Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli continued their relentless drive for perfection today (Thursday) on their fourth straight session this week in near-perfect conditions out on the Bay of Cagliari and were joined on their imaginary racecourse by competition in the form of 1800 horsepower hanging off the back of their Chase Boat to give the team some pressure or ‘interference’ as Francesco Bruni called it later. Speaking afterwards, Francesco ‘Cecco’ Bruni was his usual open, honest and frank self, opening the door to the campaign with the ever-present smile of a man that knows a good day when he sees it. “Well, we did half a day testing, half a day out today around the course. We try to push around the course a little bit more than usual with the Chase Boat - a little bit of Chase Boat action interfering with the boat. It was good we had a good setup, the boat was going well today so yeah it was a very nice day and with the sea breeze here it was perfect intensity, medium breeze between 12 and 15 knots or so and the waves were not too big so pretty easy kind of day.” Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024

It was an interesting crew swap today for INEOS Britannia out in Palma with Leigh McMillan coming into the driving seat on the port side, taking control of flight on the starboard-hung W-Foil, whilst Giles Scott switched over to the port pod cockpit rifling through an aggressive testing schedule on the T-Foil. For Leigh McMillan, a double Olympian in the Tornado class (2004 & 2008), and a fine foiling sailor in his own right, he was excused from his usual role as one of the team’s go-to Flight Controllers for a highly productive test session that saw both helms increasingly pushing harder and harder through manoeuvres. Early falls off the W-Foil were correlated to lighter winds but as the breeze built into the afternoon, the new helming duo barely missed a transition and with the very experienced Luke Parkinson and Bleddyn Mon doing trim and Flight Control, they looked totally in control. Mainsail trim again saw big twist induced and, similar to all the top teams at the moment, control of the head was masterful to keep ‘T6’ flying for long stints and powering through the lulls effectively. Section 41. Michel Karmarec, the French Soling representative at the 1988 Olympic Games, hydro-dynamics specialist and senior naval architect in the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team offers a unique insight into his world in this fascinating interview post sailing today (Wednesday) in Barcelona. The Swiss AC75 ‘BoatZero’ was working through several foil-to-foil issues throughout the session with notable: “weakness in gybes to starboard while in low mode” recorded by the recon team. Michel reminded that: “it's normal not to be at 100% now, the goal is to be more than 100% in a year’s time,” and ran through the day as well as speaking about the design process, the areas of design focus and the correlation between on-water data and the numbers generated in the simulator. Michel also gave a good insight into cavitation and ventilation saying: “Cavitation is pretty easy because it's well predicted by the tool, the tricky point is the ventilation and so far, it's a matter of adjusting the tool for it and making comparison with what's happening in real life so that's why all our tests are very important to adjust the tool…it’s a very important point for sure.” Section 41. Life at 50 knots is rapidly becoming commonplace for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli who put in one of the finest sailing sessions of this America’s Cup cycle on Wednesday to firmly lay out their stall as the most compelling of Challengers for the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona. Speaking afterwards Dan Jowett who was onboard today in the joyride seat and a mechanical engineer from New Zealand who specialised in yacht aerodynamics and worked as an engineer at the Yacht Research Unit and Twisted Flow Wind Tunnel in his native Auckland as well as being a member of the Measurement Committee at the 36th America’s Cup, gave a great interview saying: “We had perfect champagne conditions today, bit of a Mistral, and had a range of wind strengths that sort of built slowly over the day but really flat water that gave us some great opportunities for straight-lining for a little bit this morning to test a few things and then a few laps this afternoon with some race marks in and put the sailing team under a bit of pressure and some tight turns and things, so awesome day on the water.” Section 41. I’ve been editing this episode from the comfort of home, with a hot cup of tea and access to a shower. Simple things that I'll never take for granted again! In this episode we take a detour. A very long and high detour - instead of cycling to the southern most point of New Zealand aka. "The Bluff" we headed along the Lake Dunstan trail, through the Nevis Valley and finally the "Around the Mountain" trail in reverse, towards Queenstown. WHY?! because we like pain and suffering. **We met Eric and Shanti whilst standing outside of a charity shop in Murchison - Eric shared a few of his bikepacking stories with us, as did we with him. Shortly after, we exchanged contact details and 6 weeks later we meet again in Wanaka. Together, we hiked, laughed, painted, drank beers, cooked, drank coffee, danced, sung, ALL BRILLIANT!!!! It's so very nice to edit these videos and look back on what we've accomplished and who we have met along the way - all whilst thinking of ways to invent a time machine. Enjoy! K & J

Doug DeVos, Team Principal of New York Yacht Club American Magic gives his honest and open appraisal of where the team are at as they prepare to de-camp to Barcelona for the rest of the America’s Cup campaign. Mr DeVos reflects on what has been a terrific winter of testing in Pensacola, Florida and his huge enthusiasm for the new AC40 class saying: “we’re thrilled with the progress that we’ve made.” Data and performance gathering have been at a premium with American Magic this winter and the team have been the most active on the water of any team in this America’s Cup cycle, re-launching their AC75 ‘Patriot’ and taking that to new levels of outright performance whilst their AC40 programme has been spectacular with dynamic displays of foiling technique sailing from Tom Slingsby and Paul Goodison. Mr DeVos reflects on the battle against time – the great enemy in the America’s Cup – and the decisions that have to be made. This is a must-watch video from one of the great patrons and supporters of American sailing and the America’s Cup and as he says: “We've had a great run here in Pensacola. We're getting ourselves ready to head to Barcelona not too distant future, but we feel we've had a really good session here. This has been a great venue for us with the AC75 earlier and now with the AC40 up and running we feel we've got a lot of good laps in, learning a lot along the way and so we’re feeling that we're on track. A lot of work to do, always a lot of work to do, but we feel we’re on track.” Section 41. Days like today (Wednesday) are the kind of days that fully justify the selection by the INEOS Britannia hierarchy of the Bay of Palma as the team’s winter training base. It was picture perfect in the afternoon when the sea breeze filled and topped out at 18 knots giving Ben Ainslie, Giles Scott, Leigh McMillan and Luke Parkinson ample opportunity to put the hammer down and thrash their LEQ12 relentlessly over windward / leeward courses. Afterwards, the ‘Flight Controller’s Flight Controller’ Luke Parkinson gave a superb interview to Justin Chisholm of the recon team saying: “So today we had a bit of a traditional sea-breeze sort of feeling. We went out there reasonably early, so we saw everything from 5 knots and then building up to even 18 knots and then settling back down as the day concluded. It was pretty nice, so we went out there and started off with just a few little take-offs and practising a few little techniques and just seeing what is the bottom end we can sort of take-off and playing around.” Section 41. Ep 44 – Medical Kit / Sailing Free Spirit As we are now able to at the very least get some daytime cruising in, we needed to review our medical kit. Constantly working on the boat as well there can be accidents that happen and this is a great advantage to be able to get us fixed up until we can get to a doctor if injured on the boat while working on day cruising around the islands here in the Gulf of Mexico. This classic 50 motor yacht was built in 1965 by the Hatteras Yachts Company in High Point, North Carolina.Incredible was the name christened her by Hatteras marketing department. This name has always stayed with the boat and has never been changed by its 3 owners.Serving as Hatteras demonstrator and show boat until the new 53 Classic was introduced in 1969; Incredible had the unique opportunity to be updated each year with the latest improvements including the extension of the aft deck enclosure and the changing of double berth arrangement in the owners stateroom to the full bed berth of today. Since taking ownership in 2001, the current owners have cruised the northeast coast from Connecticut to Delaware, spent several years on the Chesapeake, and cruised the Atlantic East Coast and the Gulf Coast to Port Isabel. She now calls Clear Lake her port of call. After 4 years of extensive cruising by the current owners, they began to research and identified the needs for a boat that would bridge the gap between cruising and entertainment. It was important to maintain a comfortable life afloat associated in a live aboard life style. While retaining the Hatteras classic lines, the current owners lunched a major refit and restoration in 2005 completing it in 2008.Her hull was stripped to its original fiberglass removing layers of built-up paint before referring and repainting with Awlcraft 2000.Many sections of her deck were also repaired, removing soft under-lament. The fly bridge was moved forward 44 inches and a new custom dash was built to accommodate the latest in electronics.Every room has been redesigned and refinished, many stripped to the bulkheads or down to the interior fiberglass. With the aid of a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer, the galley and heads were totally reimaged. The galley redesign, the most unique of any 50 or 53 ft Hatteras motor yacht, is truly incredible. Custom Wood-Mode cherry wood cabinets, provided space and amenities trending today in home kitchen design. The added granite countertops turn this personal workspace into a model of beauty and efficiency. The heads, stripped to the bare bones, would take on a more contemporary upscale design that can only be described as functional art.Custom Wood-Mode cabinets, topped with quartz countertops, showcase precision craftsmanship, practical storage and exquisite beauty. She has two 2006 (NEW AT THE TIME) Cummins engines increasing total power from 700 hp to 860 hp.The increased horse power increased cruising speed from 11 to 16 knots and top speed from 13 to 19 knots. The retrofit included a 15 kw generator, ACs, all electronics by Raymarine, an entertainment center, all appliances, windows, updated electrical and lighting throughout, and the addition of stabilizers are just a few of her improvements. In May of 2008, Incredible won the Corinthian Award for best restoration at the Keels and Wheels Concours DElegance, in Seabrook, Texas. Incredible would once again return to the Keels and Wheels competition in 2016, taken Best in Class. #hatteras50 #littleyachtsales #hatterasyachts

By crossing the finish line of the ancestor of the Vendée Globe in Les Sables d'Olonne this Thursday at 21:43:47 CET, the South African sailor has achieved one of the greatest accomplishments in ocean racing. Winner of the Golden Globe race, without assistance or technology, after 235 days, 5 hours, 44 minutes and 4 seconds of racing (final time will be determined after the calculation of penalties for using fuel and bonuses), Kirsten became the first woman to win a solo round-the-world race under sail. This achievement was celebrated in Les Sables d'Olonne, now more than ever the world capital of single-handed ocean racing. (c) Ville des Sables d'Olonne

It was a long day on the water for the Alinghi Red Bull Racing Team sailors on Tuesday as the easterly ‘Levant’ wind waited until late in the day to fill along the Barcelona shoreline. When it did, the session was electric with BoatZero, the Swiss team’s AC75, flying up and down the waterfront with the Flight Controllers wrestling the boat through manoeuvres desperate to keep the bow from digging in post tack and gybe. The Swiss interpretation looks logical and, on the water, the cyclors are largely anonymous, tucked away in extremely aero positions and far enough forward to create decent communication between helm, flight control, trim and cyclor. It’s a great system that Théry Schir, one of the new breed of powertrain athletes in this America’s Cup and himself a double Olympian in cycling thinks will be improved upon as he said: “Well for sure everyone is involved in designing and developing the boat…it's really cool actually, it's pretty Section 41.

After a sensational session on the water on Tuesday, Max Sirena the Team Director & Skipper of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli offers a broad perspective on the current America’s Cup cycle and the level that all the challengers are striving to get to in order to be competitive against Emirates Team New Zealand. Max gives an honest appraisal of where the Italian team are at and the limits that they continue to push in training in Cagliari. Max also offers an insight into the looming deadline of when the hull lines will be completed on the Italian AC75 and how into the detail of deck-layouts and systems the team are. Always a sailor’s sailor, Max is looking forward to the launch of the team’s AC40 next week in Cagliari and seeing the boat line up against the LEQ12 before it heads to Barcelona for the summer sailing season. Once in Barcelona, Max believes it will be very interesting to see the next moves of the America’s Cup teams and he is watching closely. Section 41. Ben Ainslie was back in Palma on Tuesday to join Giles Scott, Iain Jensen and Luke Parkinson for a short but highly productive sailing session in Palma’s, now regular, sea-breeze that filters in almost bang on cue at midday. The regularity of the wind allows INEOS Britannia to switch their focus to targeted training and although the tick box list is never-ending, it allows the sailors to really concentrate on specifics. On a hot day that certainly felt like summer – Luke Parkinson had his shorts on – INEOS Britannia were accurate in their sailing and as Jeff Causey, Head of on-water Operations said afterwards: “It was a good sea breeze, we’re into a nice pattern of that here in Palma now which is making it easy to sort of get out and get what we need on any given day really; so it changes our days because we're not finding the best day in the week we can and going trying to get a really long day, we're changing the focus on to shorter focused sessions and then coming back in and using the rest of the time we have to try and take those learnings into the next day….I think we ticked most of the boxes today.” Section 41. This boat is now for sale: https://www.sailboatlistings.com/view/100765 WELCOME!!! To this full in-depth tour of my friends Huub's tiny sailboat. S/V "Limonada" is a 1971 Alberg 30. It's a slooped rigged, full keel monohull sailboat that's acquired a ton of character over the last half century! As well, this is Huub's humble home upon the sea. Three years ago, Huub went to Guatemala, found this boat that was supposedly ready to sail. He fell in love with it a bit quickly. And then found out after he paid $18,000, it was more ready to sink than sail. But he did not quit! After no shortage of blood, sweat & tears. His sheer grit & determination won through. Eventually he made this sailboat just ready enough to sail all the way out of Guatemala, to Jamaica, and throughout the Eastern Caribbean. Even though he has no life raft or emergency equipment. A testament to his conviction to become a true sailor. Something most could never do. Huub has been a longtime content creator with his channel "Huub's Vlog" https://m.youtube.com/@HuubVlogs He's been traveling all over the world. But like anyone who takes to the sea like this. He quickly found out it's a different and difficult ball game out here. But through many trials and disasters. He's stuck with it and learned soo much along the way. So give his channel a look and see for yourself. This is a very humble sailboat. Mainly due to it's size I don't think most people could live in it. But that is an upside I think. Because unlike most catamarans and other larger vessels. This sailboat is highly affordable and has an extremely low cost to maintain. Allowing Huub to be able to sail and cruise full time. Without worry of breaking the bank. . . If you can, I'd really recommend checking out his Patreon page. He puts a ton of effort into his dedicated fan base. And I know he'd appracite your support. https://www.patreon.com/huubvlogs Also, check out these other collaborations Huub and I have done: https://youtu.be/tveHlt4qTQo __________________________________________________________________________________________________ Help support my channel & get exclusive/early access: https://www.patreon.com/adventuremandan 🤜🏼 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/adventuremandan.life/ 🤜🏼 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/adventureman_dan/ 👋🏼New Here?!?👋🏼 Hello & welcome! I'm Daniel aka "Adventureman Dan." I've been living on the edge, from one adventure to another for the past nine years. Stating in Central California with my first GoPro, through SoCal, Baja, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Alaska and throughout the whole USA. But for the past five years on my sailboat "Adventureborne" I'm open to unlimited possibilities of where I can go, and what I can do! #sailing #sailor #sailboat

By the early 1930s, the once mighty White Star Line found itself on the brink of collapse. How did the company that once built some of the largest and most prestigious transatlantic ocean liners end up merging with its greatest rival? It's easy to assume that the sinking of the RMS Titanic doomed the White Star Line but the reality of its downfall is far more complicated. It was a wet start for NYYC American Magic on Monday morning with a displacement windward capsize right off the bat on the very first attempt at flight. No harm done, the superb chase boat team were in fast, and the boat was upright again in under three minutes. Speaking afterwards, Andrew Campbell gave a terrific interview with Mike Pedersen of the recon team in Pensacola and was delighted to be steering today, saying: “It's been fun driving the boat. It's been really good for me to be able to do some of the autopilot flight control that this system allows us to do and to see and understand how the boat reacts using that system is really valuable for us and it's been really valuable for the other guys to have another set of hands on the wheel to learn about how to communicate and how to deal with all the changes and new prompts and new ideas that a new driver comes with. So that's all really good and healthy for us I think, and it definitely opens up opportunities for us once we get two boats in the water.” Section 41.

Maxime Bachelin, one of the elite Driving Group at Alinghi Red Bull Racing reflects on a light weather day in Barcelona that saw the Swiss complete their first ever perfect session of foil-to-foil tacks and gybes across some 70 manoeuvres. Outstanding in the conditions, the team were sailing their AC40 with pin-point precision, bow down, flat to windward heel upwind and super-low flight. Offwind, they looked measured with half flight, smooth transitions and exits. Once a course was set by the Chase Boat team, and in slightly stronger afternoon ‘Xaloc’ breeze from the south-east, the Swiss had their tails up and nailed the start lines and laylines. Impressive. Maxime talks through the various jib clew positions they were using and sums up a perfect day for Alinghi Red Bull Racing. Section 41.
