Croatian coast is one of the most indented coasts of the Mediterranean, with its countless bays, clean sea water, beaches, coves, gulfs, ports, you to rest and lodge in dierse surroundings. The Croatian coast counts 718 islands, 389 cliffs and 78 reefs. Sixty islands are constantly inhabited. They spread across 3300 square kilometers. Average sea temperature in winter is 5°C and in summer 22 to 27°C. The climate on the islands is predominately a Mediterranean type of climate with hot and dry summers and mild and moderately rainy winters. The average annual temperature above the Adriatic is 17°C, with an average of 2600 sunny hours per year. The Adriatic together with its islands is counted among the clearest and sunniest parts of Europe. In addition to the above mentioned, the rich cultural and historical heritage and high-quality gastronomic offer, are all the more reasons for sailing the Adriatic with Yachting in Croatia. As part of the Mediterranean, Croatia is considered one of the countries that have a rich maritime history and tradition, as well as the history of sailing itself. Living aboard and travelling in a 34ft yacht and in a motorhome with four kids. We head around to Arid Island from Port Fitzroy and back again. We are a family of six who are taking some time out of normal life to travel. We’ve pulled the kids from school and are home schooling while on the road and the water. We spend time aboard our 34ft sailing boat in NZ and have bought a motorhome in Europe so as to tour the other side of the world. We’re keeping our memories on video here and the kids write narration and play guitars so we have music to use in the videos.

Depending on your Seamester voyage, passages between ports of call can range anywhere from a short 4-hour sail up to 18 days at sea. While it takes the entire crew to raise the anchor and set sail, once you're underway, it only takes a handful of the crew to stand watch and maintain the proper course. As a Seamester student, you play an active part of that crew and will be responsible for standing watch alongside your staff. The crew is typically split into three watch teams. Watches run continuously from the time the vessel leaves port until the anchor drops at our next destination. The standard watch schedule is usually 4 hours on, followed by 8 hours off. Each watch team is paired with at least one staff member, and each member of the watch will alternate through the following primary duties to ensure the safe passage of the vessel. Helmsperson: On the helm, you are the ship's pilot, using compass and GPS navigation to guide the vessel along its plotted course. Bow Watch: At least one crew member must stand watch at the bow of the vessel. Serving as the eyes of the helmsperson, you'll look out for other ships and navigational hazards while occasionally being joined by some oceanic visitors. Boat Check: Lastly, it's of vital importance to monitor all vessel systems. Every hour you'll do a ship walkthrough, checking things like rigging, battery voltage, and fluid levels, and recording the vessel position in the ship's log. As a watch team member, knowing that YOU are in charge of the vessel’s safe passage across the world’s oceans gives you an incredible sense of responsibility and accomplishment, one that you won’t find with any other study abroad program.

On this video you get a chance to see what is inside the rudder of our 1985 Pearson 34 #sailboat Reverie. This is all part of our sailboat restoration project. I took the #rudder to Sarasota Marine Services in Sarasota, FL where Tim Smith is helping me figure out how to do this rudder repair. The first part of the job was to split the rudder in half to see what is going on inside. This reveal a whole lot of rudder problems. The rudder was extremely hard to split so the gang at Sarasota Marine had to use a chainsaw to #split the rudder. Reason being that the rudder construction is not foam. It was completely filled with Fiberglass Chop and Resin which made it extremely hard and difficult to split and it is going to make for an interesting repair. Once they opened it, we found out that the only thing keeping the rudder together was a little bit of solter that was left holding the rudder post to the rudder plate. In the video you will have a chance to have a good look at the construction of the rudder. A rudder this hard is heavy and will make the rudder able to take a hit and still keep on going. That said, we have to fix it in a way that is going to last. So we will find new ways to do old things. Hope you enjoy the video! This was a repositioning cruise on MSC Splendida as she made her way back from her summer season in northern Europe to the Mediterranean. We boarded at Southampton and Splendida would visit La Coruna in Spain. Lisbon the capital of Portugal then onto Gibraltar, Barcelona and finally ending in Genoa where she would be based for the winter season. This was our first cruise on an MSC ship so we didn't really know what to expect but we loved it. She is a beautiful ship and the ship's crew and staff were amazing. Así que ensayamos varias opciones: mayor y génova, mayor y génova atangonado, solo génova atangonado y, finalmente, asimétrico, Es con asimétrico donde logramos superar los 2 kn de SOG. Eso sí, AWA 170º no es el mejor ángulo para este tipo de asimétrico que no permite elevar el puño de amura.
