On 11 April 2019, the 23-metre chase boat, called Stargazer, was launched at our sister company Claasen Shipyards in the Netherlands. This large classic lined motorboat, intended as a tender for a sailing superyacht, is a unique concept. One of the key tasks of this vessel is to get guests and owner from ashore to the yacht in comfort and to visit shallow diving areas. During this project, the Dutch shipyards Vitters and Claasen combined their efforts to build this motorboat. It is the first time the two sister companies worked together on a new build project. The yacht was built to superyacht standards as far as performance, finish, styling, details and technical installations are concerned. The lightweight aluminium hull was built in the Netherlands and all technical installations and joinery work have been executed by the Dutch shipyards. The concept of the yacht is designed around several purposes the yacht needs to fulfil: • To transport guests from shore to mothership. • To serve as a diving platform that goes into small lagoons and shallow areas where people can comfortably go in and out of the water using a large swim platform in the stern that forms steps underwater when deployed. • To be able to hold extra stores onboard. • To accommodate extra crew or guests in the three cabins onboard the yacht. The owner wanted the boat to have a Pacific range, meaning she is able to be powered by engines underway for 750 miles at cruising speed. The boat was designed with two 925 hp SCANIA engines to drive fixed propellers for a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top speed of 25 knots.

Full details: https://www.oceansailingpodcast.com/picton-to-southport-20 Crossing the Tasman Sea is one of the most revered ocean crossings on the planet. With nothing but open ocean from the bottom of Australia/New Zealand to Antartica; 1,000nm to the south, the ocean swell can build in height with no land to stop it for more than 2,500nm until it hits the shores of the Pacific Islands. There many reasons why more people have climbed Mount Everest than have sailed across the Tasman Sea and the rapidly changing nature of the Tasman Sea's weather system is one of them. I have crossed the Tasman Sea five times (two solo) on Ocean Gem, the keys to success include waiting for the weather window, downloading live weather en-route and sailing a vessel thats easy to mode for all wind and swell conditions. Despite its reputation for extreme conditions, the Tasman Sea is easy to cross safely if you stay clear of the winter storm season (late May to August) and wait for a safe weather window. It’s an absolute bucket-list voyage and a hugely satisfying personal achievement. We'll depart Picton and spend the first 12-16 hours getting clear of the South Island Coast, before setting a NW course toward Southport on Queensland's Gold Coast. The sea life, milky way, phosphorescence and tranquility of crossing an ocean and seeing no other vessels for the bulk of the voyage, really make this a special sailing experience. fter taking possession of the new to us Nordhavn 56 Motorsailer and getting her all ready to go, we leave the dock in Florida and head south toward the Panama Canal. Our plan was do go from Tampa Florida to Colon Panama, a distance of roughly 1200 nautical miles in one long passage - weather allowing. We did make it all on once passage and try to share the experience in this video. The strangest thing that happened on this passage is that we got boarded by people that were likely Nicaraguan military, although they did not behave at all as if they had professional military training. They would not let us take down our sails, rammed into the side of our boat several times, and shook us down for “gifts” before finally leaving. They were basically thugs with uniforms - some might even say pirates. We managed to capture on video the incredibly crazy maneuvers of the boat operator and the boarding party when they finally left. There are images of killing fish so for anyone who doesn’t want to see it - please skip ahead. Step 1: Demolition! When we first bought Avocet, she checked off all the things we wanted in a boat except 1: having a shower stall. Chris assured me that we would have enough room to build our own, but once we got into it we realized that not everything was how it seemed. Our plans changed slightly but we are so happy with the result! So sit back, crack open a cold one and enjoy laughing at our trials and triumphs- mostly trials in this video. We can't wait to share the rebuild with you in part 2! http://svavocet.com

Hi guys! And welcome to yet another day of “no we haven’t left the dock and we’re bummed out about it” We have been spending an entire month and a half maintaining and upgrading our boat. And although it is really satisfying to see Polar Seal turning into a self sufficient Ocean beast, the process has been hard! The few upgrades that we had decided to do to Polar Seal turned into a small refit, and while we watch our friends leave the marina, we keep on grinding at the dock. Rigging and Launching Your Kite From A Boat (with Ryan Levinson) This video shows one technique for rigging and launching a kite from a boat. In this example we are launching from a catamaran (sailboat) but this technique also works well when launching from dinghies, powerboats, or really anywhere that you have limited space to rig but plenty of water to ride. WARNING: Rigging and launching from a boat is an advanced skill. Do not attempt this unless you have the experience needed to understand the risks and you have the skills needed to mitigate them. Failure to do so could result in severe injury or death. In other words, try this at your own risk! https://cabrinhakites.com https://adventuresportsusa.com/ https://www.npsurf.com/ https://www.facebook.com/ryanlevinson https://www.youtube.com/twoafloatsailing Notes: Preparing Your Lines Unwind the lines off your bar by flaking them in a pile. “Flaking” means to lay down the lines in a long back-and-forth pattern so the lines avoid becoming tangled. Wind the lines back onto your bar while separating them from each other like you would when you rig on the beach. Leave enough line unwound from the bar to prevent the bar from being moved when you attach the lines to the kite. Separate the lines all the way to the end then either lay the ends down in a place where they will not get moved or attach the lines to something. For example, you can tie them to the boat’s lifelines. Rigging the Kite To inflate the kite just secure the leading edge like you would on the beach, flop the kite in the water, and inflate. Take care to keep water out of the valves. Attach the lines like you would on the beach but be careful to attach the lines in an order that prevents the lines from crossing each other. This is most common thing that people get wrong. Make sure the attached lines are kept between the wingtips and on the bladder side of the canopy from the time they are attached until the kite is launched. Launching the Kite Place the kite in the water with the leading edge “down” and upwind and with the lines placed between between the wingtips. Grab one of the front lines and make sure it is always much more tensioned then the rest of the lines until all the lines are unwound from the bar. This will keep the kite de-powered and orientated correctly. Allow the kite to drift away while you unwind the lines making sure to keep one of the front lines under much more tension than any other line. When all the lines are unwound, and the kite has drifted as far away as possible, release the front line you’ve been keeping under tension and water launch the kite as normal. It is MUCH safer to do this step with your bar connected to a line (rope) that is attached to your boat rather than having the bar hooked into your harness. You can put a carabiner on the line to make it easy to connect to your harness loop. If you’re using a Fireball system you can use a small carabiner clipped to the tendon above the ball. For additional safety you can attach (clip) another line to the leash connection so the kite will flag if it is released. Tips: It is easier and much safer to have a friend help. When you’re winding the lines back onto the bar be careful to keep the bar always facing the same direction or you will put twists into the lines. When the lines are wound on the bar make sure you lay the bar down “upside down” if it will be positioned upwind from the kite as shown in this video. This will ensure the colorful end of the bar will be in your left hand once the kite is launched (as normal for Cabrinha bars). If you accidentally lay the bar “right side up” don’t stress, just remember the colorful end will be in your right hand instead (and the pigtail colors will not match the colors of the line ends when you attach the back lines) When you unwind your lines as the kite drifts away take care to keep all the lines unwinding at the same time from the bar (while still keeping more tension on one front line). If you keep tension on the left front line as the kite drifts away it will drift to the right and vice versa.

How do we prepare our small sailboat to cross an ocean? Since our boat is a SAILboat, the sails are a VERY critical element and tool for us and we need to make sure they are in good shape! Come see what’s involved with inspecting and re-stitching our sails and inspecting the rigging. ________________ We hope you enjoy our videos and adventures.

Jetzt geht unser Weg weiter richtung Westen. Win a week onboard Finding Avalon and gain access to bonus content and live Q&As! ~https://www.patreon.com/findingavalon First of all - an apology - we (/Xanthe) broke the GoPro so we've had to revert to the GoPro 3 for the next couple of episodes that follow. Picture quality not ideal and audio shocking. Bear with us; we bought a new one immediately so quality will be back to original in a couple of episodes time. We honestly wouldn't have been able to buy a new one without OUR PATRONS so THANK YOU so many times over. This week is our last week in the BVIs (sad) and we spend some of it rescuing boats from sandbars (sadder). Sailing to the breathtaking islands of Anegada, Guana and Jost Van Dyke; many events unfold. We also get to hang out with two of our Aussie mates who are also doing the whole cruising back to Australia thing. Thanks for watching guys. If you liked it, please give us a thumbs up and leave a lovely comment. We post every Sunday! So if you’d like to see us every week, why not subscribe. This annual event offers sailors a chance to enjoy great racing and superb Southern hospitality. With race headquarters at the Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina in Mt. Pleasant, this three-day regatta offers fabulous beach parties each evening and competitive racing in the harbor and offshore. Charleston Race Week offers sailors an affordable, dynamic and fun race week experience. The three days of racing will prove to be tricky as local winds and currents can upset a traditional strategic approach. Whether racing inshore or offshore, the conditions and fronts that roll through the Lowcountry in April will challenge the best skippers and tacticians. Music: Sail by AWOLNATION For information on Charleston sail charters with The Sailing Force visit www.thesailingforce.com Thank you for watching and let us know what you think!

I'm getting close to Nova Scotia but first I have to sail across a famous and infamous piece of water- the Grand Banks. Fog, Fishing, & Ferocious seas are this area's advertised hallmarks but for me it ends up being one of the most interesting and enjoyable parts of the trip. Caution however must be exercised as the voyage is drawing to a close and the easiest mistake to make now would be over confidence leading to over powering the boat and breaking something important. Who is the Mariner? My name is Chris Stanmore-Major better known as CSM. I have over 300,000Nm experience in racing, cruising & expedition sailing and have raced twice around the world. I sailed solo around the world in the Velux 5 Oceans Race in 2011 (in Falcon's sister ship) becoming the 182nd person ever to circumnavigate alone. This channel is for sailors of all skill levels and backgrounds. My passion is seamanship & self reliance and helping others realize their sailing dreams on their own boats - whatever size or shape of craft that may be. If you find this video interesting Please Like & Subscribe! Your support really helps the channel grow!
