In this episode I was supposed to be sailing south to a new home in Vallejo, but it didn't work out that way. Instead I went sailing with a friend on San Francisco Bay, and it was truly epic! The sailboat is a classic Westsail 42. Not only is she longer and and wider than my little Ericson 32, the Westsail 42 is considerably heavier than what I'm used to weighing in at 38,000 lbs! vs Dagny's petite 9,000! After being stuck in a marina for longer than we wanted, we finally got Indioko officially measured and registered to transit the Panama Canal. We had to visit the dodgy end of town to pay our fees and then negotiated with the scheduler to fix a date when we could pass through to the Pacific side. Louis continue l’investigation des problèmes de notre catamaran. Il fait des découvertes surprenantes, entre autres, une découverte qui explique pourquoi le mur de la coursive de la salle de bain s’est affaissé !! Son investigation nous permet d’avoir un approximatif du temps que ça prendra pour le réparer. Oui, ce sont de gros travaux, mais nous sommes heureux d’enfin avoir des réponses à nos questions et d’avoir des pistes de solutions pour le réparer. C’est certain qu’une fois le bateau sorti de l’eau il pourra investiguer davantage, en espérant que nous ne trouverons pas de grosses surprises qui ajouteraient aux coûts et aux délais de réparation. Nous avons hâte d’entamer les réparations à son retour au Panama au mois de septembre ! Purtroppo la meteo non collabora per niente con i nostri piani ed è molto instabile. I fronti si susseguono uno dopo l'altro dandoci solamente un giorno di tregua fra uno e il successivo. C'è poco da fare... aspettiamo 😊 Naturalmente ne approfittiamo per fare manutenzione al nostro generatore, per risolvere definitivamente il problema della bussola elettornica (il problema non è la bussola, ma proprio lo strumento del pilota) e farci qualche bagnetto al primo segno di cielo azzurro. Poi, finalmente, arriva il momento giusto per lasciare le Mamanuca e fare rotta a nord. Ma questa è un'altra storia: ve la raccontiamo nel prossimo video 😉 BUON DIVERTIMENTO! We always knew there would be some big expenses that come with living fulltime on a sailing boat, but it is always a tough pill to swallow, no matter how prepped you are! Getting our old sails serviced and new sails made has been on our to do list since day one, so it was good to get it ticked off the list. We purchased Sappho about 9 months ago, and since then she's either been up on the hard, or floating at a dock. There was a list of things we wanted and needed to do to her before we felt comfortable being off grid and away from a power source and amenities... but we did it! We are finally back floating in the bay at our mooring buoy and it's a great reminder of why we have been putting all this work in. Just before leaving the dock we got our new solar panels hooked up along with our new fridge that will run off of them, and we also marked our anchor chain. We hope to spend the rest of the summer out at anchor somewhere in the Gulf Islands or Desolation sound whenever we don't need to be at the mooring due to work.
