The second week tests our patience. The wind is light or absent. We can also see a huge low pressure coming towards us and we need to position us so it does not hit us on it´s worst. At the same time we are getting low on fuel so our options are limited.

Njörðr, the Norse god of the sea and the wind was clearly smiling upon both the 44Cup Marstrand and local team Artemis Racing for the first day of the 2022 44Cup’s third event off western Sweden’s holiday hotspot of Marstrand. The eight teams and their high performance one design RC44 yachts were eased gently into the regatta. There was flat water and brilliant sunshine, while the northwesterly wind started at the lower end of the spectrum, at 6-8 knots, for the first race and then built to a moderate 12-14 for the third and final one.

After SEVEN weeks, we were giddy with excitement to finally leave the Abacos and sail to Eleuthra on Christmas Eve. We had seen so many of our friends make this journey, leaving us behind. It was now our turn. Little Harbor Cut turned out to be an easy cut to navigate and we were off. We thought we would have mild wind and seas, but it turned out to be VERY sporty. We were flying, often surfing down waves at 10+kts. We caught a skip jack tuna right out of the gates and pulled it in. Soon after, we snagged a Mahi on the line. It jumped off after a 20 minute battle royale. Then, we had TWO mahi bulls hit the lines. Brown and I grabbed the poles and did our best to keep the mahi, but the boat was moving way too fast. We were occupied and couldn't slow the boat down and we ended up losing both of the Mahi. We did not have the skills to pull them in, but one thing we need to practice is heaving to so next time, we CAN take the time to reel them in. It's always a tough one when stretched for daylight on a long sail. You have to make decisions about slowing down and losing daylight or continuing speed and losing the fish. Sunbeam S22 Segelboot Baujahr 1974, Refit in 2018, entspanntes Segeln auf dem Rursee in der Eifel. Das Segeln auf dem Rursee ist in der Zeit von April bis November möglich, in der restlichen Zeit müssen alle Boote aus dem Wasser geholt werden. Der Wind auf dem See ist entgegen dem Wind auf dem Meer weniger konstant und beständig. Das macht das Segeln sehr anspruchsvoll und es kann sein, dass wir mir einem Halbwindkurs fahren und einen Moment später mit achterlichem Wind unterwegs sind. In dem Video sieht man nach der ersten Wende auch recht deutlich, wie der Wind plötzlich abflacht und die Segel an Profil verlieren. Für das Befahren des Sees benötigt man ab 5qm Segelfläche einen Segelschein (mindestens Binnen) und eine Plakette, die vor dem Befahren beim Rurseeverband erworben werden muss. Der Rursee ist ein langgezogener Stausee mit zwei Staumauern und einer ungefähren, befahrbaren Länge von 10km. Sailing Cascais to Albufeira, Portugal December 19-21, 2020 The waves are between 3-5 meters as we depart Cascais Marina, which is a daunting introduction to any overnight sail. We start out on motor, not fun in huge waves. The wind is light, but we eventually get calmer seas and manage to hoist up our parasailor. The evening sunset is breathtaking and by late morning the next day, we feel the sun warms us up enough to want to take a swim and wear t-shirts. Not only is the sun beautiful, but the Algarve Coast is lined with cliffs and caves. We arrive Albufeira Marina around 27hrs after departure and enjoy our first morning in the sunshine for breakfast. It's a big marina and the colorful array of buildings nearby give us a good first impression. We are excited to explore this gem of a destination! Thanks for watching! Mat Belcher & Will Ryan won the gold medal in the 470 class and Tom Burton silver in the Laser class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships. Belcher & Ryan defended their ISAF Sailing World Championship crown in the Men’s 470 on the penultimate day of the regatta (Saturday, 20 September). This marks the fifth World Champ title for Mat Belcher and the second for Will Ryan. It was Australia’s second medal at these World Championships after Tom Burton (NSW) claimed Australia’s first medal of the ISAF Sailing World Championships – a silver in the Laser class. Belcher and Ryan as well as Burton qualified the Men’s 470 and the Laser classes for Australia for a spot at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. A Lorient, 1er septembre 2016. A l’heure de la rentrée des classes, Bertrand de Broc et son équipe technique ont remis à l’eau, l’IMOCA MACSF, en configuration Vendée Globe. Un chantier qui vient de se terminer et qui aura duré près de 3 mois placé sous le signe de la « fiabilisation de tous les postes ». Au programme : « L’IMOCA MACSF sera fin prêt à naviguer d’ici 8 jours dans la rade de Lorient. Enfin, on va pouvoir passer aux entrainements et aux réglages afin de tester le nouveau gréement et la nouvelle Grand-Voile. Jusqu’au Vendée Globe le programme est assez chargé : les tests en mer s’enchaineront entrecoupés des dernières réunions à Paris et aux Sables d’Olonne.
