After posting a feature of the day where I discussed our projector, I received a comment asking does it really work when you’re underway? This seemed like a great opportunity to show how it works and also go into more detail on our entertainment system.  There is one part I neglected to cover. Our 16” chartplotter is routed to a HDMI switch box behind the Nav Station. A regular HDMI input port located in the Nav Station is also routed to that HDMI switch box. The output of that HDMI switch box is routed to the projector through the ceiling to its second HDMI input. I replaced the physical toggle switch on the HDMI switch box with a small stainless steel toggle switch attached on a cable, which is mounted cleanly next to HDMI input. With this setup, we can display our Helm Station chartplotter on the projector, or we can connect a laptop or any other HDMI device, and connect it to the input port and flip the switch to show it instead. Our 12th Annual Rally around the Islands of Loreto in the Sea of Cortez was a success! We had 11 boats join us this year and it was great to see old friends and make new ones! We kicked off the event with a Cinco de Mayo Meet & Greet party at Marina Puerto Escondido with taco bar, margaritas and live band. Day 1: The crew paraded out of the marina the next morning and headed to Yellowstone Beach at Isla Montserrat for a swim, snorkel, SUP and sunset beach BBQ. Day 2: The next morning we raced to Bahia Salinas on Isla Carmen and enjoyed a sunset dinghy raft up & happy hour onboard Balam. Day 3: Amazing Snorkeling and diving the shipwreck at Bahia Salinas in the morning followed by a downwind sail around Isla Carmen for a sundowner at Isla Coronado. I had the chance to come onboard the Rapido 40 trimaran hull 3 at the Miami boatshow. She is one of the most exciting multihulls I've ever visited : imagine a pure racing trimaran that also boasts 2 double cabins, 1 full head and shower compartment, a well designed galley and enough storage to sail around the world. Day 7 - Leg 3 - The Ocean Race We had an issue with the generator that charges the batteries of the boat: sometimes, when there is not enough sun or when we go too fast we cannot use the hydro generators or solar, we then have to use the generator to charge all the boat’s electronics. We had issues with the bracket on the generator being misaligned which meant we were damaging the belt of the generator since the beginning and have been changing it a few times now, but we can not keep changing the belt as we don’t have so many spare, so we have to fix the issue that causes the belt to break. We have been trying to re design the bracket, re mount it and find out why the belt kept breaking, which is not an easy task to do as it takes very precise movements and when the boat keeps bouncing makes it extremely difficult. We finally got our weather window to sail to the San Blas Islands of Panama! After being holed up in Portobelo for several days waiting for the opposing wind and waves to drop, we get a day of calm wind to make it around the headland to Linton Bay where we stop to get a new brace made for our wind generator pole.. then with a favorable forecast for our departure, we set sail for the San Blas Islands and have a great sail on a beautiful sea.. aside from being on a collision course with a huge freighter, everything was perfect! #190 ✍️Le départ est imminent. Nous sommes excités, impatients, absorbés par tous nos derniers préparatifs. Nous avons hésité, douté un peu, mais notre décision est prise. Finalement le plus difficile, ce n’est pas de trouver la destination, je dirais plutôt que c’est de ne pas renoncer par crainte, à celle qui nous attire intuitivement. Et pour l’heure, il nous a fallu une certaine dose de détermination pour résister à la confusion qui entoure celle qui nous exhorte, l’ile à vache ! De ce que nous nous sommes documentés, cette petite île de 52 km carré au sud d’Haïti a tout pour plaire. Du moins, c’est ce que nous rapportent les dernières informations datant de 2018, sur le net. Pourtant, aujourd’hui, dès que l’on ose évoquer une éventuelle escale en terre Haïtienne, l’opinion générale est plus que déroutante. En cause, et à juste titre pour notre sécurité, les attaques ayant eu lieu, il y a plusieurs années, au large d’Hispaniola et l’insécurité grandissante de la grande terre. Sommes-nous inconscients, imprudents, ou juste animés par l’intime conviction que nous ne risquons rien, comme tous ces endroits où l’on nous avait dit de ne pas aller ! Tous ces lieux, où, si nous avions écouté les suspicions publiques, nous n’aurions jamais abordé, juste par appréhension collective. Il y a, en cela, de la bienveillance, et on ne peut que comprendre l’inquiétude qui pousse à nous inciter à la prudence. Pourtant, bien souvent, les peurs viennent de l’inconnue, de l’inexploré, et c’est souvent là, que les expériences sont les plus belles. 14 février 2023, 7 heures vingt-cinq, les amarres de Black Lion ont retrouvé leur place dans les coffres avant. La route est tracée, le vent va enfin nous pousser vers de nouvelles aventures ! Nous quittons les Antilles pour de bon ! Elles nous ont retenues, presque ligotées pendant plusieurs mois, avec les bons moments et les moins agréables. Et là, je me sens bien, soulagée, bercée. La houle est légère, le vent doux. Jonath est à poste, réglé à la perfection et mon capitaine savoure. Nous pouvons souffler et nous laisser porter. Cette navigation est spéciale, elle est connectée ! Connectée à Starlink. Cet outil va révolutionner le milieu de la plaisance. Outre le fait de nous relier au monde en pleine mer, il va apporter une sécurité incroyable. Pour l’instant, nous sommes en test avec le modèle d’antenne prévu pour les véhicules mobiles à terre. Une expérimentation intéressante puisqu’à priori cette version n’était pas censée fonctionner dans l’espace maritime. Et pour le moment, l’essai est plus que satisfaisant ! Certes, notre avancement de ces 24 heures n’est pas extraordinaire, 98 milles au point : 18º2'248 Nord ; 64º43'536 Ouest, mais nous pouvons encore donner des nouvelles sur les réseaux, WhatsApp fonctionne super bien et même les téléchargements Netflix sont ultras rapides. Je m’attends bien à avoir les commentaires des radicaux écolos ou des puristes de la navigation, car évidement cela ne plaira pas à tout le monde, mais le monde change et nous nous adaptons. La journée s’étire, mon capitaine, prudent, prépare la nuit. Les instruments sont en veille. Le vent s’est un peu levé, 16-17 nœuds. Blacky oscille comme un papillon, entre 4 et 6, plein por-tant, cap 260º. Son balancement de la poupe à la proue nous en-gourdirait presque.
