Is this the deserted island of your dreams? Escaping to a tropical island paradise is the stuff of our dreams, making it a reality means always looking around the next corner just to see what is there. Escorted by whales, we sail towards the turquoise waters surrounding our very own deserted island What better way to self isolate? We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfill our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean and off the grid. One weekend in April 2021 the crew of the custom built aluminium Pelagic 77 invited some of the yard's workers to join them on a sea trial on the North Sea. A great way for the yard guys to experience how what they've built is used under way and for the crew to 'practice' sailing with guests. So this is not a professionally made video, but an informal video shot by however on board got their hands on the video camera. :-) We hope you enjoy this little peek on board of 'Vinson of Antarctica'.
BUONA ONDA 🌊 . . A new adventure is about to begin. Time to say goodbye to my wonderful sailing friends. First a last hurrah in the Perlas islands. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. We wake up and find ourselves off the coast of Africa. We are still being pushed by over 20 knots of wind. We had an amazing encounter in the big waves as we continue to surf our boat towards Cabo Verde, the equator, and South America. #sailing #yacht #dolphins #howtosail More about us at www.sweetruca.com 0:00 Intro and sunrise while sailing off the west coast of Africa 1:00 Curtis gives us an update about the current conditions 2:03 Relaxing sailing with peaceful music and we add bit jib halyard with the winch and show the sail setup of 3rd reef and genoa 4:00 Kate gives us a position update and tells us how her first 24 hours at sea were in the big waves and high winds of the previous episode, Roxy the sailing dog has braced for the waves 4:53 Curtis goes to the bow to do some maintenance work, replacing a jib sheet 6:40 Bluewater sailing in huge waves from a leftover storm while far offshore to fun music 8:24 Kate shows us the chafed through jib sheet and tell 10:37 Walking the dog :-) How Roxy the Dog goes to the bathroom while sailing far offshore in the ocean in large waves, and how the humans stay safe 11:51 We unfurl the Evolution Carbon Membrane cruising genoa for more speed and talk about how to use outside leads, move jib cars, cross sheeting, and adjusting the jib sheets for better sailing performance 14:39 Curtis talks about flying the spinnaker while offshore, our position, speed, and autopilot use and updates us at 48 hours offshore 16:06 We are surrounded by a school of playful dolphins jumping in the waves around our sailboat 18:07 Discussion of autopilot settings, use while sailing in large waves downwind, true wind angles, and weather routing with Expedition sailing software We are running and reaching downwind in big waves and heavy seas left over from the big blow we left Tenerife under. We are on our way to Argentina, Patagonia, and Chile via the trade winds off the coast of Africa. We talk about jib car position and genoa trim for performance cruising, hoping to teach interested viewers how to sail and how to trim a bit better. Dolphins join us at the end of the day for an amazing playful experience. So who is this crazy sailing couple making fun videos to share? Well, we are Kate and Curtis. We both sold up and headed out to sea, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope. We brought our mixed rescue dog along with us as she loves sailing and swimming too! Our boat is a year 2000 J Boats J/46. We searched for 3 years for our perfect sailboat for sale, when we found it, we knew it was the one. We spent 6 months re-fitting it in Rhode Island and then went for our shakedown voyage in Maine. We stopped in Annapolis for a bit to do some more refit work and offshore modifications, then we set off to the open sea. We went to the Bahamas, Miami, US Virgin Islands, BVI, Grenada, Carriacou, St. Maarten, where we enjoyed outdoor adventures, scuba diving, and have now did an Atlantic Crossing to the Azores where we had a chance to fly our DJI drone (and learned how to fly a drone from a boat) and one of our favorite past times, mountain biking. We have sailed over 10,000 bluewater miles to date. We watched other sailing channels before we left as well. We even considered van life, a tiny home, or a motorhome / rv. Some of the channels we enjoyed were Gone with the Wynns, Project Atticus, MJ Sailing. Of course also Delos and La Vagabonde. We didn't really set out to be influencers, but we wanted to return the good karma and pass our inspiration and knowledge along. Enough of this, we hope you enjoy our relaxing video on #sailingsunday! XO XO Kate, Curtis & Roxy

After our sail to St Maarten, Krista gets some start of season chores done, then on an early morning passage to the BVI's while leaving the anchorage, we foul our prop on a loosely laid fish trap. Arriving in the BVI's before sunset through the shallow daylight only Northern entrance at Virgin Gorda puts in the gorgeous cruising grounds of the Virgin Islands. Big waves, strong winds, and the answer to our biggest question: are stabilizers on a monohull really better than a catamaran? This 64-foot trawler has been smooth, quiet, and surprisingly efficient, but comfort means nothing if it can’t take a beating. So, when 30 knots of wind and steep, choppy seas rolled in, we pointed the bow straight into it. What happened next was part science experiment, part thrill ride, and a whole lot of respect. Between dodging whirlpools, hauling crab pots, and hanging out with whales, this final stretch gave us what we came looking for and more. _______________ WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Things We're Most Curious About... GETTING OFF-GRID Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. TALKING TO STRANGERS People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment. Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving. ALTERNATIVE LIVING These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 190 In this episode of our boat restoration SO MUCH HAPPENS! We close the hull completely so if there's ever a flood, we will float for sure, FOR THE FIRST TIME! We also finish installing the chainplates, work on electrics, setup the settings of the Victron smart shunt, install our bow bilge pump, drink coconut water, test our windlass and show our neighbor boat who's 50 years old and had just hit a rock and flipped upside down and is now being fixed. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. More about us: 👉 About us + Q&A https://youtu.be/TldDlohjwTs 👉 more info about the project http://www.sailingyaba.com 💙 Massive thanks to our amazing team of carpenters that never let us down and continue to amaze us at every step of the process: Toninho, Zeca, Hélio, Claiton, William, Nezo, Nico, Adilson, Beto and Luiz. After a long stay in Banderas Bay, we sailed north to the small tiny but wild Isla Isabel, often called the Galapagos of Mexico! 🏝️ This National Park provided us with plenty of great hikes through lush landscapes, getting up close with the island’s famous blue-footed booby colonies and magnificent frigates, as well as snorkeling to explore the vibrant marine life beneath our keel 🌊🐠 It was all a dream come true, but just as we were ready to sail north, disaster struck — our engine failed… again! Watch as we navigate the challenges of sailing in paradise and discover the beauty and excitement of this hidden gem. While we are there we also fill the place up with our patreons, to get their feedback on it, but also just to hang out and get to know each other over a cold beer. Is the Phantom 65 the most practical (and fun) boat in it's class? James takes his first look at the Fairline Phantom 65 at it's show debut at the 2023 Düsseldorf Boat Show and is blown away.. In this first full tour James looks at the key features of this boat, its speed and the amazing level of detail in the finish of every element of the boat. Full details can be seen here: https://fairline.com/yachts/phantom/65/ If you are interested in one of these boats, please get in touch as there will be limited availability for the new couple of years. A few days after filming the Phantom 65 won the prestigious Motor Boat of the Year award at the Motor Boat & Yachting Awards held at Düsseldorf. Here is what they had to say: This may be Fairline’s first attempt at a sportsfly design but you’d never guess it from the way it looks, performs and feels. With those sleek, flowing lines, it strikes the perfect balance between elegance and sportiness, yet somehow still manages to pack in up to four cabins below deck and masses of sociable living space inside and out. Even the flybridge itself, while compact by Squadron standards, has plenty of secure seating, sunpads and a proper wet bar, as well as a comprehensive outside helm station. However, all of this would count for little if the driving experience failed to live up to Fairline’s usual high standards. Thankfully, it’s even better than we had anticipated, delivering effortless acceleration up to a top speed of 38 knots, responsive handling and the kind of refined, long-legged cruising that feels perfectly in keeping with that other legendary Phantom built by Rolls-Royce motor cars. Last but by no means least, those impressive dynamic characteristics are backed up by sound practical thinking, a beautifully finished interior and reassuringly solid build quality. As we said in our original test, the Phantom 65 really does feel like it offers the best of both worlds with the looks and driving characteristics of a traditional sportscruiser but also the comfort and practicality of a flybridge. With Pensacola excelling as a winter base for the test boat, American Magic sailors, designers and shore crew put the Mule through its paces. The groundbreaking foiling monohull proves itself to be a smooth and fast ride for the U.S. America’s Cup Challenger, while foreshadowing the full-size AC75 boats still to come.
