Good Days Bad Days. That's Sailing. Welcome to our channel. We are now in season 6 In 2018 we left the UK to sail around the world slowly. After Brexit, a "Pandemic" and major heart surgery we are still sailing, documenting our travels and showing you what we have learned so far. We are hoping to complete our journey, and travel right around the world even if we have had a few setbacks along the way. We will continue at our own pace and that may be fast or slow. We want to be sure not to miss anything and have stories to tell our grandchildren when we are old and grey. Sail Safe Guys, Ant & Cid. We do have a second channel YOUR DRONE TV It is a mix of music from classical to blues, from Opera to Punk all with stunning drone footage. An encouraging day for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli with the technicians doing a stellar job in ironing out the gremlins from the team’s new AC40 and delivering a fully functional platform on Saturday for the sailors to begin commissioning. The weather though in Cagliari was up and down with a dense rain-laden weather system filtering off the Capoterra mountains early in the session, shutting out the sunlight, and delivering gusts up to 20 knots before clearing and leaving very marginal foiling conditions of just 7-8 knots. Once up and flying, Francesco Bruni, Marco Gradoni, Umberto Molineris and Andrea Tesei brought all the foiling tricks into play, flying low with windward heel and bow down whilst oversheeting the traveller to windward in the patches. Francesco Bruni gave a super-positive interview afterwards, delighted that the early technical issues that the team faced with the AC40 have been sorted and is looking forward to the week ahead where the team will be running a two-boat programme with the AC40 and the LEQ12 that will be coming back out with upgrades. Francesco, one of the undoubted superstars of this America’s Cup cycle, runs through his initial observations of the AC40 in comparison with the LEQ12 and breaks down the day for us. Much more to come next week from Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli and with a decent forecast for the week ahead we will see the Italians really pushing both boats. It will be fascinating to watch. Section 41. Reconnaissance a) As a campaign cost reduction measure, COR/D has mutually agreed to cooperatively implement a centralised reconnaissance programme for all teams for the reconnaissance of all Competitors’ AC75 Yachts, AC40 Yachts and LEQ12 yachts including both on-land and on-water imagery (the “Joint Recon Programme”). b) Each team is assigned a two-person Recon Unit to follow their every on-water move, but it's not that simple. The cameras are supplied and identical for all Recon Units. Drones are not allowed, and they can't get that close, plus following a boat and keeping a camera steady at 45 knots isn't that easy to begin with. c) A three minute interview follows each on water day, and teams must answer the Recon Unit's questions while trying not to give too much away. It's a raw, unedited view of the never before seen behind-the-scenes development of a team and their boat to win the oldest trophy in international sports. #AC37Recon #AmericasCup #Barcelona2024

The mood around the INEOS Britannia winter training base in Palma continues its upwards trajectory with an air of performance expectation around the new starboard curved foil that appears very much to have step-changed the on-water performance of ‘T6’ – the British Team’s LEQ12 prototype test platform. In perfect conditions today that Justin Chisholm of the recon team, described as being a ‘barnstormer’, Giles Scott, Dylan Fletcher-Scott. Leigh McMillan and Iain Jensen had the perfect opportunity for a full high-speed testing day. They didn’t disappoint with some superb ‘segments’ and runs being completed to provide maximum data for the designers and engineers poring and perhaps ‘purring’ over the new performance profile. Leigh McMillan, the hugely experienced Flight Controller for INEOS Britannia came ashore afterwards with a spring in his step after a thoroughly entertaining session and gave what can only be described as a superb insight into the team’s thinking and approach with five weeks left before the move across the water to Barcelona. In the video below he talks through the new foil – it’s hinge-less topside and gives a sailor’s perspective on how this exciting phase of the British programme is progressing. Not to be missed, Leigh is one of best interviewees of this America’s Cup cycle. Section 41. Ep 46 – Dinghy Race / Sailing Free Spirit Well what else happens when you have a bunch of people drinking and provoking each other… We wind up having a dingy race, of course! Some of this was not caught on camera, but our dingy wound up breaking so we talked our dock mates into hijacking their dingy for the race and we even gave the other team a head start… Race started at the doc and ended up at one tree island in the ICW at clearwater beach. Maybe a mile or so… not far but very fun!! All financial contributions (or items purchased on Amazon) are tax deductible for your US income tax returns for full face and/or retail value. It took a while to find the wind out on the Bay of Palma with the Chase Boat team and meteorologists earning their keep but once the INEOS Britannia team clicked into a patchy 10-12 knots far out of the Bay, the sailors had ‘T6’ looking rock solid and more than achieving the low ‘bustle-skimming’ flight that they desired. The choppy offshore conditions caused little concern for the sailors and as Iain Jensen, who was in the observers role on the Chase Boat today, commented afterwards: “It's not a bad thing looking at looking at the new foil in a bit of chop, just because it's probably what will expect to see (in Barcelona) but more than anything we needed more breeze than what we could find in the Bay.” Section 41. Alinghi Red Bull Racing have, to date, kept their design cards close to their chest with only small reveals of direction and thinking on the AC75 in terms of deck layout and some systems controls. What the America’s Cup world has been keen to see though is Marcelo Botin’s thoughts on foil design and today out in Barcelona, the first new Swiss foil broke cover, mounted on the team’s AC40 that now goes into LEQ12 development mode. Unfortunately, the conditions in Barcelona were more winter than Spring today with what the recon team described as an “aggressive chop” and a very “messy sea state.” In those conditions and with new technology onboard, the Swiss opted for a three nautical mile tow test with foil designer Nico Bailey onboard and then took the AC40 back into the Port Vell base where the sail technicians jumped onboard with what is assumed to be a new mainsail for the AC40. Much attention was being paid to the battening at the head and the headboard area itself. We will wait to see it in action in the coming days.

I first discovered Pearl Yachts at the Cannes Boat Show last year when I had a tour of the 62 and 95 in their range. I was fortunate to be invited on the press day for this new Pearl Yachts 72 over in Palma, Mallorca which is an amazing little island in the Med and part of Spain. This British brand is taking the competition to Princess and Sunseeker by producing a very high quality build at a cheaper price by utilizing their manufacturing facility in China. I've seen this before with an Australian Whitehaven Yachts built in Taiwan and I have to say they have come out with an excellent product that does meet the European brands head on in terms of quality. Sure it won't have the brand recognition that Princess & Sunseeker enjoy in Australia but the cost savings are real and the argument to put a vessel like this into charter is also a solid one. They have already sold their first Pearl 62 into Sydney so expect to see more about this interesting company downunder very soon! Terry Hutchinson summed the day up perfectly saying: “Today was a great day and a culmination of three really good days here on Pensacola Bay and I think the afternoon sea breezes as we know at this time of year have delivered. It's great to be standing here on the dock at 6:00pm and the breeze is still up, and the guys had a great day sailing, another day where the batteries got used so it's an absolute win.” Reflecting on the team’s time in Pensacola, Terry simply could not have been more grateful for the way the local community and government bodies took NYYC American Magic firmly to their hearts saying: “Pensacola has been a phenomenal partner, they've embraced NYYC American Magic and they brought us into their community here and we're so fortunate to have the very genuine support not only of the local government but the local community, the folks at the grocery store, everybody out of the Portofino, everybody at the Andrews Institute, Doctor Hackle and everything that he does for us, so it's definitely bittersweet to be packing up and heading to Barcelona and to get into really the final phase of the development of our programme as we move into AC37, but you really truly cannot thank the community enough for everything they've done for us. It’s a very humbling experience to be embraced in the minute they've embraced us.” Section 41. INEOS Britannia looked scintillating on Wednesday as the team took to the water with their new slight-anhedral, long-span, port foil replete with its barrage of mounted cameras for a superb day of commissioning that will certainly have raised a smile with the design office and data engineers back at Mercedes Applied Science HQ in Brackley, Northamptonshire. Bleddyn Mon, arguably the key link within the INEOS Britannia team between the sailing and technical sides of the programme, was trimming and flight controlling from the port side of ‘T6’ today and he gave a terrific run down of the new foil profile saying: “It's kind of a concept that we’ve seen across a few of the teams so yeah early days for sure for us, very much a commissioning day really to be honest, making sure that it's kind of actuating as expected and everything and we’ll have to have a look at the data tonight and see what we can see with it.” Section 41. I have a charity that is helping budget sailors in need. I call it the "Sailor Samaritan Charity". Together with the generous support of Island Water World(a major boating supply store in the Caribbean), I've been able to help my first sailor. So I started with my friend and fellow sailing YouTuber Huub, from "Huub's VLog". After filming an emergency life raft video together. Huub told me he didn't have a ditch bag. I was a bit scared for him, so I made sure he'd be the first to benefit from this charity program. Together we took the dinghy right up to Island Water World and picked out everything we'd need. This is the final ditch kit/ditch bag list we built for Huub. And I put it in order of what I think is most important. 1. EPIRB(Emergency Position-Indicating RadioBeacon) 2. Handheld VHF Radio 3. Waterproof Head Lamp 4. Medical Kit 5. 12ga Flair Gun & shells 6. Multi tool 7. Water Bottles 8. Emergency Blanket 9. Handheld Flair 10. Rope 11. Emergency duct tape 12. Air Horn 13. Signal Mirror 14. Compass 15. Rash guard 16. Buff 17. Sun block 18. Whistle 19. Snacks 20. Glow Sticks All items contained within a Highfield brand bright orange 30L Waterproof bag If you're interested in or know someone who needs something on their boat. Here's how to apply: Send me an email to adventuremandan.life@gmail.com Let me know what's going on and what you need. Or who you know that's in need and how to get a hold of them. Restrictions: Though Island Water World has given me a generous amount to work with. If I'm going to help multiple sailors, I can't buy each a big ticket item. It's my hope that I can spread this wealth to as many sailors as possible. So don't be shy if you're in need of a just a small item or two. As well, I can only help those who are along my sailing route between Saint Martin and Grenada that I can meet and take to an Island Water World store. Huub is just the first of many sailors I'm keen to help. I can't wait to hear from you! Cheers! . . . BECOME a Patron! Alinghi Red Bull Racing took advantage of near-perfect conditions out in Barcelona with the thermal ‘Garbi’ breeze delivering 12-16 knots and flat water – ideal for the Swiss to hone technique onboard their AC75 ‘BoatZero’ and try to find the perfect flight to keep the bow clear whilst keeping the power on through manoeuvres. Speaking afterwards, Elliot Pilcher one of the Hydraulics Engineers at Alinghi Red Bull Racing offered an insight into the work going on in the bowels of the boat and summed up the day saying: “It was a good day, it was perfect conditions out there, I think, we had flat water and almost up to 15 knots of breeze, that sort of range, so it was a really ideal sailing day and in the upper range everything gets up to full load pretty easily on these boats.” Section 41. New York Yacht Club American Magic may well be into their final few days of sailing on beautiful Pensacola Bay, but the pace of development ramped up a notch today as the team unveiled a new, sturdier looking port foil, beefed up around the side-wall area of the pointy bulb presumably in a leeway-defying move and some interesting outer flaps, painted in white with red markers on the outer foil. Notable too was that the new foil had upturned winglets at the outer end of both the inner and outer ends. Speaking afterwards Andrew Campbell was his usual open self in interview, saying: “Yeah another ‘Monday Blues’ man, we are starting to see that summer weather creep into Pensacola here so warm, sticky, and thunder stormy today, so we tried to sneak in a little session ahead of the of the weather and we ended up getting a lot of it on top of us…the good thing is that all the beach goers and guys in their power boats and families out for a day cruise sail are happy to go in when the rain starts so we're left alone out on the Bay and it's still good sailing conditions because the data is still being collected, it's just not as nice to look at.” Section 41. It was a first proper commissioning day for Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the AC40 with Ruggero Tita and Marco Gradoni given charge supported by the ace trimmers and Flight Controllers of Umberto Molineris and Andrea Tesei. All was looking good with a calm Bay of Cagliari welcoming one of the prettiest of the new AC40 class with 9 to 14 knots of breeze and a gentle swell for what looked like being potentially a solid day to tick through a full checklist on the systems side. First take-off looked assured on starboard tack with the port foil immersed and the one design M1 and J3 sails set but very quickly the team discovered a rotor sensor issue with the starboard foil and the realisation quickly dawned that they could only sail on the port foil. This was never going to be a long session in the circumstances, but the team enjoyed the 1 nautical mile run, playing around with ride height and windward heel, understandably a bit erratically at first, but looked pretty solid by the end of the short blast after some hairy high flight initially. With the issue detected, the technicians were in down below quickly and the call was made to lower sails and head back to shore. Enrico Voltolini, the AC40 boat captain and also one of the team in training to join the power group on the AC75, was pretty clear with the issue saying: “Today we just did a take-off, we got a problem on the rotor sensor on the starboard flap, so we were not able to sail on port and we did a structural test and soon we go back in the water. Yeah, they boat is not so easy like it seems, I mean if you steer and sail the boat it's easier than the prototype or AC75 but on the technical side it is a ‘full of mechatronics’ boat.” Section 41.
