We set sail from beautiful Orpheus Island and made our way out to John Brewer Reef, one of the most unique spots on the Great Barrier Reef. Picking up a mooring right on the reef, we had front-row access to crystal-clear aquamarine water, vibrant coral, and an underwater experience like no other – the Museum of Underwater Art (MOUA). Snorkelling around the sculptures was both surreal and breathtaking, with marine life weaving through the artwork, making it feel like nature and art had become one. Add to that some incredible reef scenery, sunshine, and perfect conditions – and this was an unforgettable stop that truly lived up to the hype. The winds aligned with Jupiter and Mars while leaving the sun shining in the bright sky. This was truly a rare event, where our son Ben, his wife Alicia, and our four grandchildren, with Monica up from Florida, and Reed, were all able to join us for a day of sailing. The winds were the right strength and from the right direction to allow us to make the lighthouse run. This is a nice sail crossing the Chesapeake Bay and going south on Maryland’s Eastern Shore to round the Hooper Island Lighthouse and back again. This is a nice day sail and provides a destination rather than sailing randomly back and forth. We leave Puteri Harbour and make our way back through the busy Singapore Strait, dodging countless cargo ships and fast ferries along the way. Join Chris Beeson for a sailing review of the Sirius Yachts 35DS. The first Sirius 35 DS (DS for deck saloon) was delivered by the boutique German yard, Sirius Yachts, in 2010. We tested the just-launched hull #81 seen at the 2025 Southampton International Boat Show, and it’s likely no two are the same. There are seven different keel configurations, two-, four- and six-berth layouts. The midships berth can be an office, the technical room - a genius space designed to make maintenance a doddle - has even been converted to a sauna for one owner. The layout can be what you want it to be.

What makes Sirius Yachts stand out, however, is the attention to detail: this is clearly a yacht designed and built by people who go cruising a lot and come up with solutions when they find something that annoys them. We could make another video and still not cover everything that stands out about this yacht. Fastidiously and robustly built (cored above the waterline and areas over 40mm of solid laminate below), with the storage of a much larger yacht, this brand makes boats that their owners appreciate as second homes. Fifteen years after first testing it, Chris Beeson is still hugely impressed.

It's time to say goodbye or better yet until we meet again. The people at Vuda Marina were helpful and so kind. The weather was hot but not unbearable. We saw many of the villages between Denarau and Lautoka. We are a loving meal cooked underground. We got our rudder fixed and now we are sailing towards Vanuatu. Sota tale Fiji!

France Triumphs at 2025 Offshore Double Handed World Championships After days of high-stakes offshore racing, dramatic twists, and an unforgettable finale, the 2025 Offshore Double Handed World Championships reached its conclusion in Cowes. Across the championship, 21 teams representing 14 nations lined up to compete, with 11 crews from four continents qualifying for the 114nm Final. In light and tactical conditions, France’s Théa Khelif and Thomas André (FRA 1) mastered the shifting breeze to be crowned World Champions. Taking the runner-up spot after a thrilling finish were Great Britain’s Willow Bland & Zeb Fellows (GBR 2), Zeb was the youngest sailor at the worlds, just 18 years of age. Domi Knuppel & Federico Waksman (URU) proudly securing third place — Uruguay’s first podium at this level. The Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC), in collaboration with Cap-Regatta and supported by LGL and Jeanneau, hosted this World Sailing-recognised championship in supplied Sun Fast 30 One Design yachts. The fleet representing nations across five continents showcased the diversity and rising talent of the discipline, with mixed-gender crews ranging from Olympians and offshore veterans to youth sailors making their first impact on the world stage. With strong winds and big seas on the way, we set sail from Porto Pollo bound for Ajaccio — the capital of Corsica and birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte. As we approach, the wind builds to over 30 knots, giving us a wild welcome before we find shelter in the port that will be our home for the week. While waiting out the weather, we explore the city, visit the local chandleries, tackle some much-needed maintenance including restoring our teak decks, and treat ourselves to a brand-new drone to capture future adventures from above.
