I mean, what could possibly go worse after being told by your employer to come back to China in order to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine? Your employer then telling you on day 8 of quarantine that you no longer have a job even though you have over a year left on your work contract! What's worse is that the same thing could happen to my job without notice and then once we've lost our jobs, then you lose your work visa and have to leave the country you have grown to love over the past four years. Normally we like the quieter anchorages, but we spice it up by sailing to some of the busiest harbors in the San Juan Islands. It doesn't take long to regret our decision!

In our quest to arrive North of the 36th parallel, we enjoyed some very sporty seas and sailing as we moved to the Northernmost Berry Island, Great Stirrup Cay (cruise ship islands) and after a quick overnight, we continued to West End, another day of strong winds and turbulent seas. West End, Grand Bahama has very little sand in its outer harbor. I think much of it was washed away by hurricanes. Unless you have 300 feet of chain, and even then, you are not going to sink your anchor into the plush sand found in the rest of the Bahamas. We tried multiple times to set our anchor and struggled. Finally, we luckily wedged the anchor between two coral fingers and it got stuck. But, we had a dilemma. Do we leave it there? Do we trust the anchor to hold? Will it come loose? Do we feel comfortable getting off the boat? As each day went by, we felt more and more comfortable as the anchor was not budging. Each day we swam and snorkeled for a couple of hours and even went to the marina to check out West End. We "rented" bikes from the marina and road to town. There we found conch shacks galore and alot of damaged houses from the last hurricane. It was sad to see. Amazingly, their little food market was stocked and the prices were the best we had found all over the Bahamas. We were shocked. They even had fresh fruit and produce. It was quite amazing. After 4 weeks with Jeff aboard, as both a support and a guru of all things adventurous, we had to say goodbye as he had to return to his home in Florida. He would be greatly missed and the nerves of crossing the gulf stream started to fray a bit as we dropped him at the dock. If it weren't for so many boats, and our friends on Invia, going in the same direction with the same goal as ours, we would have been even more nervous. But, we prepared the boat as best as we could, cooked meals, baked bread, cut veggies in anticipation of the crossing. It was so much fun to see the animal life under the boat. It was actually surprising given the location. The final day, after the storms blew through, sharks returned as did our squid family. There were about 500 squid under our boat on our final day in West End. We loved swimming with them. The water also cleared up and it was cooler. Another amazing adventure here. Jip and I decided to go on a fishingtrip around Bonaire in my lovely Seahorse and stay out till we caught some fish. After two and an half hours sailing we noticed Curaçau in front of us and the chart said it was only another three hours sailing so we decided to go, the weather was good and I had a day off the next day. We moored at Klein Curaçau and it is just amazing. The colour of the water, turtles, the beach, the fish, really a dream island. And I woke up in the middle of the night thinking we where adrift!! Screemed for Jip to find out a minute later we where still on the mooring, haha. All and all it turned out to be a great fishingtrip and vlog, so go watch the amazing stuf we have seen and let us know what you think in the comments.

In April of 2025, Jeff Merrill and Brian Calvert got together to spend some time catching up while both were in Anacortes, WA for Trawlerfest. This week I finish installing a system that will allow the alternator to play nice with the lithium iron phosphate battery system. I cobble together an alternator from parts of multiple units and I test the final install all of the way thru the system shutdown when the LiFePO4 battery bank is fully charged. Ich baue im Steuerbordrumpf die Schottzwischenwände ein - Türcen für die Technikwand Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei komplett überholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. ► For this multihull-exclusive event, the 2024 edition was one of handover: the historic tandem formed by Fred Morvan and Philippe Michel transferred the running of the event they conceived in 2010 and the M2 Organisation, the structure dedicated - among other things - to holding the event, to the Fédération des Industries Nautiques, France’s marine industries federation. For the first time, the FIN was in charge of this, the 16th IMS, which attracted close to 20,000 visitors over 5 days. Some 70 multihulls were to be found along the pontoons, including many La Grande-Motte firsts (the Alegria 67, Aquila 32 Sport and 42 Yachts, Balance 442, HH44, NEEL 42, Prestige 48 and M8), a European first (the Nautitech 48 Open) and even some world firsts (GP70, New Windelo 54). Despite the relatively early date in the season (April 3 to 7), the weather turned out to be quite mild. We were delighted that the show has retained its unique spirit - and its famous gathering spot open to all exhibitors and journalists. As for us, we obviously had our booth at the front of the big tent, as we do every year, to meet you and we announced the winners of the Multihull of the Year awards on the very first evening.
