This looks like the Norwegian flag, but there are some Swedish colors in it. Why? Who is (was?) using this flag, and why is the sailing yacht Maja still using it? Get a short explanation about this mix of Norwegian and Swedish flag, also called "Sildesalaten". Here is some history about the flag, taken from Wikipedia september 1st 2024: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_mark_of_Norway_and_Sweden The union mark of Norway and Sweden was a symbol of the Union between Sweden and Norway. It was inserted into the canton of the Swedish and Norwegian national flags from 1844 to denote the partnership of the two countries in a personal union. The mark combined the flag colours of both kingdoms, equally distributed, to reflect their equal status within the union. The stand-alone design of the mark was used for the diplomatic flag and the naval jack of the union. The union mark remained part of the flags of both countries until it was removed from the merchant and state flags of Norway in 1899 because of increasing Norwegian dissatisfaction with the union. It remained on the naval ensign of Norway and all Swedish flags until the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905. Background The Union of Sweden and Norway came about as a result of the Napoleonic Wars, when the king of Denmark–Norway, on the losing side, was forced to cede Norway to the king of Sweden by the Treaty of Kiel in 1814. Norwegian resistance led to the declaration of national independence and the adoption of a constitution on 17 May 1814. A brief war with Sweden resulted in the Convention of Moss on 14 August 1814 and the Norwegian constitutional revision of 4 November 1814 to open the way for a personal union. On the same day, the Norwegian parliament chose to elect Charles XIII of Sweden as King of Norway. According to the constitution of November 1814, Norway was to have its own merchant flag, but the war flag was to reflect the union. The present flag of Norway was introduced in 1821, but its use was restricted. The union war flag of 1815 was a Swedish flag defaced with a canton showing a white saltire on red, meant to represent Norway. Public opinion in Norway saw this situation as unsatisfactory, and demanded a reform of flags and arms to reflect the equal status of the two states within the union. Here is some history about the union taken from Wikipedia september 1st 2024: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_between_Sweden_and_Norway Sweden and Norway or Sweden–Norway, officially the United Kingdoms of Sweden and Norway, and known as the United Kingdoms, was a personal union of the separate kingdoms of Sweden and Norway under a common monarch and common foreign policy that lasted from 1814 until its peaceful dissolution in 1905. The two states kept separate constitutions, laws, legislatures, administrations, state churches, armed forces, and currencies; the kings mostly resided in Stockholm, where foreign diplomatic representations were located. The Norwegian government was presided over by viceroys: Swedes until 1829, Norwegians until 1856. That office was later vacant and then abolished in 1873. Foreign policy was conducted through the Swedish foreign ministry until the dissolution of the union in 1905. Norway had been in a closer union with Denmark, but Denmark–Norway's alliance with Napoleonic France caused the United Kingdom and Russia to consent to Sweden's annexation of the realm as compensation for the loss of Finland in 1809 and as a reward for joining the alliance against Napoleon. By the 1814 Treaty of Kiel, the King of Denmark-Norway was forced to cede Norway to the King of Sweden, but Norway refused to submit to the treaty provisions, declared independence, and convoked a constituent assembly at Eidsvoll in early 1814. After the adoption of the new Constitution of Norway on 17 May 1814, Prince Christian Frederick was elected king. The ensuing Swedish–Norwegian War (1814) and the Convention of Moss compelled Christian Frederick to abdicate after calling an extraordinary session of the Norwegian Parliament, the Storting, to revise the Constitution in order to allow for a personal union with Sweden. On 4 November the Storting elected Sweden's king, Charles XIII, as the King of Norway, thereby confirming the union. Continuing differences between the two realms led to a failed attempt to create a separate Norwegian consular service and then, on 7 June 1905, to a unilateral declaration of independence by the Storting. Sweden accepted the union's dissolution on 26 October. After a plebiscite confirming the election of Prince Carl of Denmark as the new king of Norway, he accepted the Storting's offer of the throne on 18 November and took the regnal name of Haakon VII.

How do they build Hallberg-Rassy yachts? Join us on a quick factory tour in Sweden to see how Hallberg-Rassy yachts are made. The video gives a quick view of boat building, engines, and wooden decks. See how the marine industry is thriving in Sweden! How do Hallberg-Rassy build their fantastic sailboats? Join us on a factory tour around the Hallberg-Rassy yard on their Open Yard event august 2024. Look how they manufacture yachts like the Hallberg-Rassy 340, 400, 40C and 57. Hallberg-Rassy is a high end sailboat manufacturer located at the island Orust on the west coast of Sweden. This island has been the birth place for a lot of great yachts. Malö (Malo), Najad, CR Yachts, NordWest, Arcona. In this video you will see how they build the Hallberg Rassy yachts. They have a modern production facility. The boats are expensive, but if you can afford one you will get the state of the art dream yacht, that is capable of long distance cruising. The yard has a long history,. The yard is family owned, and family operated. The yard is without debt. They produce yachts from 43 foot to 69 foot, and have delivered 9400 yachts so far. All of them are delivered on time. Hallberg-Rassy is the number one brand most sailors dream of. A Hallberg-Rassy is your dream yacht within reach. Hallberg-Rassy, built in Sweden, has always meant good comfort combined with easy handling. Every year the Hallberg-Rassy yard is open to the public for one week end in august. This is called the Open Yard week end (Öppet varv). They the yard and the surrounding area is crowded by people, customers, suppliers and employees. The atmosphere is always good. This video is recorded at the 2024 Open yard event. For followers of this channel, that has read so far in the description, you will notice that we have also visited the small supplier Vakuumteak i Väst. (Vacuum teak in the West). This is a small business that has specialized in giving old yachts a new life. The owner is a former Hallberg-Rassy employee, and he is now running a small business where he is taking off the old teak deck, and puts a new teak deck on. This is an expensive job, but it can give your beloved yacht a new life for the next 40 years. It is still more affordable than buying a brand new Hallberg-Rassy 57.. The reason for saying this is that this company will put a new teak deck on our old 1982 Nauticat 38 this coming winter. We will of course make videos on how this is done, and you will be able to see the whole process. This series of videos will come during the winter and spring og 2024 - 2025. Subscribe to follow this project. That will be interesting. Take a quick tour of a Swedish boat yard and see exactly how its made! Witness the process of yacht building and boat building in sweden. Issa Vibe! 😁🎶🎭🎉🇬🇩 Hey guys, I wanted to share a bit about the ‘Spicemas’ Carnival in Grenada, one of the island’s most vibrant and culturally rich events. Unlike most carnivals that happen in February before Lent, Grenada’s carnival takes place in August. This timing helps it stand out and not compete with the big carnivals in Trinidad and Brazil. One of the most fascinating parts of Spicemas is J’Ouvert, which starts early on Carnival Monday (around dawn). Participants, known as Jab Jabs, cover themselves in black oil, grease, or paint and wear horned helmets and chains. This isn’t just for show – it’s rich in history and symbolism. The Jab Jab costumes represent resistance and liberation and symbolize the fight against French colonial masters. The chains they carry stand for the struggle and the victory over bondage, making the whole celebration even more meaningful. J’Ouvert is just the beginning! The festivities continue for a whole week (actually more like a whole month) and there’s different events, parades and parties everywhere. 🎭🎉🏝️ Spice Mas may be smaller than the carnivals in Trinidad (biggest Caribbean Carnival) and Brazil (biggest Carnival worldwide), but it’s filled with energy, creativity, and a strong sense of community. It’s a beautiful celebration of Grenadian culture and spirit. If you ever get the chance, you should definitely experience it for yourself! Young adventorous guy leaving Norway singlehanded. Heads out for adventure alone in his 1977 Halbarg-Rassy Monsun 31. Complete walkthrough of the boat HR Monsun, with all preparations for a long distance cruising. The boat has been on several long cruises, and have crossed the Atlantic numerous times. This boat sailed back to Norway from the West Indies summer 2023, and then Brage bought her. Brage has been fixing the teak deck for some time. He has also had problems with the diesel engine, with a diesel runaway postponing the departure for some time. The plan is to leave Norway tomorrow, and head down to the bay of Biscay as soon as possible. Then avoid the Orcas around Portugal and Spain, before sailing south to the Canary Islands. Brage also wants to pop by in Africa, as he has many good memories from that continent. Follow us on this walkthrough of the ocean crossing small boat, with the enthusiastic skipper Brage telling us all about it. Subscribe for more content on special boats and interesting skippers. Also subscribe to follow Brage on this adventure. If you don't go now, when you do go, you'll find you've gone! The skipper is preparing for a solo sailing journey from Norway on his Hallberg Rassy. The video shows the packing of food and equipment for his atlantic crossing. He plans to be self sufficient for this single handed sailing trip.

Sailing the Nauticat 38 ketch singlehanded. Footage of a single handed sailing trip with the camera mounted on the deck as the boat cuts through the waves. The video shows how to sail and handle the lines as the sea gets choppy then calm again. Come aboard and experience the adventure of sailing yacht. How to get the sails up on a Nauticat? How to reduce sails? How is the Nauticat motor sailer actually sailing? Follow me on this single handed cruise from Norway to Sweden, crossing the Oslo fjord. Leaving the fjord og Sandefjord (Norway), and entering the islands of Koster (Sweden). On this cruise the wind was blowing about 15 to 20 knots, and the boat were sailing 4 to 6 knots, occasionally 7 knots. Considerable waves, but not too much. I was sailing with a full genua, a full mizzen and two reefs in the main. If you see things I can do better, or thing you dont fully understand, please do write a comment to the video. I am always open to new perspectives on these things, and I am by no means an expert on sailing this big and heavy Nauticat alone (yet). Funny thing is, that on the ferry in the background, my crew is eating their lunch. When sailing with children, they some times want to the the ferry instead of sailing. So, whatever floats you boat. Then at least I get 6 hours of grown up time alone. I'll make a short video of the shots from the ferry later on. This video if mainly shot with the Insta 360, with some small parts on an iPhone 15. What are diesel bugs and how do you tackle them? This video showcases the issues with a 40-year-old boat, focusing on the importance of proper diesel maintenance. Learn about fuel contamination and the steps taken for fuel tank cleaning to restore engine performance and prevent future problems. A must-watch for boat owners! Dealing with diesel bugs is a common part of the boat life, here seen on a a Nauticat 38. Proper boat maintenance includes regular fuel tank cleaning and using a diesel bug treatment to prevent problems. Keep your diesel fuel clean to avoid engine issues. What have I done to avoid the fuel bugs or diesel bugs to get back? Let's see what happened to this motor sailor, a Nauticat 38.The boat is rather old, its 40 year old, but in good condition and with a new engine 4 years old, and almost a 1.000 hours. The condition of the fuel tanks are unknown at this time. The first trip of the year was early, perhaps a bit too early. It was 5 hours motoring. At the end I felt that the engine was not performing well. It did not stop, but it was not quite as it used to be. So, safe at my destination I checked the fuel filter. Then I was terrified. It was almost completely blocked by old fuel bugs. Have a look at this water separator. The fuel should be clear and green. Now it is just a brown mess.Luckily I was moored to a pier, but I was still 5 hours away from home, and the weather had changed. I did not dare to go back. I had to call the ghost busters. Or at least the fuel bug busters. Fuel bugs or Diesel bugs are a microorganisms that grow on fuels. They feed on the hydrocarbons in the fuel and create biomass, biofilms and damaging by-products. These microorganisms live in even the smallest amounts of water, often from condensation, and at the interface of fuel and water, where they can create thick biomass. So, I had to call the bug buster. He arrived with some impressive equipment. All the fuel was removed from the tanks. We have 2 tanks with 300 liters of fuel in each tank. The fuel was cleaned, and later put back on the tanks. He made three holes in each tank, to clean the inside of the tanks properly. Then the same procedure on the other tank. Here you can see how the tanks looked inside, before he cleaned it. This is after he cleaned it. It took half the day, and it cost a fortune, but I had no choice. Now I was ready to sail home again, and really start the season. So, what have I done since that time, so I don’t get this back? First, I use fuel additives to eliminate the bugs.I check my water separator often, and I change my fuel filters often. Second, I remove the water. Since water is heavier than diesel, it will stay in the bottom of the tank. Several times during the sailing season, I drain some diesel from the tank, to get rid of any water. Here you can see how I do it. The black hose is just for safety, in case someone opens the valve by mistake. I remove this black hose.Temporarily I connect the short blue hose, that lead to a small bottle. Then I open the valve just a few seconds, to drain water and fuel. Now you can see green clear fuel.In the beginning I got remains of the bugs in one of the tanks. Here you can see the fuel from port and starboard tank. Look at the difference. Now after some time, I get only green clear fuel when I do this.
