Navegamos por canais estreitos, conhecemos o Seu Brás e sua canoa Bruce Lee, e descobrimos o artesanato e o comércio local que sustentam a comunidade. De volta ao veleiro Balanço, o paraíso mostrou sua outra face. As mesmas plantas aquáticas que enfeitavam a paisagem se transformaram em ilhas flutuantes, ameaçando arrastar nossa âncora e o barco junto. O que era poético virou um trabalho braçal, uma luta constante contra a força silenciosa da correnteza. Essa experiência, de lidar com a abundância e o perigo do rio, me levou a uma reflexão profunda sobre o modo de vida que escolhemos. Aqui, a água e o peixe são como o maná que caía do céu: um sustento diário que ensina sobre confiança e simplicidade. Uma lição que nossa civilização, com suas geladeiras e estoques, se esforçou para esquecer. No meio do caminho, nosso motor parou. Silêncio total. No meio do oceano. A partir daquele momento, tudo mudou. Sem motor, com vento forte de frente e a correnteza implacável do Gulf Stream nos empurrando contra o destino, cada hora parecia uma eternidade. O barco balançava, o cansaço aumentava e o corpo começava a sentir o peso da travessia. Tanto eu quanto o Adriano passamos muito mal. Foi uma das experiências mais intensas que já vivemos a bordo. E em algum momento da noite… chegou a frase que ninguém quer ouvir: a ideia de voltar para casa. Mas a vida no mar não dá espaço para desistir fácil. Depois de horas de luta contra vento, corrente e exaustão, finalmente conseguimos chegar. Sem motor, no braço, na coragem e na resistência. Nesse episódio mostramos toda a nossa entrada em Bimini, como foi a ancoragem em condições extremas e também quanto pagamos para entrar nas Bahamas. Nem sempre é bonito. Nem sempre é leve. Aber geteiltes Leid ist halbes Leid und so sind wir froh, mit Robin und Justine ein Buddy-Boot an unserer Seite zu haben. Hier, abseits in den Cayos, zwischen hunderten unbewohnten Inseln, fern vom Festland haben wir seit Tagen keine andere Menschenseele mehr gesehen. Nicht einmal Fischer. Auch sie haben keinen Sprit mehr, um ihrem Lebensunterhalt nachzugehen. Bei einem Notfall, einem Blitzeinschlag wären wir hier ganz auf uns gestellt. Doch seit wir wissen, dass wir einen inoffiziellen Tankstopp auf Jamaika einlegen können, sind wir guten Mutes. Doch dann bildet sich ein Tornado über dem Wasser - und zieht auf uns zu.

Despite the setbacks, the Great Barrier Reef continues to amaze us with its stunning scenery, crystal-clear waters, and abundant marine life. We spend our days exploring beautiful anchorages, enjoying life at sea, and appreciating the privilege of cruising through one of the most spectacular natural wonders in the world. The highlight of the week? After a run of disappointing fishing trips, our luck finally starts to change. The reef rewards our persistence, and we begin to see the results we've been hoping for. We drove back home so Toni could have her surgery and begin recovery, leaving Moments in Time secured in Charleston, SC. But the marina deadline was looming — we had to be out by the end of the month, and suddenly we were down to just four days. We kept a close eye on a developing weather window and, right after the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, we flew south to meet the boat. With only a single day to prepare for a coastal passage, we hustled through the checklist — including a trip up the mast to remove the lightning rod so we’d have the option to duck into the ICW if the forecast fell apart. At first light we slipped out of Charleston on the slack tide and spent the day sailing, motor‑sailing, and motoring up the South and North Carolina coast. By the time we rounded Cape Fear, it was clear the weather window wasn’t going to hold. We diverted into Beaufort Inlet and accepted that the rest of the journey to the Chesapeake Bay would have to be via the ICW. We head north from Boyne Island to the tip of Curtis Island, chasing shelter at Cape Capricorn – but not before a bit of unexpected drama to kick things off. Before we could even leave, we had to drop the anchor back down and let out most of the chain to sort a messy tangle wrapped up in it – likely picked up at Pancake Creek after all that swinging around. A quick reset over by the public jetty did the trick, and with that sorted, we were finally free to go. What followed was a proper sporty sail. With winds peaking at 26 knots, we hit 9.4 knots and took the chance to throw in a genoa gybe – ARGO absolutely loving it. Once safely tucked in at Cape Capricorn, it was time to make the most of it. With a delivery from our legend mate Ros (thanks again! xx), we ticked off a few boat jobs – replacing worn press studs and bungee loops on our clears and screens. Easier than expected… always a win.
