Both frontrunners had difficult moments. The Swiss GC32 World Champions were off form in today’s first two races, leaving them trailing Oman Air by two points. However showing their typical relentlessness, Alinghi won the next three races.

This Dufour 382 has 5 possible layouts for, probably, every taste. I particularly like the option for a side to side seating area and how they use the double doors into the forward cabin to make it an extension of the saloon. I am NOT in any way AFFILIATED with Dufour yachts. A world where the wind decides in which bay you throw your anchor for the night, just to wake up to the next priceless sunrise. Now, imagine reducing all your belongings to the most essential things, so they fit on a home less than 11 meters long. With not much to worry about and time to reflect on the meaning of life while enjoying peaceful nights under sail at sea. Would you give up the comfort of your house for this? The choice seems simple. Well, life on a sailboat is like that, but there’s more. 80% of the time, living aboard a floating home is hard work. Work you don’t get paid for, quite the opposite. Things break all the time, and you need time and money to keep the ship maintained and safe for all those sunsets you chase. And if you found yourself on the wrong side of the island, when the weather hits you, just try to get some sleep... This week we give you a tour of our so called Floating Tiny Home on the water! This is the final DAILY video installment of our 1,500 nautical mile journey south from Hampton, Virginia to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. Unfortunately the final night saw us sailing into a Tropical Wave that brought lightning filled squalls, the biggest of which we sailed into right as we arrived near Tortola. We'll have to get through that last storm to reach paradise. I hope you've enjoyed these clips. We tried to show what it's really like sailing with kids off-shore. It can be tough for everyone involved, but worth it in the end. Please leave a comment and tell us what you thought! POSTING DAILY ON SOCIAL: https://www.instagram.com/the_sailing_family/ https://www.facebook.com/the-sailing-family-voyage/ ----------------- ABOUT US: WE ARE THE SAILING FAMILY! Welcome aboard. We are a family of five sailing around the world on our "dream boat," a performance catamaran named "Archer." Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named "Honeymoon" halfway around the world from the East Coast of the US to Sydney, Australia. Along the way we shared our experiences with family and friends via YouTube, and by happenstance created the first "sailing channel." But more than anything, we realized what an incredible experience that first trip was and that someday we wanted to do it again, only this time with our kids. We want to share with them the importance of taking time to be with family. To show them a world outside of the one they grew up in. We want them to appreciate how lucky we are to experience (and to care for) the natural beauty of this world. But mostly we want to spend time with our kids during these formative years and create lasting memories as a family. That's why we are "The Sailing Family." ABOUT EACH OF US: SETH learned to sail with his family on Lake St. Clair, Michigan when he was 12. Later in life he raced on multiple one-design boats in the San Francisco Bay and in Cape Cod. But the dream of sailing around the world really took hold during a bareboat vacation to the BVIs with his family when he saw other cruisers living and traveling full time aboard their sailboats. All he needed now was a willing partner and co-captain! In 2008, Seth & Elizabeth got married and for their honeymoon they bought a boat, named her "Honeymoon" and the rest is history! ELIZABETH was new to sailing when they started off, but she's always loved to travel. 25,000 nautical miles later she is now an accomplished sailor, and despite being prone to seasickness, she values the experiences she can share with her boys. During their first trip she came up with the idea of Vacay, a resort-wear clothing brand perfect for sailors as all her items are designed to mix-and-match to create multiple looks. 5 items can create up to 15 outfits! It's been so successful that she quit her job at GAP Inc and now works full-time from the boat to build her business. Check out www.vacaystyle.com and support her if you can. OUR BOYS were a little reluctant to leave our home in Mill Valley, CA, but now that we are in the groove we plan to keep going. They miss their friends but also appreciate the life experiences they are gaining. Hale loves baseball, Rhys is our Lego engineer and Pierce's nickname is "Pierce-Fierce" (as we think he's been raised by wolves). They're great kids and best friends, which makes living on a boat with them a true joy. OUR BOAT is a Ferrari red 2014 Outremer 51 performance cruising catamaran. We chose this boat as it has been specifically designed for the purpose of bluewater sailing. It was designed and built to withstand the stress of sailing multiple times around the world safely and in comfort. It's also a speed demon, which is important when you want to cover large distances of water before the weather changes. Lastly, it's backed by the manufacturer with outstanding customer service and aftermarket support, so we believe she will hold her value well. And, she's nice on the eyes too. OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal. At the time of posting this we are dealing with a repair in the South Pacific, and in 2020 we hope to be in New Zealand and Southeast Asia. By 2021 we will be in the Med and close to completing our circumnavigation. THANKS for watching all. Please leave a comment to tell us what you think and let us know if you have questions. With temperature's rising, mother nature is giving us all the signs that it's time to head north! We enjoy a lovely sail across the North East Providence Channel, between Eleuthera and the Abacos, pulled along by our large, colorful spinnaker. With the fifty miles sail completed we explore beautiful Hopetown. We start analyzing weather patterns for or big jump up to Canada, paying close attention to the Bermuda high placement and the frequency of low pressures coming off the States. Taking a break from the weather, a late afternoon spearfishing excursion yields our largest catch of the season, a 30+ inch Dog Snapper. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Thanks to our Patrons! Enjoying our channel? Day of the Star North American Championship brought more action to the fleet on the Seaside Race Course. New winners in races 3 and 4 and several breakdowns from favorites meant a big shake up on the leaderboard as we learn about the lucky garage sale that made this regatta happen and what it takes to sail a Star boat successfully.
What does Star sailing and Hatchet throwing have in common?! Find out as we visit one of the main sponsors of the event and meet some of the top crews of the fleet.

Building a cruising sailboat I'm working towards getting the boat closed up for the coming colder weather, so, after the forward hatch last week, it's the turn of the main entrance hatchway. The vertical opening of the companionway hatch is framed up ready for the washboards. Also, the deck boxes are sealed in where they led into the cabin area and the deck stringers are filleted and sealed. The boat is constructed of exterior quality plywood, sealed with epooxy and sheathed in glass fibre and epoxy. One of the great beauties of these boats is that the ballast keel is fitted towards the end of the build, enabling the boat to be kept lower in the shed for most of the construction time. The keel and rudder are fitted shortly before launch. Thank you! Tony
After a hair raising exit from the pass in Maupiti we finally left French Polynesia headed for Palmerston Atoll. Two days into our passage we realised the beautiful Cook Island, Aitutaki was not far off our course so we decided to divert and explore what Aitutaki had to offer. Even though it was tricky to find a sandy spot to anchor outside the reef (the passage into the lagoon is only 1.5m deep, our boat is 2m draft so no way were we attempting that) once settled we were free to explore the wonders of Aituitaki - famous for having one of the largest and most beautiful lagoons in the world! We were not disappointed, not only is Aitutaki stunningly beautiful it also has strong links with NZ meaning we could finally buy some of our favourite foods - pies, sausage rolls, jelly tip ice cream and Whittakers chocolate just to name a few! We were also treated to nightly visits from whales in our anchorage and had the most amazing dive directly below our boat - incredible! This unexpected stop turned out to be one of the Pacific's highlights for the Nikau crew. We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau. We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day! We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand. We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures! We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have? Thanks and enjoy.
