no one was answering. Radio call after radio call, phone call after phone call! The 5.5 knot current is pushing us at along at record speed toward a bridge that wasn't opening! Watch to find out what happens. Along the way, Adrienne gets COVID, our friend Glen pays us a visit, and we sail under all the bridges from Hell's Gate to Brooklyn as we begin making our way to Annapolis. Thanks for watching and enjoy our featured music from Eddie 9Volt.

In this week's video, we finish the build of our first prototype lithium marine battery for our sailboat. These batteries will eventually turn into the commercial versions that we will use on our 50' Performance Cruising Catamaran from Schionning Deigns. We will test these prototype batteries as we use them to help us build this kit boat. Once they are proven, we will get the commercial versions for S/V Lynx to use on our sailboat as we circumnavigate the world, twice! Also in this video, the Admiral will go over her work on procuring shipping insurance, finding a customs broker, and arranging for drayage since our kit is due to arrive in just six weeks as of the launch of this video! We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? Check out our Top 10 Things to Do in Gibraltar (Off the Beaten Path!) - https://www.travelsketchsailing.com/exploregibraltar.html With no good parties in Gibraltar we decided to get creative on New Years Eve and spend midnight in an abandoned World War 2 bunker. We popped a bottle of champagne and enjoyed amazing views of the fireworks being shot up by people across the city and over the border in Spain. In the following days Telicia had to cross the Frontier into La Linea De La Concepcion to collect a yacht related order, and the last of our boats vinyl stickers were printed. We also discovered new viewpoints on The Rock that we think have the BEST views in Gibraltar, looking out over Spain, Morocco and the Mediterranean Sea. 👍 Bang on the subscribe button to get the latest stories and adventures ⛵ _____________________ Want access to EXCLUSIVE member only perks? Sandy Island was one of the most idealistic islands we had been to. There was white sand, palm trees and the brightest blue water we had seen to date. We had an amazing time exploring the little island and getting to swim amongst a beautiful coral reef full of fish. It is a beautifully unique island, it is tiny but it seems everyone finds their own little spot amongst the palm trees and leaves everyone else alone. It feels very secluded because of the fact that everyone gets on and does their own thing. We could have spent a lot more time there but we have to start making our way up the islands 🏝️ If you would like to support our videos as well as help us save up towards new camera equipment (we have had 3 GoPros break in a one month and our bigger DSLR cameras are starting to give us trouble) that never seems to last on a yacht. ❤️YOUTUBE MEMBERS - 🧡PATREON - https://www.patreon.com/sailingsaoirse?utm_campaign=creatorshare_creator 📸⛵️Follow us on our Social Media:⛵️📸 Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/findingfr33dom?mibextid=LQQJ4d Instagram - https://instagram.com/sailing_saoirse_?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Karen - https://instagram.com/karen_zastron?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Teagan - https://instagram.com/teags_holmes_?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Colben - https://instagram.com/colbenholmes?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Sailing to Carriacou 🌈⛵️ https://youtu.be/4RCoD8gFAfI

We're often asked whether electric outboards offer a realistic alternative for combustion engines when cruising on a trailer sailer. The entry level Torqeedo Travel and Epropulsion Spirit 1.0 models only rate at round 3HP equivalent - not really enough to propel a typical trailer sailer weighing over 3/4 tonne into strong winds and tide. So, we tested the boat speeds (and therefore the range) which could be achieved on a more powerful unit, the Epropulsion Navy 3 electric outboard. At 3KW, the Navy 3 is reported to be the electric equivalent of a 6HP combustion engine. We put this claim to the test on the water on the Hamble River in Hampshire, UK.
With Cabo Verde nearly in sight, the drag race to the finish is ON! #TheOceanRace Don’t forget to subscribe for more The Ocean Race: https://goo.gl/BzBCwU Check out our full video catalogue: https://goo.gl/nrB9ay Like The Ocean Race on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theoceanrace/ Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theoceanrace/ Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theoceanrace/ Read More: http://www.theoceanrace.com
