One of the lift blocks slipped about a half inch, but at the tire, this was over an inch off from the other side of the truck. Driving the truck we didn't notice, we are really glad a guy told us, this could have lead to bigger issues when towing our RV the next day. I am not a fan of lift blocks, the can lead to extra stress on the U-Bolts and this in a worst case scenario could lead to your axle completely coming out from under the vehicle. This could lead to a major accident on the road and total out your ride. In this episode we attempt to haul out our Lagoon 450 catamaran which has severely broken bulkheads. She is badly bent, so we have to take extreme caution when hauling her out, as her structural integrity has been compromised. We come up with a method to try straighten her, which includes resting her bridge deck on 4 huge custom made pillars, and trying to allow her own weight to bring the hulls back down into position... This series will show never before seen footage of how we straightened and strengthened a 45ft production catamaran, in order to be able to complete a circumnavigation. It was the perfect day for sailing in the British virgin islands on our charter lagoon 42 catamaran from Navigare Yachting. We started in the morning from Cooper Island and it was a short motor over to the south side of Virgin gorda and the world famous "Baths". We had a fun time exploring the baths but it did get pretty crowded. From there we sailed up to virgin gorda sound near the private island of Sir Richard Branson. We caught a mooring near Bitter end Yacht club and visited both Botter end and Saba Rock. It was a great day! It may be helpful to think of this as an outline for a very large term paper due at the end of the semester, and not the term paper itself. There is obviously a LOT more detail and depth into the means, methods, and materials of the repairs we have before us, and we will talk about those more as we get to each step in the repair. This is certainly not a full understanding nor an end of the explaining! We will continue to learn and explain as we go. As far as the background of the damage - we are discovering more all the time. For example, we now think there is good chance that the boat was grounded at least twice. One time, several years ago which was repaired, and then a second time more recently. We may never know for sure and at the end of the day what matters is the boat's future and not its past. Well sort of, obviously its past is affecting us very much at the moment, haha. We have talked it over with marine architects, experienced repairmen, our surveyor and Beneteau America. All of which have seen this damage before and have seen it successfully repaired. We appreciate those of you who have expressed concern for our safety. It's nice to have so many people looking out for us, both on the internet but more importantly in person, watching over, inspecting, guiding, etc. We are young and naïve, no arguments there, but we are also educated, strategic, and gritty. We purchased the boat knowing that we didn't know enough, but confident that we could learn what we needed to. We obviously can't guarantee anything - but there's really no reason why we can't fix it or that it won't be a great investment for us, both emotionally and financially. As far as finances go, both of us losing our source of income at the same time definitely threw a wrench in our plans. But you guys - with how terrible 2020 is for so many, we refuse to complain even a little bit. Real sorrow, real pain makes our little hiccup seem very small. We are hoping to be back to work sooner than later, like so many others. Luckily for us, we're very well practiced at "getting on" with very little money. Keep in mind we bought her at auction without ever meeting the owner! The owner was sailing along and ran aground - hard. Hard enough that the keel pivoted and pushed the aft end up into the hull. This force cracked the internal grid in several places and broke a portion of the grid free from hull. At some point an inspection was done, insurance was called and decisions were made. Sailing without steering is no joke… In this episode, we limp our way from Black Point to Cambridge Cay in the Exumas using only the emergency tiller after a complete hydraulic failure. Things go from bad to worse when our dinghy tow line snags a mooring ball—ripping a huge hole in it and trapping us in place. With the boat stuck and the situation escalating, a kind fellow cruiser named Julio comes to our rescue. After securing the boat, I do my best to patch the damaged dinghy and we head out to one of the top snorkeling spots in the Bahamas—The Aquarium—where the underwater life is unreal. Later, we explore the island on foot… but our dog decides to bring us an unexpected “souvenir” from the trail: a dead rat. Life at sea is never boring.
