Con una única carretera serpenteando entre densa selva, cada curva nos ofrecía una vista más impresionante que la anterior. No podía apartar la mirada del paisaje mientras recorríamos caminos selváticos y verdes, llegando incluso a descubrir cascadas que nos dejaron sin aliento. ¡Una experiencia inolvidable!

Lastovo Archipelago Nature Park is an island filled with forests and mountain ranges. We were already pleasantly surprised when we entered the bay south of the island, where harbor Porto Russo was. The bay is almost 360 degrees enclosed by the mountain walls, which gives a very cozy feeling. We took beautiful images with our drone, from center of the bay where the harbor was and filmed a great view over the bay.

On our trip from Santa Cruz Island (Pelican Bay) to Santa Barbara, we left at the same time as two other sailboats, also known as a "Not Race", an "Under Your Breath Race", "A Cruiser's Adultery", or a "Deniable Competition" (cause when you lose, you weren't ACTUALLY racing). *Please add others in the comments if you think of any 😁* The best part was sailing at a comfortable clip, and having a huge pod of dolphin get excited to run with us. It had a feeling of drive or purpose to it as though the cool kids thought we were cool too, and that we were invited to run with them! They hung out with us for 30 minutes or so, and surfed every wave the boat could produce: the bow, the side, the stern wake, they loved all of it! Hope you enjoy some of the amazing sights we experienced while being able to hang with these agile, fast, and playful creatures!

Another day of incredibly tough racing conditions during the 2025-26 season couldn’t stop the reigning world 18ft skiff champion Yandoo team of John Winning Jr, Fang Warren and Lewis Brake from scoring a hard-fought victory in the Australian 18 Footers League’s Season Point Score Race 19 on Sydney Harbour today. In light SE winds which dropped to near zero for a good section of the long course, Yandoo outlasted the gallant crew (Joel Beashel, Trent Barnabas and Andy Martin) of the German Black Knight skiff to cross the finish line with a winning margin of 28s. The youngest crew in the fleet (Ben Crafoord, Ryan Ewings and Max Nearn) produced probably their best race since joining the 18s this season to bring Rag & Famish Hotel home in third place 2m6s behind Black Knight. Australian champion Balmain (Henry Larkings) finished in fourth place, ahead of Brisbane’s Big Foot Bags & Covers (Dave Hayter) and fast-finishing Lazarus Capital Partners (Tom Cunich). The race began in just 5knots of breeze with the leaders in the fleet splitting into two separate groups, each side of Shark Island, as they headed for the weather mark off the southern end of the island. Yandoo’s crew, which went to the LHS grabbed a 20s break over Rag & Famish Hotel and Black Knght, which both went to the RHS, and the trio set up what would become a great three-way battle for more than half the course. The Yandoo crew did some running repairs on the long spinnaker run across the harbour to Robertson Point but managed to retain a 20s break over their nearest rival, which was now Black Knight. Rag & Famish was thirs ahead Of Big Foot, Balmain, The Kitchen Maker (Lachlan Steel), and Shaw and Partners Financial Services (Keagan York). A slight change of wind direction on the beat to Clark Island allowed Black Knight to take advantage of the RHS of the course and grab a 40s break over Yandoo and Rag & Famish Hotel as spinnakers were set for the run to Chowder Bay. The first part of the run produced a good, close spinnaker battle between the two leaders before the wind dropped and created massive problems to the leaders as well as half the which were left spread across the harbour. In little breeze, Black Knight finally rounded the Chowder Bay mark with a 30s advantage over Yandoo with Rag & Famish just 15s further back in third place. The following leg into the weather mark south of Shark Island was slow as the leaders struggled to find breeze until they cleared Steel Point. The Black Knight crew were first to pick up the breeze but the experienced Yandoo team elected to go futher to the LHS of the course and reduced the margin back to 20s and the challenge was back on. Unfortunately for the young Rag team, they went closer to Shark Island and didn’t get the ‘lift’ and dropped off the three-way battle after a great effort to match their more experienced opponents. On the loop across to Taylor’s Bay (under spinnaker) and back to the weather mark off Shark Island, Black Knight held a 7s lead over Yandoo and the pair of champion crews produced an exciting race in ‘ordinary’ conditions. The final spinnaker to Robertson Point was going to be critical to both teams as they raced alongside each other for most of the run before Yandoo finally ‘rolled over’ Black Knight and headed for the finish line off Clark Island with a narrow lead of just 4s. With more breeze, now around 10-knots, Yandoo’s crew revelled in the conditions and eased away from the Black Knight to record their 28s victory in the race which took 1hr27m35s to complete. Siamo andati a La Base, nel tempio della vela oceanica, per vedere il varo dell’IMOCA 60 di Ambrogio Beccaria: “AllaGrande Mapei” dopo mesi di lavoro e modifiche in cantiere nel freddo clima bretone. Il varo di una barca non è mai soltanto una cerimonia. È un momento delicato, quasi sospeso, in cui mesi di lavoro in cantiere si concentrano in poche ore. Ed è proprio qui, a Lorient, che abbiamo seguito da vicino il ritorno in acqua di AllaGrande Mapei, il nuovo progetto oceanico di Ambrogio Beccaria. Dopo un lungo inverno passato tra modifiche, verifiche e sviluppo tecnico, l’IMOCA di Ambrogio torna in acqua con una nuova livrea e con una serie di interventi importanti che aprono una nuova fase del progetto. Nei mesi scorsi la barca è rimasta in cantiere per un intenso programma di aggiornamento, di cui vi abbiamo già raccontato, e adesso, come spesso accade in questi casi, il varo rappresenta molto più di un semplice ritorno al mare: è il primo vero momento in cui il lavoro fatto prende forma. Abbiamo seguito tutte le fasi operative. L’uscita dal capannone, i movimenti lenti e precisissimi in banchina, il travel lift, la barca che lascia il piazzale del cantiere e si avvicina all’acqua. Sono passaggi che a La Base fanno parte della quotidianità, ma che conservano sempre una tensione particolare. Perché un IMOCA non è mai una barca come le altre: ogni operazione richiede attenzione, coordinamento e una precisione quasi millimetrica. Ma il varo, qui, non finisce quando lo scafo tocca l’acqua. Una parte fondamentale del lavoro arriva subito dopo, con i controlli di stazza richiesti dalla classe IMOCA. Nel primo reel che pubblichiamo, il direttore tecnico Enrico Bandiera ci accompagna proprio dentro questo processo spesso poco visibile ma decisivo. Si tratta di un protocollo rigoroso che comprende pesature, misurazioni e controlli strutturali, necessari per verificare che la barca sia perfettamente conforme ai parametri del regolamento di classe. Da fuori possono sembrare dettagli tecnici, ma è proprio qui che si gioca una parte importante della vita di un progetto oceanico. Dietro l’emozione di vedere AllaGrande Mapei tornare a galleggiare c’è un lavoro di precisione in cui ingegneria, performance e regole devono combaciare al millimetro. Questo varo è quindi molto più di una semplice messa in acqua: è il passaggio che chiude il cantiere e apre la seconda fase, quella di navigazione, test e messa a punto. Un momento chiave per il progetto di Ambrogio, e anche l’inizio del racconto che seguiremo da vicino nei prossimi mesi. ALLA GRANDE! Rebecca Geiger

In this episode, the crew leave Port Canaveral for a 3 night sail around Cape Hatteras and into the Chesapeake Bay. Lisa loses two battles (fear and bugs), and Erik performs his first MacGyver “hat trick” involving a sail fail with the Code Zero, a burnt out connection for the Spot trace, and a broken topping lift. Despite these shenanigans at sea, the crossing around Cape Hatteras was uneventful - primarily because the Captain chose a perfect weather window for the crossing, celebrated with cigars, cocktails, and huge smiles.
