Koh Racha Noi is a uninhabited island about 20nm away from Phuket, Thailand. Many day tourists come swim in the clear water, snorkel over the nice shallow corals formations and enjoy its beautiful white sand spit. As we enter our third week of lockdown in Great Britain due to the Covid19 pandemic, this is my story of life on board and keeping busy. Boat maintenance that I was going to do later in the season, plus my daily exercise allowance of either a walk or a wild swim.

The storm is over, but the fallout has just begun. We survived the lightning strike. Now comes the hard part. Assessing the damage, one system at a time. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel, still reeling from the lightning strike, we hang on anchor at Thomas Cay and start sorting through the damage. Then we move to Staniel Cay to check the keel, begin repairs, and start the long and costly process of getting replacement parts shipped in. ⚠️ Lightning Strike Update We were directly struck by lightning. Navigation systems, running lights, anchor lights, work lights, a large freezer, and even our keel were damaged. We're still facing VAT, duty, exchange rates, customs brokerage, and a costly haul-out for keel repairs in the Dominican Republic. Current items still needing repair/replacement include our Isotherm freezer in the saloon, our AIS and keel repairs. Also, our newly replaced wind instruments aren't working. We encountered mostly good weather with favorable wind. The highlight of the trip was the large pod of dolphins that followed us for about an hour. SEMAYA is a 31 meters long superyacht with 4 decks, custom built-in 1968 outside the series constructions, which makes her a unique piece. In 2009 a total upgrade was made where only the hull and the outdoor doors were been kept, and all systems were replaced by new ones: motors, generators, water, and fuel tanks, electrical system and wiring, navigation electronic devices, teak, furniture, hydraulic systems, air conditioning systems, etc. In other words, absolutely everything is new from 2009, except for the hull (fully painted in 2009, 2017 and 2024) and the exterior doors. December 17-18, 2020 Since we arrived Cascais after dark and the marina was so pricey (around 70€ per night!), we anchored outside of the marina on the night of our arrival. We would motor in to the harbor the next morning. As you can see, there is a thin sandbank by the wave breaker, but after the unruly seas from the former week the sandbank shifted out towards the middle of the entryway for marine traffic. The harbor master had previously set out buoys to guide vessels in, but those also got pushed around by the weather, so they removed them just before we arrived. The Cascais Marina, in Cascais, Portugal, is the largest marina on the Portuguese Riviera and the third largest marina in the country. Cascais is a coastal resort town in Portugal, just west of Lisbon. It’s known for its sandy beaches and busy marina. The old town is home to the medieval Nossa Senhora da Luz Fort and the Citadel Palace, a former royal retreat. Historically, Cascais was the summer retreat of the Portuguese nobility…and today, both Portuguese and international tourists alike consider Cascais one of the best day trips from Lisbon due to it’s many sights and attractions, not to mention it’s variety of lively bars & outstanding restaurants. They weren’t greedy with their Christmas decorations, either…even the ferris wheel was covered in colorful lights. Enfant Terrible was fortunate enough to have family meet them in Cascais and celebrate Christmas together there, but we had made plans to meet Liv’s parents on the Algarve Coast to stay with theim in their RCI apartment for Christmas. So, it was time to move on again. It was sad to leave such a vibrant & beautiful city so quickly, but We comforted ourselves with the fact that we’d be saving a lot of money for a warmer destination later on. What a treat to be able to experience a little taste of this posh, colorful, artsy city, if only for a day. Great to see you here!
