To visit the Alhambra Palace in Spain, you need to be very organised and buy your tickets in advance and make sure you arrive early to see the Nazri Palace and gardens. It is worth the effort and like a scene from Game of Thrones. On our first attempt to enter the Alhambra Palace, the tickets are sold out and it was raining so the second attempt we bought our tickets in advance and treated ourselves to a Hotel! We try a traditional Andalucian breakfast of tostada and then head off to the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. When we arrive we did not realise it takes 15 minutes to get to the entrance to the Nazri Palace and you have a time allocated on your ticket which you have to stick to. So we run! Inside the Nazri Palace, there are many rooms , each with a different purpose for the 24 sultans that were living there with their wives and families. Not all sultans died a natural death however. After the Moors left peacefully and Ferdinand and Isabella moved in, it was here that the voyage of Christopher Columbus was endorsed which led to him landing in the Americas. The "Generalife" is separated from the main palace, it was a summer palace where a wide variety of vegetables and fruit were grown and it was a place to relax in the beautiful gardens. Water was a symbol of power as it was scarce but the whole palace had plenty, supplied by a natural river source that even had enough pressure to keep the fountains going. We wandered past the Medina which was another whole city within the palace walls where arts and crafts were made as gifts to the court and other visitors. The Alcazaba was the tower that contained the military lodgings and around the edge of the wall was yet another garden of Italian style. It is unbelievable how many gardens there are in the citadel. From the top of the tower, you get a spectacular view of the city of Grenada. This is where the bell tower is situated and great place to spot any enemies but the bell was also a way to notify the city of when to initiate the next shift for irrigating the crops. The Alhambra Palace is well worth a visit, it reminded of a scene of Game of Thrones and we could see why they chose locations in Spain to film this series such as The Bridge at Cordoba as shown in our last episode. In this episode the Parlay Revival crew sail their hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 from Curacao, to Aruba, where they go on the hunt for waves, and score a few days of fun surf in the north of the island! While there they also dive on an old shipwreck called the "Antilles". But always learning, they mistakenly anchor a little too close to the surf, which rolls them around for a while before snapping their anchor bridal, where they are forced to relocate a little further away from the surf. They then prepare for their longest passage to date, to Colombia!! SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Here, dragons are real, giant peaceful aliens swim in the water and the coral is so healthy it hides tiny creatures we'd never seen before. Our friend Sara came to join us on this adventure, and what an adventure it was. We took her on her first ever snorkel and and got up close and personal with huge manta rays. On an early morning hike we found real, live dragons. Komodo dragons that is. Oh, and she and Amy managed to tackle a boat project as well. What an awesome guest! Komodo was also special for us as we finally caught up to our friends on s/v Field Trip. They were the first cruisers we ever met and were a huge source of inspiration for us as we planned our own adventures. It was just one more example of how even though the world can feel like a huge place, it really is quite small. We've learnt our lesson to not make too many plans in advance now as it can cost you! We prepare the boat and then embark on our road trip. This week we find it sad that we can't live on the boat and go sailing but look forward to what's to come in The Mediterranean Sea. We set sail from Pancake Creek to Bundaberg and catch a couple nice sized Spanish Mackerel. After restocking our supplies in Bundaberg, we meet up with Robert's family. We explored the Bundy Rum factory and the following morning set sail to Hervey Bay catching a couple tuna along the way. After a day relaxing, we head down the Great Sandy Straights inside Fraser Island to Kingfisher Bay Resort.

Seit Sommer 2018 genießen sie das Blauwassersegeln und erleben so einige unvergessliche Abenteuer auf eigene Faust. Wir haben uns mit ihnen über Telefon unterhalten und sind von einem Thema ins nächste gekommen. Unter Anderem erzählen sie uns von ihrer Art zu Reisen und welche Vorteile das Segeln mit sich bringt und wie sie sich diese Reise überhaupt leisten können und sie finanzieren. Mittlerweile bereiten sie sich auf ihre zweite Atlantiküberquerung vor, denn es geht wieder zurück Richtung Europa. This week on SV Dreamchaser, we completed the installation of the repaired coach house port. If you recall, last week we prepared the surfaces, this week we clean and bed the glass into the opening. I also came up to New Jersey to help out my dad by taking him to his scheduled surgery. We are expecting almost a week in the hospital then back home. While here, I am staying at my dad's house that he built himself.
