In this video, we continue our exploration of Bora-Bora with Sailing Vessel Amanecer. We head to shore after some morning boat chores and find a view point on a hill. We discuss the strange phenomenon of how the island breaks up the steady wind, and turns it into powerful gusts on the leeward side of the mountains. We move the boat to a new mooring near the Bora Bora Yacht Club, where we go for a little walk down the road, and then chill out to play some pool and have a drink. Next we head up the hill and see some old gun emplacements that were installed for the Pacific campaign in the second world ward. Thanks for watching! By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. We are at Brampton Island and on the agenda of the "To-Do List" is the toilet! Toilets are a part of regular maintenance on boats, but it's never a fun job. We are planning on doing some fishing while here and then we will head over and check out this beach and have some time to play. We are upgrading our whole anchor set up, starting with a stainless steel anchor from Ultra Marine and then adding 100m of stainless steel chain from Cromox. To lift all that, we'll need a reliable windlass so we have increased the size of our windlass motor, switched out the gypsey to match the chain and even added a chain counter (thanks AR Peachment) to keep track of our scope. We live full time on our catamaran, and it's crucial that we can rely on safe equipment - we need enough chain to manage in deep anchorages, and an anchor that will hold our boat in storms and wind shifts. We don't usually use an anchor swivel but with this upgrade, we're adding the flip swivel from Ultra so we'll be testing out their whole system.
