This is a well kept secret almost too good to be true, but it is true! Just south of Melilla, within the Mar Chica sea outside of Nador in Morocco there is a marina which is totaly FREE! Free water, Free electricity, Free showers and toilets and it is guarded 24/7! People who stay there say it is so safe they would be able to leave their boats unlocked. There is a guard posted on the docks 24/7 and everyday they hose down the quays to remove insects. The service is great and they never charge you or ask you for anything. How is this even possible? Well, there is an extremely wealthy sheik who is building a tourist golf resort there. The golf courts are ready and so is the marina. The rest is under construction. So to promote the place he says any boat can come there to stay up to 18 months for free as a limited offer!! You just can't beat that, right? We knew the passage between the North Sea and the English Channel would be a challenge: we got our money worth. We left IJmuiden and set sail towards Cherbourg, knowing that the narrowest and shallowest part of the passage would be done by night. We planned to make a straight sail down to Europort, and then get closer to the shoreline to take the coastal route between Zeebrugge and Calais. Passing Europort felt a little nervous, as we had to cross some heavy traffic. Trouble started as we approached Zeebrugge, and a straight downwind got us bouncing and rolling up and down big waves. Ryan was a lot more comfortable than I was, and we discussed options: taking a break in Dunkerque or Calais, and wait for better conditions. That night, we simply couldn't sleep. At 11PM, I try to get a little rest but I couldn't close my eyes. I got back in the cockpit at 12AM, and Ryan and I helped each others with the navigation. Ryan went down in the cabin, and threw himself on the settee in his foulie, lifejacket and wellies to get a couple of hours of sleep. Eventually, at 5AM, it was my turn to get a little rest. That didn't last long, as we got a little wake-up radio call from the French customs, who approached us from the stern to ask a few questions in some of the most perfect French accents I've ever encountered. The day that followed was a perfect sailing day, followed by a calm night and a beautiful sunrise over Barlfleur. More than 8 million tonnes of plastic wind up in the ocean each year. It sounds catastrophic, but sometimes you have to see it to believe it, and really become aware of the problem that lies behind the figures. For this reason, Northsails travelled with Sam Potter, a well-known adventurer and environmental activist, to Kamilo Beach, on the southernmost tip of the Big Island of Hawaii to see first-hand one of the most polluted beaches on the planet. While Sam Potter will find a desolate landscape, his experience will turn this experience into a call for a new generation, to try to raise awareness about a serious problem that has a solution.

O catamaran vai ter 20 janelas fixas, de policarbonato, vou fixá-las com parafusos passantes. Cada buraco do parafuso precisa ser preenchido com massa epóxi e depois refurado para o tamanho do parafuso. Tudo isso para deixar impermeável o buraco e não apodrecer o compensado.

Another successful adventure to Catalina Island. Light winds force us to motor to the island, but the wind picks up and we have great sailing on the return. We enjoyed snorkeling in Lover's Cove and a beautiful weekend on the water.

After we did not use the wintertime for a new antifouling, it is time to get Seatramp out of the water and start the first topics on our long to do list. See in the first part of our maintenance video how Seatramp comes out of the water and we start our boring landlife. A lot work to do, but it is too hot!
