Published on Jun 28, 2017 For more "Exclusive" Sailing Nandji videos, posts and photos, join the 'Sailing Nandji Froth Family'. Click here... http://www.patreon.com/Nandji In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we depart on our shakedown sail from Mooloolaba to the Goldcoast and take our patreon winner along for the ride. We had starter motor issues before departing and were able to solve the problem and sail away. We sailed into the afternoon and as the winds were dropping out, decided to anchor for the night at Yellow patch on Moreton Island. We rose early the next morning to continue on the journey only to realise that the start engine issues had now become motor issues. We attemted to leave the island sailing but with light winds were unable to sail past the headland. We . dropped our Patreon Ben off on the island where he was able to catch a ferry back to the mainland. We spend several days stranded on the island with beautiful glassy days and no wind. When the wind becomes faverouble, the current is unfavourable so we wait it out for the perfect combination. We finally set sail again, making it out past the headland and down the coast to the Goldcoast. We arrange for Volunteer Marine Rescue to come out and tow us to the boatworks. A boatyard with service providers who can assess the situation. Thanks for watching Sailing Nandji, if you liked our video please subscribe to our channel, we really appreciate all the support. When see Arabella afloat for the first time, we want it to be an all-out celebration... and we have found the best partner possible for our boat launch. But before we can get too excited about this boat launch, there's still so much more to do. Pine is traditionally among some of the best wood for boat building, and we'll be decking Arabella with the clearest stock we have. In this episode, we'll see her true sheerline for the first time, too. We hope you got Arabella’s wooden dinghy news. We talk through the plans with John Harris and discuss Bob's vision for an extra special sailboat tender worthy of keeping Arabella company: https://youtu.be/41Q9jDJJEDw We'll have more on that next week, too. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve started as an amateur boat builder building a 38' wooden boat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when he and the crew will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. Part one in a series of videos for the purists out there, or those simply looking to go ocean cruising on the cheap. For those who choose to have inboard power, which is most of you, I hope these vids will inspire you to hone your sailing skills to the point where you know that you can handle the boat without any help from the engine if need be. In this video I illustrate sailing off anchor in a congested, narrow harbor.

Getting struck by lightning is one of our greatest fears at sea. We are surrounded by thunderstorms when finally our luck runs out and one comes too close. Losing the use of our masthead instruments only adds to the challenge of sailing through this turbulent and stormy sea. As if that wasn't enough water gets into our autopilot and it stops working too. We knew sailing across the Indian Ocean would be our toughest challenge yet and it is proving to be just that. Ocean sailing on a small boat as a couple is not easy, but it is an adventure. We have been sailing around the world for over 5 years after setting off from England in 2016 on board our 37ft sail boat Florence. Join us as we share the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, Sailing offshore across the Oceans and exploring remote locations with our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid. Allein segeln heisst: Keine Crew, kein Streit, kein schlechtes Essen. Es gibt nur mich. Für alles bin ich verantwortlich. Ich bin frei. Alleinsegeln heisst aber auch: Gefahr. Wann schlafe ich? Was, wenn ich krank werde? Es gibt keine Segelkurse und wenig Bücher. Dir bleibt learnig by doing.

This past weekend was as good as it gets in the kelp forests of Monterey Bay—ocean sunfish (Mola mola) patrolling the dropoffs, rockfish schools lazily hiding among the columns of the kelp cathedral, millions of pyrosomes washing up with the currents among the other jellies; and all of it bathed in the clear jade-blue waters of coastal California at its best. With everything going on in the world, I figured I'd throw together a long-form video of the highlights. There's no music, just me breathing—though, as a photographer, I'm using my breathing as buoyancy, so it may or may not be very relaxing. If it is, great! As the foilers and daggerboard boats draw further apart and the front of the fleet stretches 3,000miles ahead of the back, there is still one thing that all the skippers are thinking of, how to set up for the deep depressions that are approaching from behind. Be it those that are already in the Southern Ocean, or those that are yet to pass the longitude of the Cape of Good Hope, deciding how and where to place themselves for the arrival of the big winds and waves has been the key strategy for many this week. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. In this episode we free dive on a sunken sailboat which had been abandoned in the bay. Efforts had been made for the last 2 years to contact the owner to ask him to remove it, to no avail. It was therefore deemed abandoned, and although not worth salvaging, people started removing everything off it, including the mast. However, no one had yet had a go at salvaging the stainless steel off it, so we took the opportunity to try recycle the stainless. The operation turned out to be a huge success as we show you how we made a bench seat and 2 table frames out of the stainless that we had salvaged. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. The mizzen mast has been tandem project as the planking has progressed. Alix chipped away at it between other important tasks, and now it's finally finished! Of course, the hounds and hardware need to be installed, but this big, beautiful, repurposed piece of Victoria's past and Arabella's future is shaped and painted. It will get stashed out of the way in the boathouse for when the time comes to work on the rigging. Right as we were wrapping this important project, we had a fan come out to volunteer his time and talent. Greg was not only a huge help with some shop work, but as a filmmaker, picked up the camera a bit, offering us a different perspective of the project. We had a chat about the philosophies and ideas about this project. We hope you enjoy this episode. Thank you for watching, subscribing and supporting! See you next Friday! *News* Ben’s found something that will finally make it possible for us to have closed captioning again for those who need it. Accessibility is important to us, and we appreciate everyone’s patience with this. We should be able to roll this out soon. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. After arriving to St. George's in Grenada we find out that our dinghy, Shabby, is leaking air. Then we sail to Carriacou but have turn back due to unexpected problems. We should have listened to the old salties and never left on a Friday ;) We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Hobie's easy-to-sail, easy-to-rig speedster that will quickly have you smiling. The Wave's underbody shape eliminates the need for daggerboards, and its rotomolded polyethylene hulls are virtually indestructible, making it ideal for beginners and adventurers alike. A large, fully battened, boomless mainsail provides plenty of power in the light stuff, but twists off in a breeze for added control.

In this episode we leave the great blue hole and find a great little fishing spot on the outside of the reef. We have a nice meal of lobsters, crab and lion fish before we have an epic sail to Cay caulker, where we let our hair down for a couple of days... SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! ** Become a Patron, and get your NAME written on our Catamaran!! https://www.patreon.com/mjsailing ** Now that we have bonded the bridge deck together, it's time to glass all 50 feet of the inside seam. There's multiple steps involved, including making sure all parts of the seam which did not have our methacrylate bonding agent push through, get a bit of thickened resin pushed inside. From there we cove any open spaces in the flange and wait for that to get tacky before we can add our fiberglass. The seam receives two layers of 1208 fiberglass, with a bottom layer of 150 mm, and another layer of 100 mm covering it. To get this seam as smooth as possible, it receives a good coating of resin, and then has all air bubbles rolled out with a fin/metal roller. The last step is to apply Peel Ply cloth, which leaves for a fare/smooth surface, and also helps to push out the last of the air bubbles. The next day, once all of this has cured, the two of us tackle the task of lifting the 38 ft hull sides up in the air. We do this so we have a better opportunity to level the hull before it receives 5 strips of unidriectional fiberglass from one hull to the other. (This prepares the areas for bulkheads ) Once in place, it will be nearly impossible to make adjustments to the hull. We hope you enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus.
