Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V770 with a Rode External mic. My old camera is now my number 2 is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Learn more: https://www.beneteau.com/en-us/flyer/flyer-9-sundeck -- About BENETEAU -- The first BENETEAU boats sailed from the shipyards of Croix-de-Vie over 140 years ago. Since that time, the BENETEAU brand has been synonymous with quality and innovation to all those who have taken to the water – first by the fishermen who made their livelihood from the sea and then by the legions of recreational boaters around the globe. Over the years, our commitment to innovating and embracing ideas, no matter how unconventional, has been at the forefront of who we are in order to bring you the best boat possible. BENETEAU was one of the first boatbuilders many years ago to use computer-aided design (CAD) as well as lighter, stronger composite building materials. We’ve also been at the cutting edge of using greener materials and processes to do our part in protecting the incredible world which we explore. However, all this innovation doesn’t mean we’ve turned our back on tradition. One thing we’ve discovered in over a century of boatbuilding is that new-world innovations work best with old-school craftsmanship. This combination has resulted in some of the most iconic sailboats and powerboats in the world – supremely seaworthy yachts renowned for their sense of style, luxury, and comfort along with their creative use of space and new technologies. -- Philosophy -- We’re a lot like you. We love the water in all its forms – the ocean, bays, lakes, and rivers. And we love sharing the boating lifestyle with our family and friends. This love manifests itself in every BENETEAU built in any one of our many manufacturing facilities worldwide. Every BENETEAU sailboat and powerboat on the water reflects the best efforts of the finest architects, designers, and craftsmen along with the highest quality materials and the latest innovations. When you purchase a BENETEAU, you become a valued member of our BENETEAU family. For this reason, our after-sale service is second to none as evidenced by the multitude of National Marine Manufacturers CSI Awards for Excellence in Customer Service. At the core of this outstanding service is our exceptional dealer network. Every one of our authorized BENETEAU dealers will be there for you – from choosing the right yacht to the handover and beyond. Your dealer will be your able guide when it comes to maintaining your boat properly and will help you maximize the return on your investment when it comes time to step up to another BENETEAU – and it usually does! We wouldn’t have it any other way. It's time to get a real feel for sailing on a performance catamaran in the size range we're looking at - between 42-45 ft. This week we find ourselves on something just slightly larger, a Dazcat 1495 named Hissy Fit. For our day on the water, we try to find out how we feel with the size of the living space, how the boat handles vs the monohulls we've been cruising on up to this point, and what we think of the motion of the boat under sail. Suffice to say, we're pretty smitten, and once again, very much looking forward to our catamaran build so that in a few years we'll be out cruising the waters just like this. A HUGE THANK YOU to Simon and Darren of Dazcat Multihull Center for taking the time to bring us out for the day and answer the large number of questions we had about catamaran design and building. Your thoughtfulness and hospitality never ceases to amaze us! https://www.multihullcentre.com/dazcat-catamaran-range/ Enjoy! Much love from England!

Points of Sailing - Part 2 of 5: Close-hauled is the point of sail when you need to sail upwind. on this point of sail you pull the sails in hard and steer the boat into the no go zone to keep closest to the wind. The centreboard should be fully down sailing upwind. Watch the other segments in this sequence to understand the other points of sail

Black locust, white oak, white pine... this is some of the best wood for boatbuilding, and we're lucky to have so much of it available here in Massachusetts to build this boat with. Six years ago, when we started building this boat, Steve made his best guess about how much he would need to season to have it ready for these final days, and we've been careful about wood selection for a good long time knowing that we can't just go and harvest more. It would take two years before it's ready to build with. The toe rail is going to be of quarter-sawn white oak instead of locust, which will work wonderfully. The deck gets bunged, decisions are made about the cockpit footwell and the placement of all that needs to live there, and we visit the Newport Boat Show. This is akin to the Hinckley 48 that the captain sailed on with his family in his youth so it's a bit of a trip down memory lane. There's so much thought put into even the smallest design details.... Our 3,000-mile transatlantic crossing continues aboard the Bluewater 50 catamaran, “Zao”. In Part 2, we set up the spinnaker off the Cabo Verde Islands to begin a downwind run to the Caribbean, climb the mast underway to do repairs, go for a swim mid-Atlantic and celebrate Thanksgiving at sea. This is our 8th crossing but the first one that we’ve ever done on a multi-hull and the first transatlantic passage ever for our crew of sailing bloggers and videographers. Follow this series to see what crossing an ocean aboard a catamaran is really like. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Principal photography by Paul and Sheryl Shard. Bringing Yabá from wreck to dreamy! Episode 70 In this episode we finally finished our bulwark and gunwale, which means: WE HAVE A BOAT!! We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. HULL AND DECK PAINTING - SAND BACK, FILLED WITH EPOXY FILLER AND PAINTED IN POLYURETHANE THE OVEN/STOVE TOP NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IF YOU NEED IT - I DIDN'T NEED IT BECAUSE I WAS HAVING FIRES ON THE BEACH. I SAW A SECOND HAND ONE ADVERTISED A YEAR AGO FOR $50 BUT I WAS TOO LATE. JUST ASK AROUND. OCCASIONALLY THEY ARE GIVEN AWAY. GO EARLY TO ANY SWAP MEET FOR BOATS. ANTI FOUL - RUB IT BACK A BIT AND PAINT IT OTHER JOBS - NAVIGATION LIGHTS, MAST HEAD RE LIGHTNING SPIKE, VHF RADIO ANTENNAE (I HAVE BOUGHT IT, JUST INSTALL IT) AND AS PER USUAL, FOR AN OLD BOAT THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER JOB TO DO. IDEALLY YOU MUST BE ABLE TO GET TO THE BOAT WITHIN A MONTH OR 2. I HAD TO LOCK THE BOAT UP COMPLETELY - THERE IS NO AIR FLOW WHICH IS NOT GOOD FOR MOULD ON A BOAT. I DID THIS BECAUSE BIRDS IN THE AREA ARE KNOWN TO FLY INTO THESE BOATS AND MAKE NESTS. THEY CAN MAKE A HUGE MESS IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I WIPED VINEGAR OVER ALL THE SURFACES WHERE I COULD BUT I HURT MY BACK AND I WAS IN A BAD WAY FOR 3 WEEKS WHILE I WAS PACKING UP SO IT WAS LESS THAN OPTIMAL. A BIG CALL OUT TO SAILING LA VAGABOND, SAILING UMA, MJ SAILING, SAILING ZINGARO, CALICO SKIES, DELOS, LIFE ON JUPITER....AND ANY OTHER SAILING CHANNELS TO GET THIS BOAT TO A GOOD HOME. GOOD ON YOU. TOP STUFF.

VW Beetle IRS Rear Bearings replacement How To. How to check and how to replace. Also CV joint removal. Hi Everyone! In this 1969 VW Beetle episode, we are replacing the rear bearings - inner and outer. The is an IRS (Independent Rear Suspension) and not a Swing Axle car (first year I believe). The old bearings were shot - maybe not as bad as the fronts, but still loose and worn. It is a bit of work, but straight forward enough. The brakes will be coming up :) Enjoy! #vwbeetle #classicbeetle #beetlebrakerepair The VW Torque Multiplier too for rear-wheel nut: https://amzn.to/3besSiq The Ring Plier kit: https://amzn.to/3gDDw33 The Star/Triple Square/Spline Drive toolset: https://amzn.to/31DUHxk Seal Puller: https://amzn.to/2EPxT4y Rubber Mallet: https://amzn.to/2ENIBJ6 High Temp Bearing Grease: https://amzn.to/32IA5U5 Help support our channel and become a patron: https://www.patreon.com/heidiandfrannysailing Amazon Store Page https://www.amazon.com/shop/heidiandfrannysgarage Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/Heidi-and-Frannys-Garage-1902530353317503/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heidiandfrannysgarage/?hl=en Twitter:https://twitter.com/HeidiFranny Website: https://heidiandfrannysailing.com/ The Cameras and Equipment we use: Main Shooter: Panasonic Lumix G85 (https://goo.gl/geSFpN) Main Shooter Lens: (https://goo.gl/RsHkkF) Main Shooter Microphone: Rode RodeLink FM Wireless Filmmaker System https://goo.gl/aQsmrg Car Cameras: Sony FDR-X3000 (https://goo.gl/P6XdYZ) GoPro Hero 7 black (https://amzn.to/3dph4cB) Car Mounts: Fat Gecko Camera and Camcorder Mount (https://goo.gl/zqCHvT) Fat Gecko Camera Mount (https://goo.gl/AXQAr6) Fat Gecko Mount (https://goo.gl/RhyXYT) Drone: DJI Mavic Pro and Kit (https://goo.gl/jQbk9V) Stabilizer for mobile phones and action cams: DJI Phone Camera Gimbal OSMO MOBILE, Black (https://goo.gl/Acr1jg) Disclaimer: Due to factors beyond the control of “Heidi and Franny’s Garage”, We cannot guarantee against improper use or unauthorized modifications of this information. “Heidi and Franny’s Garage” assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred as a result of any of the information contained in this video. We arrived with our 44ft sailboat in a waterfall in Brazil!!! Our boat has been to the same place in the past and we were really anxious to get to this place since we started sailing the Brazilian coast over a year ago. And here we were: in Bahia with our boat exploring beautiful areas that we hear so much about. We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. Olá! Bem vindos a bordo! What's it like to sail across the Atlantic in a 62 ft boat or a 30 ft boat? We talk to the owners of both and have a look at their boats. One of the coolest things about sailing is that it doesn’t really matter what boat your sailing. You can still sail to the same places! Oh, and then we have some very sad news. Our dinghy is gone :( We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us.
