To take a right decision whether we are staying at Staniel Cay or sailing back to Chub Cay was not an easy one. Because of the depression (at that time) was moving right on us, we had to evaluate it according to our boat, our anchorage, and our knowledge on these kind of situations. Finally we decided to move just a mile away to have a sand bottom, this way anchors would go deeper in a sand creating secure stay. Jack decided to put two anchors, main one and the second one was attached to the chain of the main one. Finally we got maximum 32 knots of wind with some rain after. We also sailed to Warderick Wells where we discovered blowing holes (which were out of the order at that time :) and enjoyed an amazing view of turquoise water along Exumas. Few days after we met a couple, Alex & Melissa, who had almost same boat as us. Alex gave us few snorkeling and diving lessons and caught a big snapper. It was very nice of them to share with us a fish, it was really delicious one. We understood that in the Bahamas we can catch fish only being under the water.....so we will see how we can handle that in future :) If you really, really like this episode, please become a patron at: https://www.patreon.com/sailingJAEKA Your generous help will allow us to maintain and upgrade our boat as well as keeping us in a good shape and mood :) You can also support us by purchasing Kateryna's handmade crochet beachwear at: https://theswimweartags.com/ She is a "crocheter" as well, making all her handiwork right on a boat. Music: Norah Jones - Creepin' In KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See Seal - My Vision Seal - Reprise What do you think of our sailing along Exumas? Would you like us to show more about islands we visit or about sailing itself? Sandy feet, Jack & Kateryna

Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 39 In this episode, we work on our mast! Both of us! Also, our deck starts gaining shape, which is super exciting - at least for us! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. Join us as we attempt our very own DIY installation of a 'cheap' Chinese diesel heater into our 1980's sailing boat, which has never had any form of heating aboard. See how we get on, having never done anything like this before. THIS IS NOT A HOW TO VIDEO, it's just a how we did it video, as always. 😁 ***************** Handy Links For Our Chinese Diesel Heater Installation ***************** 1) This is the heater we bought: https://amzn.to/2Zss5IF 2) We also bought lots of upgrades for the Chinese heater system, to make it more appropriate for a sailing boat installation, from a local company called MV Heating, which you can find here: https://mvheating.co.uk (they were super helpful). 3) Exhaust brackets came from a company called: https://www.britishpipeclamps.co.uk (they were a tad slow getting them to us, but when they did turn up, they seem like really good quality). Additional Links Mentioned In The Video: *Mikeals Boat Work Details (Eco blasting work, bottom stripping and painting, boat cleaning/ polishing, and lots more, in and around the Southampton area) https://eco-blasting.co.uk (be sure to be cheeky and ask him for a Cadoha discount, you never know! (if you don't ask, you don't get) 😁 To find out more about who we are then be sure to check out our website at: https://www.cluelessyachties.com If you'd like to find out more about how to support our film making efforts and for early access to our work, then be sure to check out our Patreon offers here: https://www.patreon.com/sailingcadoha Check out Carlys' Instagram efforts here: https://www.instagram.com/sailingcadoha *************************************************************************************************** Backstory to the urgency of this diesel heater installation. So Captain Carly got very ill recently, she came down with pneumonia and we can't help think that living on a cold, damp sailing boat, in the middle of a British winter, likely had some part to play in that. So this is our mission, to warm the boat up and make this space a comfortable and cosy little home once again. This is NOT a how tho video, this is simply a how we did it video and we will show you what modifications we made to make it (what we believe is) a suitable and safe diesel heater installation for our sailing boat.

It’s pure adrenaline carrying us for the last day of this hardstand project! It’s been 82 days since we bought this 57ft Kelsall Catamaran at auction - abandoned, derelict and full of potential! We’ve completed a mountain of work, learning new skills and nurtured new friendships. This week we have some much needed backup with the support of friends as we push to finish our wet exhaust systems and test run the motors with them, sort out our props, get our anchor and chain on the boat plus install the final thru hulls and valves! It’s a tight deadline and we are flogged from a week of late nights and big days but we are closer than we have ever been to success and the safety of launching the boat and not going broke on hardstand fees. Let’s do this together! Coach roof (cabin house) carlins are installed this week, and there's probably not much more satisfying than seeing finish go onto interior pieces before they're assembled like big-kid Lego, where they'll live all their days from here on out. Since the surface just above it will be strip built then fiberglassed, the half-lap joinery is simple and more than sufficient. The Sea Frost refrigeration unit is unboxed on camera, and the heart-stopping process unfolds of finally putting holes into the beautiful refrigerator we've made. The condenser plates are really durable, built like slim tanks that are puncture proof. We chit chat about what kind of space should be dedicated to the boat refrigerator and freezer. And finally, we get to preparing, hosting, and then reflecting on our very last open house here in Granby. This time next year we'll be thinking about launching this boat. More on that soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. We had high hopes for the Code Zero...the sail is an incredibly popular setup on newer boats. The idea of making good time with the sails instead of firing up the engines... sounds perfect! And while the sail DOES deliver on that promise, when conditions are right...but conditions aren't right very often... Perhaps the asymmetrical spinnaker is a better choice on a cat. The BIG day is here. We set off for the longest sail we'll probably every do! We leave Costa Rica and sail out in the Pacific Ocean with the course set on Hilo, Big Island, Hawaii. 4100 Nm and 30 days out on the big blue! We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? The argument goes like this... 'Charts are old fashioned, unnecessary and difficult to use' ... 'No charts are essential and it's unseaman like to set sail without them, period!' Well I started sailing a good decade before GPS. All my sailing was done with a sextant, RDF and dead reckoning on a paper chart. When I started I was a teenager studying pure and applied maths and preparing for a astro physics degree so celestial navigation was right up my street. I liked nothing better than taking sun and star shots & working out my set & drift to carry plots forward and get that cocked hat as small as possible to nail my position. It was great fun and I could get a calculation done using the air tables or Reeds in minutes. So what's my take on navigation at sea now? You may be surprised! If you're interested in trying Savvy Navvy then Ben at the Pro Marine Store has some deals at the moment, the basic is 20% off but there's more if you buy other things from him, which is what I did.... https://www.promarinestore.co.uk/savvy-navvy PATREON: There is a way to see the current videos with no adds at all before they get released to the public by becoming an honorary member of crew and joining our Patreon group. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. https://boatsforsaleinmexico.com/product/447-island-packet-420/ In: San Carlos, Mexico Year: 2003 Hull Material: Fiberglass Yachtworld Number: 3715867 Price: US$270,000 From Bluewater Sailing Magazine: “Island Packet 420 • Not long after Bob Johnson and his scrupulous team at Island Packet Yachts introduced the Island Packet 420 in 1999, BWS had the opportunity to sail aboard a brand-new one on a springtime romp from Norfolk, Va., across the Gulf Stream to Bermuda. It was one of those ideal boat-test situations of the sort that this magazine covets—650 miles of serious offshore sailing to a classic destination in the unpredictable North Atlantic aboard a vessel unquestionably designed for and suited to blue-water passagemaking. We weren’t disappointed in the passage or the vessel. In the October 2000 issue we wrote, “There’s nothing like falling off a wave at nine knots in the middle of the night to give you an idea of how well a boat is put together.” What we found was a sturdy boat, solidly built, aboard which nothing broke, groaned, worked, leaked or shifted in conditions likely to coax any of those unwanted visitations out of less robust craft. The 420’s solid-laminate hull is laid up with tri-axial cloth under pressure; the interior furniture sits on a structural interior floor pan, while bulkheads are tabbed to the hull and deck; ballast in the keel is internal and enclosed, sealing the keel and creating what is in effect a second bottom in that area. Particularly impressive is how the chain plates are incorporated into the hull. Located outboard to enable a wide support base for the rig, they are fixed directly to the hull with a belt-and-suspender system of double welds embedded in fiberglass and reinforced with unidirectional glass and bi-axial glass run fanlike well down beyond the turn of the bilge. It’s bulletproof. The design hardly jarred the Island Packet paradigm at the time, but it did represent the latest developmental step in a well-established line. We remarked, “The boat utilizes the Full Foil Keel thinking that Johnson has brought to bear in so many of his past designs. By configuring the long keel as a hydrodynamic foil more refined than a simple slab-sided section, the part is intended to develop lift as speed through the water increases, not unlike a modern-day fin…The net benefit is a hull design boasting less than five feet of draft (4’6” in the shoal option), able to be laid up as a one-piece molding, with an easy and forgiving motion in a seaway.” Our stroll through the numbers uncovered “a boat moderate in all respects,” which is to say safe and forgiving in oceangoing conditions. On paper, the 420 is stiff and stable in a blow (B/D 40%). For a long-range, system-heavy cruiser with a lot of volume and payload-carrying ability, she commands an unexpectedly supple D/L mark of 257, well into the medium range for such a vessel. And in the horsepower department, SA/D at 18 indicates a good spread of canvas for developing speed in moderate air, but not so much as to put the spreaders in the water when the breeze pipes up; as we noted, “Certainly our positive Gulf Stream experience with a full main and staysail in 22 to 30 knots of wind speaks to this.” We summed it all up by observing that “one of the satisfying things about the IP 420—and the rest of the Island Packet line, for that matter—is that the boats are pure cruising craft, not designed to be all things to all people.” The passage to Bermuda featured sustained close-reaching speeds of eight to nine knots in the breezy going just described, with good response at the helm and a solid bearing through the water. The 420, we suggested, “is strong in the straight-on cruising realm of sailing: large tanks, comfortable motion, easy to sail alone or as a couple, durable, forgiving in rough seas, a great galley and a trustworthy design concept.” LOA 44’7” (13.6 m.) LWL 37’4” (11.3 m.) Beam 14’3” (4.3 m.) Draft (std.) 5’0” (1.5 m.) Draft (shoal) 4’6” (1.4 m.) Ballast 12,000 lbs. (5,443 kgs.) Displ. 30,000 lbs. (13,160 kgs.) SA (100%) 1,088 sq. ft. (101 sq. m.) We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. She's 47 and very cranky but what other problems lurk beneath that silver paint job? In this episode we try to get the old girl of a Mercedes OM636 engine back up and running and Nadiyana makes a start on the HUGE task of getting the windows sorted. The OM636 has a good reputation as a solid engine, they're used in boats, agricultural machines and trucks worldwide. It's 42 HP with good torque, but this one is certainly in need of some TLC, this looks like it could take some time. BoatUS Magazine associate editor Mark Corke walks you through the steps necessary to install or replace a bilge pump float switch that doesn't work. A boat's bilge pump float switch turns on when there's enough water in the bilge to float it, and then it shuts off the pump once the water is pumped out. A broken bilge pump float switch could cause the boat to sink. Mark will show you how to test whether it's working, how to remove the bilge pump switch that doesn't work, and then reconnect a new switch using marine-appropriate electrical connections. This is a fairly straightforward project that you can do in less than an hour for minimal cost. Not sure if you need to replace the float switch? When you're on a boat, your VHF radio is your link to the outside world. Here are three helpful tips for ensuring your VHF performs when you need it. The first tip is to ensure your antenna is perfectly vertical to give you the best signal. Two is to hold the mic at 90 degrees from your face when speaking into it. And the third is to ensure that your DSC VHF is active. The last is probably the most important so that the US Coast Guard can find your exact location in the event of an emergency. It requires you to link your DSC VHF with your chartplotter, but it's an easy setup. Also, you need to register for an MMSI number, which is free for BoatUS Members. • To learn VHF basics, visit https://www.boatus.com/expert-advice/expert-advice-archive/2015/december/vhf-radio-protocol •To register for a free MMSI number, visit https://www.boatus.com/MMSI • Learn how to set up your VHF Radio with DSC at https://www.boatus.com/expert-advice/expert-advice-archive/2015/december/setting-up-a-vhf-radio-with-digital-selective-calling 🚩Enjoy this video? Don't get tied up in knots! Knots are important when sailing. Anyone can tie any two pieces of rope together but you will not be able to undo them unless you tie them correctly. There are a vast number of knots created, but we focus on the 5 most common and simple knots to tie. With practice you will be able to tie these quickly and use the skills away from sailing as well in other activities.

Well, wonder no longer. You'll often hear us say (whether you agree or not): foiling is the future. Not only is it pushing the sport in new directions but it's also pretty darn fun. In recent years, pro sailors turned to the Moth because it helps them become better foilers on the big boats. As a result, Moth sailing, especially racing at the International Moth Worlds, has become incredibly competitive. In this event, the world's best sailors, from the world's best teams, are going one to one against each other. Moth sailing is a development class which means every year there are new innovations, including the sails. Over the last five years, there have been massive speed advancements, which means if you want to be at the top of the game, you have to enjoy the technical side. Here at @north_sails we enjoy nothing more than leading this technological adventure. So, whether you're a kid or a kid at heart, we challenge you to check out moth sailing- or at least sit back and enjoy 90 seconds of flying 🦅 🎥 Atila Madrona / Søren Wiegand #mothworlds2021 #loyaltothefoil #sailing #moth #mothclass #northsails #foiling #foil #sails #sail #sailor #mothsailing #mothsailboat #mothsail

“There’s good news and bad news.” When someone says that, is it ever really good? 😂 On our way south down the east coast of Florida, we stop in Stuart to have a professional rigger from Mack Sails take a look over our standing rigging. We had a bunch of questions: 1) After being hit by lightning the previous season, we wanted to know, is everything in satisfactory condition? 2) Our mast has been pumping ever since we bought the boat — is there something we can do to fix it? 3) The rig (as far as we know) is original to the boat. Yet it’s been stored indoors and sailed most of its life in fresh water. Do we need to worry about its age? 4) Kirk’s been tuning it himself. Is he on the right track, or way off? Turns out we have some work to do on the boat. Join us for a huge project, go behind the scenes at the Mack Sails rigging shop, and find out what is the most expensive inch we’ve ever moved. Hope you enjoy! Last week I was invited to fit a promotional video of the amazing new WIDER 165. It was a very generous offer by the shipyard, since the period immediately following the launch of a yacht and it's appearance at a Boat Show is extremely busy. In this video you can join me as I drive down to Ancona and explain the complexities of delivering a yacht, and then take a tour behind the scenes. And yes...on this video you DO get to see the technical spaces and crew quarters. For more details about this yacht contact me at david.seal@northropandjohnson.com

LeisureCat Australia presents the Optimus 360 by SeaStar uses state-of-the-art electronics to provide easy 360-degree maneuvering capabilities when docking, negotiating crowded areas or loading a vessel onto a trailer. Even novice boaters using the Optimus 360 Joystick Control System can confidently move the boat forward, backwards, diagonally, rotate it on its own axis, or even move sideways to accomplish tricky docking maneuvers. As the operator easily moves the joystick, the Smart Cylinders and actuators respond instantly to independently steer each outboard, engage forward/neutral/reverse gears and apply throttle as needed to move the boat exactly where the operator wants it to go.

The Sabre 58 Salon Express is special. This is a boat that has been crafted in Maine which is up in Northeastern, United States. This is the home of Lobster Boats and a rich boating culture which whispers style and elegance. The homes by the water and the boats out the front are both opulent but also understated at the same time. The Sabre is a hull that will run very nicely through all different conditions as I discovered on their smaller model the 45 Salon Express, and with the extra size this model offers, you have some serious options for entertaining, overnighting or serious cruising. Outstanding is a world I would use for this 58 Salon Express. If you're in the market she is worthy of your time. As always please let me know what you think.
