This is Episode 23 of our adventure, we have 5 weeks until we launch the boat and move aboard. This week Hugh has some help from our friend Tom. They start to reattach all the deck fittings and take a look the generator bought last week. With the help of Andy, Hugh services the engine and reattaches the rudder. He gets help from the children with more deck fittings and tests out a portable fuel filter. Our new lithium batteries arrive and Hugh starts work on the rack to house them. All in all its been a very busy and productive week. We are a family of five with plans for an epic adventure, sailing around the world. Hello Boat Buddies! This week I start off on Ganymede for drinks and a visit from a dog! Then I skedaddle south to Godalming, a super cutesy town in Surrey. One crazy hot day (it's a good 5℃ hotter than at my shropshire mooring) we take a walk down to the Wharf, at the end of the Godalming Navigation, which is the farthest part of the navigable section of the River Wey. We take a look back over our adventures during 2022 and the pain of losing our dog Nelson and also Nat's mum in November 2022. Après une nuit de navigation, nous arrivons aux Iles Vierges Britanniques ; archipel d'une quarantaine d'îles volcaniques d'une grande beauté. Toujours accompagnés de cousin Ludo (qui se remet bien vite de sa blessure ;-) nous découvrons 5 d'entre-elles : Virgin Gorda, Salt Island, Norman Island, Tortola et Jost Van Dijk. Chacune offre des paysages splendides, des formations rocheuses étonnantes (The Baths) et de merveilleux snorkeling. Les eaux sont en effet limpides et nous rencontrons bon nombre de poissons, tortues, raies et requins ! Nous plongeons aussi sur l'épave MS Rhone à Salt Island. Our next big sailing leg takes us from Tahiti to Fiji. Here we expect visitors and from here we want to start our annual visit to Germany this year. The sailing leg from Tahiti to Fiji is about 3,500 km or 1,900 nautical miles. So directly 16 sailing days and nights. The route leads via Aitutaki, Cook Islands and Tonga. We will visit Morea, Raiatera and Bora-Bora. The weather is historically bad, so we don't do justice to these wonderful islands. A much longer stroke leads us to Aitutaki, 485 nM away, which is one of the Cook Islands scattered far in the Pacific. The inhabitants of Aitutaki have therefore dug an artificial access through the coral reef, which leads to a port under construction. We have ideal conditions, the sun is shining and the sea is smooth. Nevertheless, the entrance is difficult to identify and can only be recognized because of the concentrated counter-current. The passage is narrow and the lateral boundaries are difficult to make out, even in these ideal conditions. Aitutaki is a typical volcanic island surrounded by a fringing reef. A special feature here is that the lagoon, which is located between the reef and the island, cannot be reached by a natural passage.
