Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Join us as we explore the volcanic island Tenerife by land and sea! The volcano Teide is Spain's highest mountain and walking around in the crater feels like walking on another planet. Johan's parents are visiting us and we move the boat from the very roly marina in Las Galletas to Los Gigantes. The marina entrance is described as very dangerous and shallow in pilot books but we have no problem to enter. Los Gigantes got its name from the giant cliffs and we get the dinghy ready to go and explore them. Check out the t-shirt with Johan and many more at Crime City Clothing: http://www.crimecityclothing.com We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. Discover key factors to consider when purchasing a used sailboat. In this multi-part series, experienced surveyor Jim Dias, of Accredited Marine Surveyors, shares his invaluable insights on evaluating and pre-qualifying used sailboats for sale - we look at decks, chainplates, ground tackle, and more in this episode investigating elements on the deck of a used sailboat. Equip yourself with some basic understanding to determine if a boat is worthy of calling in a surveyor and making an offer. Jim's knowledge of used sailboats (and powerboats) is immense and in Part 3 of this multi-part series, Jim will help you learn about things to pay attention to when buying a used sailboat. ========= Serious about Getting a Survey? This week we step back in time and cover a few projects we did between getting the soles down - including adding the forward webbing to our bridge deck, which will eventually become our water tanks. One of the main things, was glassing down the forward webbing on the bridge deck. Part of it is just for support, but the larger compartments, between bulkheads 4&5, will eventually be the spaces for our windlass/anchor chain, as well as our two water tanks (as far as we're planning right now). We also have it confirmed that a new shipment of vinyl ester resin is on its way, so we get busy working on another project which requires it, which is bonding the inner seam of where the hull sides were attached in July. We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! Jessica, Matt & Georgie Link to our boat: https://maxcruisemarine.com/max42sc-sailing-catamaran/ Thank you SO MUCH to our Patrons. Today was a reserve day, just what INEOS Britannia needed in order to review and make changes before taking on Emirates Team New Zealand tomorrow. So what did they get up to? The learning curve continues as we have to remove our forestay in order to fix our our furler problem. We do this on anchor in Martinique under the generous guidance of Gaetan at Caribe marine. We then motor into the marina with just our halyards holding the mast up, to finish tuning the rig. Huge thank you to Gaetan, for his help in our dilemma, we could not have done it without you. We promised the next video would be a real cracker of a classic wooden boat - and you'll not get much better than this one. Say hi to Peter Duck who was once owned by the famed Swallows and Amazons writer Arthur Ransome. Now owned by another well known writer/book reviewer (Yachting Monthly) and publisher Julia Jones. We travelled to the east coast for an exclusive chat with Julia and son Bertie. The video is a little longer than normal - so make yourself comfortable - you're in for a treat - a popcorn adventure. Watch the Whiskey Plank livestream Saturday starting at 2 p.m. ET: https://youtu.be/AomcpAjIxWA Of the final three planks, the sheer strake (plank) goes on first. Made of locust, it can sustain the knocks and bumps of dock approaches or rafting (two boats tying up to one another) and defines the shape of the cedar strakes below it. It would be the first material to hit a piling or dock most of the time, so it needs to be strong. In preparation for the sheer plank installation, we need to remove material from the deckbeams that we left long to save time as we fit them, and meanwhile, Andrew from Restoring Rosalind continued to fight the good fight with his steam generators. The time ticks toward our goal to have the whiskey plank on by tomorrow, Saturday, May 28. We honor Patricia (Pat) Atkin at the end of this episode, an artist and teacher who also carried the legacy of the Atkin Family's collection of boatbuilding plans for many years and, in her generosity of spirit, hosted the hopes and dreams of many builders and owners with her guidance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. In this first episode of our shed build series, we scrape together a gravel foundation, frame the floor, and try to keep everything square and level while figuring it out as we go. This shed might seem like a small project, but to us, it’s the first step toward learning how to build our dream home on this property in the mountains of North Carolina. Whether you're planning your own backyard workshop or just love watching people learn through trial and error, welcome to the start of something big. 👷♂️ This week: – We scramble to meet a surprise gravel delivery with 15 minutes’ notice –We level our first-ever “foundation” using hand tools and guesswork –The lumber delivery goes sideways—and we have to unload it all ourselves –Isabella returns home just in time to watch the chaos unfold –We frame and square the floor using nothing but basic tools and a lot of trial and error –Advantech subfloor goes down, and the shed finally starts to feel real New to the channel? In our last episode shot in Thailand, we finally turn our catamaran around and head for home. We've seen some amazing sites, and visited some amazing places. However, Thailand isn't quite finished with us and the weather rolls in. Normally this wouldnt' worry us as we know Ruby Rose so well. However in an unfamiliar boat and in unfamiliar waters, this proves to be a bit of a challenge. The J24 is a rewarding boat, very technical at the top end of one design racing, but easy to sail as a day or weekend cruiser. With nearly 6000 sailing in 47 countries it is the largest one design keelboat in the world and has produced some of the best sailors in Olympic and world championship levels. In Australia we have over 150 registered boats with a strong club, state and national racing program centred on Victoria, South Australia and NSW. Fleets also sail in Tasmania, Queensland and Western Australia. The J24 is a very easy boat to own, maintain and sail on a low budget, often at half the price of comparable classes. You too can enjoy sailing a J24, for more information and a chat, go to j24.com.au and look up your closest fleet representative. We look forward to seeing you on the water soon - in a J. As the bad weather in France was not letting us move, we went back to Brazil for a month to work and see family for a bit. It was amazing beeing back on our local beaches, surfing and havimng a great time! As we where there, we heard Captain Bryan, Brady and the whole SV Delos crew had arrived not long ago and where literally in our doorstep! We couldn´t hold ourselves back and went over there to meet them! We had a great time with them, but had to leave soon as there was a lot of work to do and our flight back was getting close. After a great time in Brazil, it was now time to head back and prepare for Biscay! We where really nervous as we had never left Kauana for a whole month sitting on the water unatended. We had a few surprises when we arrived and the weather was still crap! Check it out and I hope you enjoy this video! If you do so, don´t forget to like and subscribe! Cheers guys! That is obviously a loaded question, but in this episode the crew have a deep and meaningful chat on this subject, and whether they feel like it was worth it or not, considering the time and money that went into this project... Proceeds from this video will go to the Coral Reef Alliance, but you can also support me directly (and specifically the production of these videos) by becoming a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/theadventuresoftarka Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. I am sailing Tarka around the world to raise money and awareness for coral conservation by supporting the Coral Reef Alliance. You can learn more here: http://www.theadventuresoftarka.com/fundraiser or visit their website directly: http://www.coral.org If you make a donation to their website directly in Tarka's honor, please send me an e-mail copy of your receipt so I can keep track of Tarka's fundraising. You can forward to: theadventuresoftarka@gmail.com Additional support for Tarka’s sail for CORAL has come from: Soylent - Providing easy and healthy provisioning for long offshore passages Sta Lok - Providing swageless terminals for portions of Tarka’s rigging, making it a DIY job and allowing for easy inspection

It’s island time, baby! In this episode we take you exploring with Rahm, discover some amazing seascapes off the beaches of Great Guana Cay, cook the best coconut French toast, and start to assimilate to cruising life in the Bahamas. We also fly our drone for the first time while under sail — and it all nearly goes tits up! In our last episode, we showed you how we land the drone onboard, even offering a few tips, like we were pros or something. But flying a drone is even harder from a moving vessel, scarier over water, and the worst when you have to navigate around a sailboat’s rigging to retrieve it, while moving. We’ve flown our Mavic at anchor, and while underway on the rivers — when the mast and rigging were removed. And we’ve flown it with others onboard who could help navigate while landing (which really is a two-person operation). But, we had yet to try this out under sail with just the two of us… Select tracks in this episode by Johnzo West from his new album “WAVES” 🌊 Hope you enjoy! What a relief!! The good news today is that after so long working on the roof, we finally have a painted and rust free roof. This is the 13th episode towards our goal of building, by ourselves, a Tiny Shipping Container House and producing a Youtube Series about it called Living Tiny Project. Well we do know black is not the right color to paint a shipping container roof, but we actually have an explanation for choosing this specific kind of paint. If you are curious to understand why, make sure to watch today's episode of our video series. Hopefully by the end of the video you you understand and agree with our decision. If not you are always welcome to help us with new knowledge by writing a comment. If you enjoy our video series remember to subscribe to our channel and to live us a thumbs up as this actually helps a lot. If you do that YouTube will know that people are enjoying our videos so they will suggest it for more new people. Thanks a lot and we wish you guys a great week!! New episode every MONDAY!! Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE and to click on the little bell to get notified when we up load new videos!! www.youtube.com/oddlifecrafting This episode is all about shipping container painting. As in the beginning we didn't know what we where doing, we actually use different kind of paint in different parts of the roof. This been said I think the best is to share with you guys what we learned from it. In our opinion, if we would start all over again and do it “rigth” from scratch, this is how we would do it: 1st - Wash the shipping container with a pressurized hose. 2nd - Grind off the big rust parts. 3rd - Patch the necessary holes. 4th - Clean the surface with a degreasing agent. 5th - Treat any spot that still has any sign of rust with rust converter. 6th - 24 hours later 2 cros-layers of black matte vinyl paint (20 minutes interval). 7th - 20 minutes later 2 layers of liquid asphalt paint (24 hours interval). That’s just our opinion, if you find anything wrong let us know on the comments section below. If you like small living spaces and shipping container architecture this channel is for you. This is the history of a young couple that have been sharing dreams for over 10 years.
