De la Savoie sous la neige ❄️ à la Méditerranée turquoise, notre voyage en voilier commence fort… avec un train qu’on a bien failli rater 😅 Après un vol depuis Genève vers Catane, puis 2 heures de bus, nous retrouvons enfin notre voilier MAX 2 à Licata, en Sicile, où il a passé l’hiver. Préparation du bateau, ravitaillement et attente d’une fenêtre météo : la grande vie de marin ⛵. Notre position au sud de la Sicile nous donne une idée : ➡️ faire un détour par Malte 🇲🇹 Premier mouillage à Dwejra Bay, un site spectaculaire. La houle persistante nous pousse ensuite à nous abriter au port de Mgarr (oui, on aime notre confort). On en profite pour ressortir nos vélos 🚲 et explorer Gozo : Rabat, Xagħra, Ramla Bay… Cap ensuite sur Comino et son célèbre Blue Lagoon, avant un mouillage sur Malte à Hi Hofra Zghra, toujours bercés par la houle 🌊 Puis direction La Valette, coup de foudre total pour cette capitale aux influences anglaises : bow windows, co-cathédrale Saint-Jean, Upper Barrakka Gardens, fontaine des Tritons, auberge de Castille… ❤️ Après 10 jours hors du temps, nous quittons Malte pour une traversée de 120 milles nautiques vers la Sicile, direction Sciacca. The camera gear finally gave up the ghost. It’s dead. New kit is on order, but that’s the reality of a DIY operation—sometimes the tech fails before the spirit does. ​Beyond the dead pixels, we’ve been in the trenches with Bella. Our pup’s dealing with a pinched nerve and a rough back, so we’ve been focused on getting her back on her feet. Add in the quiet of an empty nest and a much-needed tactical reset, and we’ve been "off-grid" for a minute. ​We haven’t forgotten you. Pour cette version longue de 47 minutes, je suis allé rencontrer Jean Louis Étienne chez lui, pour une conversation posée, à hauteur de table à cartes. Il déroule son sillage de navigateur, depuis ses premières traversées sans GPS, au point sextant, jusqu’aux projets polaires d’aujourd’hui. On parle du Bel Espoir et du Rara Avis avec le père Jaouen, de Pen Duick VI, le ketch d’Éric Tabarly, et de cette longue navigation dans le Pacifique avec Titouan Lamazou, Philippe Poupon, Olivier Petit. On évoque aussi Alain Colas, Bernard Moitessier, Jacques Brel croisé aux Marquises, et cette époque où la météo arrivait par la radio, quand elle voulait bien. Incluso podemos simular la escora y ver el barco navegando antes de volver al mar. También entramos de lleno en uno de los trabajos más importantes del proyecto: la sustitución completa de la jarcia. Con la nueva plataforma de SVB podemos configurar cables a medida, elegir diámetros y terminales, y combinar extremos prensados con terminales desmontables para ajustar longitudes con total precisión y sin depender de terceros. ‘Starlight’ is a 2007 Catalina 309, listed exclusively for sale with YOTI in Sydney. https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/catalina-309-starlight A highly successful and proven cruising yacht, ‘Starlight’ offers an excellent layout and presents in fantastic condition. Catalina yachts are well known for their generous space and volume both on deck and below, and the 309 is a standout model in the range. It delivers an enjoyable sailing experience—clearly shown in our video—while remaining comfortable and practical for day sailing or spending a few nights onboard. Although branded as a 309, the yacht has a length overall of 32.75ft, making her a very manageable size without compromising on interior space. On deck, the sail plan is simple and easy to handle, featuring an in-mast furling mainsail in good condition and a furling headsail, making getting underway quick and stress-free. The yacht is also equipped with a lightly used asymmetric spinnaker. The cockpit is a real highlight, with full-length cockpit cushions, raised aft seating ideal for entertaining extra guests, and a relaxed, sociable layout. Down below, ‘Starlight’ offers a comfortable two-cabin layout with a double berth forward and a double aft to starboard. The saloon and galley spaces are surprisingly generous, creating an inviting area for cooking, dining, and relaxing. The saloon table can be lowered to form an additional berth if you were to get the appropriate legs and cushions for that setup. Refrigeration is excellent for a boat of this size, with a large side-opening Waeco fridge with freezer section, plus an additional cool box. Power comes from a well-maintained Yanmar 20hp engine with just 471 hours, most recently serviced in January 2026. The yacht has spent the majority of her life on Sydney Harbour and, in current ownership, has been kept on a dock berth, making ongoing maintenance and upkeep straightforward. In recent years, ‘Starlight’ has benefited from numerous upgrades, including a new battery bank, new Jabsco toilet, boom tent, EPIRB, fenders and mooring lines, cockpit table, wheel and instrument covers, new anchor and chain, LED lighting conversion, and other continual improvements.
