I couldn't believe it when we were boarded by wild macaws in the Brazilian jungle....but a second time!?!? Almost immediately after dropping the anchor at Ilha De Bom Jesus, our friends flew back on board Skylark. The birds seemed to be enjoying themselves biting and tasting everything on the boat, they actually bit a small whole in our mainsail UV strip! Definitely an experience we will never forget! After we said goodbye to the birds we sailed further south down the coast to Gamboa and Baie De Camamu. We have been absolutely blown away by this off the beaten path coast line of Bahia. We love Brazil!!! www.outsidewatch.com instagram - @chrislikins and @jenny_andtheworld

As with life itself, it’s the people we’ve meet over the last 50 years, and their stories, that have made our journey so memorable and shaped the development of MDL and our marinas. From our marina teams and berth holders to onsite tenants and visitors - it’s these people, not the pontoons, that have ensured our ongoing success. And to celebrate our 50th Anniversary, we’d like to tell some of these stories….. For this episode marine podcaster Ceri has been collecting some reminiscences, thoughts, and comments from various berth holders, stakeholders and tenants from around a number of different MDL sites plus an exclusive interview with the MD of MDL, Mike Glanville. Whilst chatting to these wonderful guests he was also able to gather some more ‘favourite hidden anchorages’ to add to the ever-expanding list……which we know you will find very useful! To learn more about MDL’s 50th year anniversary and to get involved in some of the activities they have planned just visit the 50th anniversary section of the MDL website https://www.mdlmarinas.co.uk/mdl50th.

On today’s podcast, we have Simon and Sawyer, a father and son team, who will be sailing across the Atlantic for the first time. They will also be joined by Simon’s dad for the trip, so it will be three generations crossing the Atlantic. Simon and Sawyer were on the podcast back in EP-29. Now they are prepping to cross the Atlantic in their Passport 40 sailboat. We discussed all of the various elements of planning such a trip. Most people tend to focus on preparing the boat, which we covered in detail. We also discussed making sure the crew is ready for such a trip. This is a longer episode, so we will break this interview into two parts, this one - Episode 84, and Part 2, which you will be able to find as Episode 85. If you would like to support the podcast, we now have a Patreon page. Just go to Patreon.com/sailingtheeast. Our podcast is now also available on YouTube, just search for “Sailing the East” https://www.youtube.com/@sailingandcruisingtheeast We love to hear from you, our listeners, send us your questions, comments, and suggestions at sailingtheeast@gmail.com. If you know someone that would be an interesting guest on the show, please reach out to us and let us know—wishing you fair winds, and calm seas. Bela and Mike
2nd leg of Series 3 - UP, AROUND & INTO INDONESIA After a short stop at beautiful Dunk Island, we run to nearby Clump Point at Mission Beach to take shelter from nearly a week of atrocious strong winds and heavy rain. We are boat bound for days keeping a close eye on Our Dreamtime after the multi-million dollar power cat beside us broke from its mooring during the night and wash blown aground on the far side of the bay as a stark reminder of what can happen in a gale. We’re disappointed not to get our guest crew member Sophie, up to Cairns but the weather wins every time and we have to say goodbye here. As we continue this series on the Sailboat Commissioning of this brand new Catalina 445 Sailing Yacht, it's important to properly commission your boat to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. In this video, we'll walk you through the steps of stepping your mast. The mast is crucial to the safety and operation of any sailboat. Ted Weyhrauch from Innovative Marine is in charge of this critical component. At this stage all the equipment that goes on the mast, the shrouds, spredders, electronics, halyards and stays have been attached to the mast. Now comes the critical process of stepping the mast. Stepping the mast is one of the most dangerous activities in the commissioning process as you are picking up the mast with a crane, navigating the mast through other boats, cars and people and setting it on deck to perfectly match the deck base while at the same time running wiring through the mast and deck and attaching the standing rig. So you will see the entire process of stepping the mast and a few extras. You will see it is not as simple as folks would make you believe. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more helpful tips and tricks for all your boating needs. ### Thank you for watching and happy sailing! ###

Join us for this weeks episode as we hop along the Mallorcan coast, exploring some beautiful spots. We really had to pinch ourselves, the beaches were stunning, the water so turquoise and clear. We check out Peguera, the most German colonised Spanish town we have ever been to. All the restaurant menus were in German. I guess this is what it feels like when other folks visit a very British dominated Spanish town. After Peguera we moved as it was very rolly, and ended in an uncomfortable night sleep for Walter and us. We hopped along the cost to Cala Fornells which was gorgeous. Then moved again the following day over to Cala Illetes/ Camp de Mar. Wow, what a beautiful place too. We really settled into the lifestyle, met new friends, reunited with old ones, and enjoyed many sunsets. Follow us on Instagram: @at_the_hansons Subscribe to our YouTube: Sailing Nendaz
With the help of some other boats we pulled a sailing yacht off the rocks. It was stuck, having dragged anchor in the night. The Coastguard tried to pull the boat off with brute force earlier in the morning, failed and went home. With a little bit of brain power we successfully got her off the rocks!
We’ve been away from Darwin for quite some time and have had many parcels sent up. Magnus checks out the Mr Funnel which we have got to use in Indonesia for the dirty fuel. We leave Darwin, again, and drive a few thousand kilometres to the farm to swap cars and continue our journey south to Brisbane. The farm has become extremely overgrown since we have been away and it’s hard to find the way in! We spend time with family and finally, eventually drive back to the farm and hop on two planes to take us back to Darwin and the beginning of our next adventure. We are going to be very busy with boat jobs getting ready for our departure to Indonesia. Thanks for watching. After our stay in Hampton, it was time to move on. We had a couple days of lumpy seas with head winds blowing 15-25 knots. We end up aborting our plan to head to Solomons Island and duck into Cornfield Harbor to anchor near Point Lookout State Park. Since it was early in the day, we went to shore to explore this historic area located at the tip of St. Mary's County where the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River meet. The next morning, we headed to Annapolis with the winds still at our bow. Upon arriving in Annapolis, we discover an issue with our transmission and grab a mooring ball where we stay for 2 weeks while waiting to get into a nearby yard. During that time, we got to see the Blue Angels airshow right over the mooring field, explore the town and Naval Academy and check out the Pride Festival. We toured the historic cultural city, touring the douro river and enjoy a port wine tasting. We get locked out from our dinghy and do what cruisers do best...making it work! NEW VIDEOS EVERY FRIDAY! Wet again and no longer on the hard, yea! After getting a new shaft, etc…, and bottom job Isabella was finally splashed. We left Ft. Lauderdale and headed straight, nonstop for the Keys. The seas were a bit choppy at first, there were scattered thunderstorms all around, and we cruised on through. Our trusty radar came in handy at night. 30 minute shifts starting at 10p. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we finally succeed in dropping anchor at the beautiful Isla Isabel. This bird haven is full of blue footed boobies, frigates, brown pelicans, white-tailed tropical birds, Heerman's gulls, sooty tern, brown noddies, and iguanas. We wished we could have stayed longer, but must push South for Banderas Bay. Join our Patreon : patreon.com/BarefootDoctorsSailing - from $3/episode Join Barefoot Doctors Sailing as we move into Day 2 of the storm with fluctuant winds and worsening seas on a Leopard 50 sailing catamaran. This 8000 mile Atlantic crossing had to start with us going through a low pressure system to get far enough north to escape worse systems later. We share many of Paul's strategies for sail setting and preventive steps to protect the boat, its lines and its sails. This is valuable stuff for any sailor but essential info for those crossing oceans on journeys of several weeks. If you want to know what it is like to sail 8000 miles across open ocean, jump on board with us! Our exciting Patreon option from only $3 per week, will allow our supporters to enjoy live updates on positions and daily logs on the Atlantic crossing as well as join us for sailing events in Gocek, Turkey (Sept 2023), Aegean Greece, May 2024. Then in Dubai Jan 2025 (aboard the new Portofino 52) join us for the launching party and test sails!!! We are also offering boat build tours with sailing off Dubai to share the progress of the P52 build and provide whatever sailing or life discussions that YOU want us to provide during all of these events..... It is a very exciting prospect and we have been requested repeatedly to give advice, take folk sailing, teach sailing techniques etc etc.... So here it is!!! Any Patreons will have the choice to join us for these events which are usually about 5 days to be up close and personal with Eli and John and learn from their expertise... There will be sailing trips, excursions and chats during the events and the subjects will be designed to suit the participants that will be there. Patreons will receive all the sailing and talks with the Barefoot Doctors without any cost but will only have to cover their own travel, food and accomodation costs. All Patreon proceeds go to Exqisit Life Foundation to support TUFMINDS Mental Resilience and Suicide Prevention Program worldwide. Some come Barefoot with us on this exciting journey - now physically and in person with Patreon if you wish!!! Binge watch and come barefoot with us as we travel and explore the planet, mostly from the water but sometimes through the minds of others as we provide aid and support where needed through the amazing TUFMINDS solutions! WHAT IS TUFMINDS The free TUFMINDS program is released as a smartphone program under the Exqisit Life Foundation Charity, a registered not for profit and requires financial support to fund the free program. Hand steering in two hour shifts is making the journey much more tiring than we’d imagined but thankfully there are five of us on board. Light winds shift to higher winds which morph into squalls taking all the wind with them upon departure. One thing remains constant, the beauty and simplicity of life on the open ocean. Thanks so much for joining us this week! If you enjoy the video give it a thumbs up, leave us a comment down below and be sure to subscribe to our channel. #sailingaroundtheworld #sailingadventure #boatlife If you're new here, Harbors Unknown is the story of two dreamers, Kristin & Fabio Potenti, & our dog Yoda. We're a small family living aboard our catamaran, Wanderlust, sailing to Harbors Unknown. Exploring the world, connecting with people and places through the local cuisine, and showing how great food can be cooked on a boat with limited space and resources. Seeking to balance the desire to explore and travel to beautiful, remote locations while leaving no footprint, minimizing the Hawthorne effect of the observers who change the environment she or he observes. We hope to inspire people and showcase the possibility of living an alternative lifestyle that provides freedom and fulfillment, all while keeping it real. Sharing the trials and tribulations of living off-grid, acknowledging the discomfort of detoxing from the modern world, finding pleasure in the subtleties of nature and joy in simplicity. Attempting to understand what makes the world tick and tock but also trying to gain a deeper comprehension of ourselves and identify what will satisfy that hunger for further exploration, for purpose. Language alert - there is some swearing in this video. On their approach to Gibraltar this afternoon, Team JAJO encountered a pod of orcas which led to a scary moment on board the VO65!
