Zoé crosses the Atlantic Ocean! 20 days at sea from Mindelo, Cape Verde to Martinique, sailing 2200 nautical miles. Long-distance sailing adventure on the open ocean. In this episode, we sail from Mindelo, Cape Verde to the Caribbean island of Martinique, covering 2200 nautical miles over 20 days at sea. This was our longest long-distance sailing adventure so far. We didn’t expect the calm, windless days, which could have let us finish the crossing 2 days earlier-but that’s life at sea. Out on the open ocean, the sea is always in charge. 🌊 If you enjoy our videos and would like to support us, please consider joining our Patreon crew for real-time updates and exclusive contents, or support us on Ko-fi with a one-time donation. This wasn’t the plan. We were supposed to retire and sail off to quiet, palm fringed islands where warm breezes drift through the rigging and the only agenda is deciding which anchorage looks prettiest. But that’s the price of cruising with a timetable—life has a way of reminding you who’s really in charge. A handful of unexpected health issues surfaced, forcing us to change course. Now the priority is getting ourselves patched up so we can get back to the retirement we envisioned. Even so, life hasn’t been all that bad. We’re living at Fernandina Harbor Marina—Front and Center—and making the most of it while we work through these challenges. In this episode, we share where things stand and offer a glimpse of what day to day life looks like here in Fernandina Beach. Getting older isn’t always fun, but it sure beats the alternative. Our journey continues, and we invite you to subscribe and share the adventure! Below deck, the cabins are flooded with natural light thanks to large hull glazing. #AD This video is in collaboration with International Yacht Paint by AkzoNobel. What we thought would be a quick haul-out for maintenance quickly turned into something much bigger. From sanding the hull and dropping the rudder to installing a new cutless bearing and repainting the bottom, this boatyard visit turned into a full project. In this episode we tackle one of the most important jobs on any sailboat — antifouling the hull. Before we head off to remote Indonesia, we wanted to make sure Stella is fully prepared for warm tropical waters where marine growth builds quickly. To protect the hull we’re applying Micron 99 antifoul paint from International Yacht Paint, along with Primocon primer, as part of their full yacht coatings system designed to provide long-lasting protection below the waterline. Join us as we prep the hull, apply the primer, and roll on the antifoul to get Stella ready to splash and begin our next sailing adventure. We’re only a few days away from putting Stella back in the water, so stay tuned for the splash and our upcoming expedition sailing through Indonesia. --- International Yacht Paint (Asia Pacific): https://www.yachtpaint.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/intlyachtpaintap/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/InternationalYachtPaintAsiaPacific 💙 A huge thank you to everyone supporting us on Patreon — you truly help make this sailboat life possible. We depart Sandakan heading further east, enjoying a beautiful sail and even landing a delicious Spanish mackerel along the way before anchoring overnight behind Tambisan Island. Setting off early the next morning, we round the easternmost tip of Borneo and pass through one of the most sensitive regions, close to the Philippines. Under the watchful eye of ESSCOM, who escort us and ensure our safety, we continue along the eastern peninsula with confidence. Arriving in Lahad Datu, we refuel using our fuel bladders for the first time and stock up at the well-supplied local markets. As we depart, we sail past the anchored officials with sirens sounding and horns blasting—a lively send-off—before making a short day sail to W Bay. This leg comes with some very special guests onboard. The lovely ladies from Tourism Malaysia join us on No Regrets, drawing plenty of curious attention from nearby boats eager to come in for a closer look! Along the way, we introduce them to a true Australian classic—Vegemite. To our surprise, they seemed to enjoy it… or at least did a very convincing job of making us believe they did! At W Bay, we’re welcomed with another fantastic rally dinner and genuine local hospitality. We spend the next few days diving some of the best coral and fish life we’ve seen in Malaysia so far, all in crystal-clear water. We wrap up this incredible stretch sailing past the Blue Hole, capturing some stunning drone footage, before arriving at Gading Gading—where, once again, we’re greeted with warm smiles and another memorable rally dinner. WHO ARE WE? Hey there! We’re Chris and Jo, an ordinary Aussie couple living our extraordinary dream aboard our Seawind 1260 since January 2019 and now we continue from 2024 aboard our new 1370! Our adventure began with an unforgettable journey down the east coast of Australia, followed by a sail to the stunning New Caledonia. In 2020, we continued our exploration further north, and by 2021 and 2022, we circumnavigated Australia, discovering breathtaking locations along the way. Having previously owned fishing and water-skiing boats, our passion for sailing deepened after crewing in South Australia, leading us to make the leap into full-time living at sea. We hope to inspire you, just as we were inspired by other YouTube channels, to chase your dreams and explore the wonders of this beautiful world.

Approaching inclement weather sends me into the sheltered waters of Cuttyhunk Pond. The narrow dredged channel, however, presents a challenge to the engineless boat, for tacking is not possible hence a fair wind is a must. Meanwhile, two major hurricanes are churning up the North Atlantic, but are forecast to move on soon, opening up a southbound sailing window. In this video we do a deep dive into the different voltage options for off grid installations on Boats or RV's. With all the hype around 48V these days it is good to have a down to earth look at the different options and their pros and Cons. In short we can say: 12V best for simple installations with a maximum inverter size of 3000W 24V A happy medium for installations that have larger DC loads which can run on 24V and medium sized inverters up to 10.000W 48V The best if you are having huge DC loads like electric propulsion engines or want to run huge inverter loads. Often used in home battery storage systems or (hybrid) electric boats. Want to help us out? #boatfoolssailing #williamtripp #sailing #sailboatforsale #barnfind Only 15 Made — We Found One for $39K | LeComte Northeast 38 MKII TOUR Ahoy BoatFools Nation! Every once in a while, a boat shows up that stops us in our tracks. This is one of those boats. Canadian Ken and I were tipped off to what can only be described as a true barn find — a 1966 LeComte Northeast 38 MKII, owned by the same family for more than 20 years and now quietly coming to market. And here’s the kicker… Only 15 of these Mark II models were ever built. Designed by legendary naval architect William H. Tripp Jr. and built in Holland by LeComte Yachts, the Northeast 38 represents a golden era of yacht design — where performance, craftsmanship, and beauty were expected to coexist. The perfect boat for the nostalgic mariner... CHAPTERS: 00:00 Opener 00:23 Intro to this STUNNER! 02:12 Keel, Rudder & Topsides 06:17 HUGE Cockpit 09:47 Up to the Bow 14:00 Below Deck 16:11 Galley & Nav Station 18:25 The Head 19:10 V-Berth 21:11 The Diesel! 24:03 Final Thoughts And this one? She absolutely delivers. What Makes This Boat Special: Timeless lines that turn heads in any harbor Solid fiberglass hull + Airex-cored decks (no soft, wet wood-cored decks!) Sea-kindly motion and proven offshore pedigree Classic teak interior with that unmistakable warmth With an LOA of 38’3” and a narrow, elegant beam, this is a boat that feels every bit like a proper offshore thoroughbred. The Market Reality: Comparable Northeast 38s have recently listed between $42K–$49K. This one? $39,000. And when you factor in condition, pedigree, and sheer rarity… it starts to feel like something more than just a listing. TO CONTACT THE SELLER FOR MORE INFORMATION, PLEASE EMAIL: joel.rackliffe@gmail.com ⚠️ The Pattern We Keep Seeing After touring more than 100 sailboats, we’ve noticed something: Some boats don’t sit. They get chosen. And boats like this — honest, well-kept, and quietly exceptional — tend to disappear fast. So the question is: Is this one of those boats? If you’re into classic sailboats, bluewater designs, or just appreciate a boat that was built when things were done right… this is one you don’t want to miss. ⚓ Let us know in the comments: Would you take this over a modern production boat? See you next time! -BoatFools Sailing Team Real boats, real people, real fun! Sailboats for the Rest of Us! THE CAPTAIN LEFT...WHO TOOK OVER? - Sailing Martinique We are sailing the west coast of Martinique, but with a twist... The Captain is away. With Rob back in New Zealand, Declan and Ivan step to take the helm to keep our Caribbean sailing adventure moving forward. The only problem, which one is the Captain? This week we explore the beautiful French Caribbean island of Martinique, the boys navigate the unpredictable wind conditions along the west coast, keeping the boat moving safely and efficiently. We head ashore for a jungle adventure to Couleuvre waterfall hidden deep in the rainforest. And the jungle surprises us with an unexpected encounter with a large, hairy, tarantula concealed among the forests branches. This week marks a huge milestone in our catamaran build as we finally begin installing the electrical system. After months of planning and prep work, we take a trip to Annapolis to meet up with our friend Ryan, CEO of Dakota Lithium Batteries. While our batteries aren’t in hand just yet, Ryan was able to supply us with all of the Victron components that will power our boat. With those finally on board, we can officially start the electrical install. Back at the boat, Matt converts what was originally meant to be our hanging locker into the space that will house our inverters. He walks through how the mounts will be built and how the equipment will be suspended on one-inch foam to keep everything secure and isolated. Meanwhile, Jessica begins work on the overhead panels in the guest aft berth. Before the panels can go up, support blocks need to be carefully measured and placed to hold the female ends of the snaps. Because of the contours where the hull side, deck, and transom meet, this turns into a lot more measuring and laser marking than expected. It’s a meticulous process, and the next steps will continue in the following episode. We wrap up by jumping forward a week to where the hanging locker area has been sanded, painted, and is ready to receive the first Victron component — the beginning of our electrical system finally going into the boat. The next stage of the build will involve running a lot of wire throughout the boat. If you’d like to help support that part of the project, we’ve added many of the cables and supplies we need to our Amazon wishlist: Amazon Wishlist https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2B2BOYEH9THAH/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_1 Thank you for following along with the build! In this video I speak my mind regarding the ongoing takeover and restriction of those who wish to live on sailboats. Cruisers and livaboards may become a thing of the past immanently. Hear me out. A last minute decision on the customer end has put me on a time crunch to get this little Westerbeke genset out of my shop and back to the boatyard where it can be reinstalled in their sailboat for cruising season. This thing has sat in my shop for two years and the customers were convinced they would sell it, however they have changed their minds and now it needs to be ready for the boatyard at the last minute so I am scrambling to get the last few things done and ready for them! Today I will replace the exhaust elbow (desperately in need of replacement), and the heat exchanger (also in bad shape) and I will take you along for the ride as I reassemble things!

In this episode, we continue into Day 2. The day begins with a steep climb straight from the hut, followed by our first real encounter with deep mud. Progress slows quickly, and what started as a physical challenge becomes something more. As we walk deeper into the forest, we begin to notice something we weren't expecting. Nothing goes to plan in Port Protection, Alaska. What starts as a straightforward day turns into a mix of everything… hauling gear from the beach, moving concrete, shifting culvert, and working under a house that’s been taking a beating from the elements. We’ve got help from our friend and Port Protection neighbor, Veronica… and let’s just say the landing didn’t exactly go smoothly. Out here, the tide sets the schedule, the weather changes by the hour, and you adjust as you go. By the end of the day, we’ve made real progress… solid footers poured, posts going in, and a clearer path forward. But getting there is never simple. This is what it actually looks like living and working in remote Alaska. Life in Port Protection Alaska, remote Alaska living, working in coastal Alaska, Southeast Alaska life, off grid lifestyle. ⏱️ Chapters: 00:00 Ocean + settling into the day 00:40 Starting work at the house 02:30 Hauling gear up from the beach 05:30 Moving concrete + heavy lifts 08:30 Working under the house 11:30 Digging + rebar + footing prep 13:30 Pouring concrete footers 15:30 Installing posts + culvert work 17:00 End of day update (progress + plan) 19:30 In the skiff – Veronica tells the story 😅 21:00 Weather + wrapping up the day
