Our livestream seems lost in youtube wonderland but we recorded all the footage locally during the race. After pondering what to do with 115 hours of footage it I decided on this 60x timelapse which compresses each hour down to 1 minute. I don't expect people to actually watch this obviously but scrubbing through it is certainly fun. The video plays at 60fps which helps preserve some detail. Unfortunately stringing that many clips together, the tacks didn't quite line up with the gps track at the end but I gave up trying to fix that. I also added a "tack counter" and the wind vector arrow being displayed is a 1hour average of the data I got from the race which greatly smooths it out. Enjoy.
Nach vier Wochen in Havanna setzen wir wieder die Segel. Einige hundert Seemeilen entlang der fast menschenleeren Westküste bis in den Süden liegen vor. Anders als noch vor vier Wochen sehen wir kaum noch Fischerboote. Auch den Fischern ist wegen des Ölembargos der Diesel ausgegangen. Bei einem Stopp in Los Morros schauen wir, ob die vergessene Crew des Grenzpostens endlich abgeholt wurde. Als wir nach knapp 400 Seemeilen die Isla de la Juventud, die Insel der Jugend, an der Südseite Kubas erreichten, sind wir erschöpft. Auch wenn wir den größten Teil der Strecke herrlich Segeln konnten, hatten es die letzten Meilen in sich.

Il cosiddetto "decreto anti-maranza" (DL 23/2026), in vigore dal 25 febbraio 2026, ha introdotto restrizioni molto più severe sul porto di oggetti da taglio, rendendo l'uso dei comuni multitool e coltellini svizzeri fuori casa estremamente rischioso dal punto di vista legale. Ecco i punti chiave della nuova normativa: Cosa cambia per i multitool e i coltellini dopo il decreto "anti maranza" ?? Lama superiore a 5 cm: È ora vietato portare fuori dalla propria abitazione (o pertinenze) coltellini con lama pieghevole superiore a 5 centimetri se dotati di meccanismo di blocco o se apribili con una sola mano. Assenza di licenza: Questi oggetti sono ora assimilati ad armi per le quali non è ammessa licenza di porto. Giustificato motivo: Mentre prima la legge del 1975 permetteva il porto con un "giustificato motivo" (es. andare a funghi, campeggio), la nuova norma è molto più stringente e specifica, riducendo drasticamente i margini di interpretazione per chi usa questi strumenti per hobby o necessità quotidiane. Sanzioni e Rischi Il porto ingiustificato di questi strumenti può ora comportare conseguenze penali pesanti: Reclusione: Da 1 a 3 anni di carcere. Sanzioni accessorie: Possibile sospensione della patente di guida o della licenza di porto d'armi. Minorenni: Il decreto prevede l'ammonimento del questore per i minori dai 12 ai 14 anni sorpresi con strumenti vietati. Si possono ancora usare? In casa: L'acquisto e la detenzione all'interno della propria abitazione rimangono legittimi per i maggiorenni. Fuori casa: L'uso è fortemente sconsigliato a meno che non si tratti di modelli con lame molto corte (sotto i 5 cm) e privi di blocchi, o che non si possa dimostrare una necessità professionale o sportiva immediata e documentabile, sebbene il rischio di contestazione rimanga alto. This new video is the completion of us putting our interior salon back together! Some things that made the job extra tricky because of where we are: 1. FORMICA is something we needed to bring to the boat, as it is NOT sold in MEXICO. The Formica for this job was driven to the boat a YEAR earlier in prep for what was to come. We needed to order a router and special bits that could cut the Formica too. Travis has a full workshop in Texas, and my dad (mom) does too...so it was always a thought of "if only we were back in TEXAS"...LOL. The Formica...measure 10x and cut 1x. We felt it, and Travis did a brilliant job! 2. We did not label all pieces of wood trim that needed labeling, which made the putting it all back together all the more laborsome. 3. The furring strips on the starboard side needed redoing entirely, because that side the originals were rotten. Travis and I...learned a new skill we did not know we needed. Who knew! 4. All of those teak pieces of trim needed and indeed cut cut exactly to their new shape (old chainplates were slightly smaller in all directions!). This...took more time too. 5. The material for the ceiling was also brought to the boat a year before...it is foam backed vinyl! A wonderful wonderful material and it was so easy to use and install! (We bought it on Amazon!). WE WILL get this boat of ours launched and under sail soon...we certainly did not know we were buying such a project boat when we did, but one day she will be as perfect as she can be, and we will bask in the glow of an a job well done, and stories to tell!
