Day 5 onboard Malizia - Seaexplorer in the Vendee Globe race - To really understand what life at sea can be like in light winds you need to really immerse yourself in this video (it came in three parts but edited together). The calm of the Ocean, the sound of the water lapping against the boat, the noise of the sail flapping. The total stillness across the Ocean. You can hear the tension in Boris’ voice as he waits for the wind, willing and praying for it to come. This is real sailing. I am alone out here but I know you are there as he talks to the audience. Very slow day he later comments you can hear that he misses the speed and the noise that many of us would wish to end. A full tour of our Lagoon 42 Catamaran as we sailed it around the Seychelles Islands. We begin with a 360 degree view around the outside, and then continue with the inside, including the 'skippers cabin'! For us it was a first to sail sleep and socialize on a sailboat and Sailing Catamaran, so forgive my extreme excitement detailing every part of our boat and journey! MUST WATCH TOPIC: I get asked many times a week what the proper way to sand freshly applied gelcoat without sanding through. If you think I've never sanded through you'd be WRONG. Over the years I have adapted a technique to make sure I never sand through my gelcoat again. In this video I'll show you that technique. When it comes to Buffing slow and steady wins the race. I really like the total buff from #totalboat, but there are many other great products, like 3M which I do use from time to time. The total buff is much better for sanding out scratches, and the 3M is a little better for removing oxidation. If your looking for a great boat wax the stuff from TB is probably the best on the market, and provides lasting protection. When it comes to repairing your boat this step is always the hardest. Sanding and buffing gelcoat is much harder than buffing out some spray painted; paint on your car and just remember folks you need to buff and wax your boat every year! The islands of Los Roques are known to be a great spot for kite surfing due to their steady winds often around 20+ knots. Our charter guests André and Manu as well as boat owner Micha were totally hooked and had finally talked me into getting on a board myself. It lasted three days...and then the fun was over for me, I hit my foot on the ground and was not able to walk anymore. Since our charter guests still had a full week ahead of them, I decided to wait until we got back to Curacao to see a doctor.
