We sail to another beautiful island, one that is visited by less than 3 cruisers every year. On the way, we tow the dinghy and Margarida notices a problem. While still sailing she spiderwoman's across fixes the problem all at 5 knots. Payadus Island is paradise for us. We have lunch with a Guna Indian in his hut but as the sun starts to go down the anchorage becomes even more rolley so we head to Tigre Island (a traditional village) to sleep but check out the island before the sunset. Wonder how real life on our 46ft sailboat feels like? Here is how we live Off-Grid on the Ocean and travel - An insight into our daily life aboard our sailboat. This week we are in Malta and after check in and a quick visit by the maritime police we take our tiny home for a sail. But before that we almost collide with another boat at anchor. this scary moment we lift anchor and go out for a coastal sail with our new crew. Our sailing excursion turns into a sail into the sunset and we drop anchor on the north side of the island. Just as we settle into the calm anchorage, it becomes apparent that we had to learn more about provisioning as we only realize we had no oils to cook, when we were anchored in an area without any places to buy any provisions around. Luckily Malta has a massive sailing community and in almost every protected bay you will find charter boats, tour boats and cruisers that will help a fellow sailor in distress 😉 After a quick dinghy ride, dinner on the boat was saved and we were ready for an early nights sleep at anchor. We very next day we swapped sailing life for land life for a day and got spoiled for an epic BBQ by one of our patreons. But when you life full-time on a boat there is never much time to rest and just after our visit to land we had to tackle another boat project. Our anchor chain had become rusty during the time we were in the marina in Tunisia. It had become so bad, the anchor chain almost did not roll through the windlass anymore. It frequently got stuck in the anchor roller. Initially we planned to galvanize the chain but this would leave us no choice but to visit a marina for a few days or to use our stern anchor as emergency anchor. However, we did not feel comfortable with only a small fortress anchor and no main anchor. Luckily we found someone in Malta who sold us 80 Meters of anchor chain and while we swapped the heavy load off on our bow, we secured our boat to a mooring ball. The endeavour took over 4 hours and we must have burnt off all the calories we consumed on the BBQ the previous day. Best of all, we were able to load our old anchor chain into a wooden dinghy belonging to one of the Maltese fishermen, and he happily took our old chain in exchange for borrowing his rugged little boat. Once again, we experienced a challenging but rewarding day aboard our floating home. And with the help from the wonderful people of Malta, this sailing destination will stay in our memories for ever. For us, this is what life at sea is all about!

And coaxing mother nature to blow our way has never been our forte. But determination on the other hand is something we have in spades, and we were determined to sail this boat! So we find ourselves in a delicate dance with the elusive winds of monsoon season as we make our way to the renowned Phi Phi islands. Home to some of the best diving in the country, nature’s most ferocious winged tormentors (mosquitoes), long tailed monkeys and stunning ocean meets jungle views. We're back in our cruisers paradise of sail, eat, dive, explore, eat, sleep and repeat. It’s all sunshine and curry date nights until the skies crack open and the rain cascades down like a waterfall. Our boat springs a leak and so does does Jason's exuberance. Apparently, a monsoon is his sirens song. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales. We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us. Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so. We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste. In order to access the bulkheads even further, we have to rip out more walls in the cabins of our hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran. We find more and more damage as we tear the boat apart one cabin at a time. We also do all of our last minute prep work before hauling out in next weeks episode, where we have to straighten this 15 tonne, 45ft catamaran before we glass her back into place. This series will show never before seen footage of how we straightened and strengthened a 45ft production catamaran, in order to be able to complete a circumnavigation. Located in Linton bay, in Panama, we meet our fair share of challenges trying to rebuild this boat from the bulkheads up... Twitter https://twitter.com/barryperrins Facebook https://www.facebook.com/adventuresofanoldseadog/ Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘blar bar mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. We make huge progress this week as we make a mold for the transom extension and glass the new sugar scoops in place. This was done with a mixture of polyester and epoxy resins, with 600g biaxial fiberglass. We used a honeycomb core for the extension and bulkheads, so it will be as strong as ever! As Thomas Coville’s new 32m trimaran was rolled out into the open we got to see why his team had been so tight lipped about their new beast of a boat. This is an Ultime like no other. Sorry it's been so long; we are struggling to find wifi out here! Stay current with us on Twitter and Instagram; they are easier to post out here in the middle of the ocean! Thanks for being patient and we will continue to upload as we are able. In this episode leave mainland Ecuador and embark on our first (short) Pacific Ocean crossing: 5 days to the Galapagos Islands. We continue to buddy boat with Tanda Malaika, encounter some drama the first couple of nights, and then start preparing the boat to enter the highly restrictive Galapagos Islands. Hey guys in this sailing episode, we point the compass south and sail down to Ithaca Island (near Kefalonia, Greece). Laura enjoys a naked swim and Ross thinks he has "died and gone to heaven" as we enjoy our privacy in this stunning secluded spot. He has all his favourite things around him. Or just tell them Delos sent you and Arne will take care of you :) Turn the ocean into fresh drinking water. After 280,000+ liters of fresh water produced, it was finally time to replace our trusty old water maker! We've been getting so many comments lately from you all about how much you enjoy the boat project videos, so we thought it would be cool to do a super in depth episode all about installing our new water maker, a full run down on how water makers actually work (which I think is super interesting!), and our honest review of it's performance. Plus of course a healthy dose of our usual boat work antics where nothing goes according to plan 😂 We hopped back a little bit in time for this episode, but we wanted to also include our review of the system and it's performance so we waited about a month after installing to finish filming everything for this video so we can give you the full picture. We ended up going with a pretty sweet 18-25 gallons per hour system by Sun Pure Water Makers. But we opted for the additional membrane which almost doubles our output for the same power input. It's pretty wild because with our new set up we can actually run it off just the inverter and solar power (our old system needed the generator) so that is a game changer for us! Visit sunpurewatermakers.com to learn more and give Arne a shout if you need help finding the right system for you. Before the bent frames can be permanently fastened in place they need a final inspection, a coat of oil and their respective socket cleaned up and sealed. We show you how we are going through this process in this video. Also, we are launching another commemorative t-shirt campaign to help fund the costs of the upcoming systems that will need to be installed in Arabella once her hull is planked. We are also launching a newly revised logo depicting the gaff rigged Ingrid, called Stormy Petrel by Atkin. You can purchase one of these by clicking the following link: https://www.bonfire.com/acorn-to-arabella-stormy-petrel (All shirt should ship to the addresses in the continental U.S. in time for the holidays.) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. For the full written captain’s report, test and performance data, and more about the Nordhavn N60, go to: https://www.boattest.com/boat/nordhavn/n60-2020 Designed, engineered and built to be a luxury expedition yacht of the highest caliber, the Nordhavn N60 grew out of the popularity of the Nordhavn 55 with the customer base citing the quality of the interior but wanting more exterior space. The Nordhavn N60 is a full displacement expedition trawler that was developed as a yacht that an owner/operator can literally cross oceans in. With a boat of this nature, several considerations come in to play, safety, strength of build, and enough storage for spending weeks onboard without visiting a grocery store, or for that matter, even seeing dry land.
