This is the fourth video of my new series where I show you how I splice up different lines. In this video I build up an outboard jib lead system for a J/99 using Robline Admiral Dyneema. I do a different version of a stripped cover splice and unique way how to integrate a low friction ring and spliced eye for easy soft attachment to the boat. Just a reminder, I am a trained and certified rigger, so just because you watched my video does not make your certified or trained. Now the real haul-out work begins. After the sail drive drama in Episode 61, it’s time to get stuck into the big maintenance jobs underneath ARGO. First up we give the hulls a proper clean to remove staining before Jason tackles sanding the hulls himself – all in preparation for applying fresh antifoul. Then comes a first for us: applying Prop Speed to the sail drives and props. With a professional job happening on the boat next door, Jason suddenly has a benchmark… and he reckons his result might actually be better. We also start tackling a few other jobs while ARGO is on the hard: • Applying the first coat of antifoul • Installing water tank senders so we finally know exactly how much water we have onboard • Starting repairs on the diesel tanks (which has turned into a much bigger job than expected - of course it did) • Getting the tramps repaired It’s a busy haul-out and the learning curve has been steep – but incredibly satisfying. Cyclone Narelle hit the Northern Territory coast just south of Gove, where we were taking shelter deep up in the mangroves. Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. We purchased a bigger RHIB with a centre console when we got back to Georgian Bay. Light enough to hoist on our davit, our CL340 was perfect while sailing. But for bigger/longer dinghy adventures on G-bay, we wanted a proper RHIB with a console and a big water hull. Luckily CO2 had a used Sport 390 that we added a Yamaha F60 to. BUT… it didn’t come with an arch. So we ordered one but it took a bit to get. Today, to save some $$$, I decided to install it myself. With some tips from Les at CO2, it was easy!

Un mouillage réputé pour être bondé… presque vide 😳 Et très vite, on comprend pourquoi il attire autant de navigateurs. Alors, est-ce vraiment le paradis pour les voileux ? 👉 Tout dépend finalement de ce que l’on recherche… On va en profiter… mais aussi réparer ! ⚓ Bienvenue dans la vraie vie en voilier, entre petites galères et moments incroyables. On est à Musket Cove, à Malolo Island dans les îles Mamanuca à Fidji… et surprise : à peine une quinzaine de bateaux dans ce mouillage immense. Un de ces endroits où les bateaux s’entassent, un peu comme Taïna à Tahiti, Taiohae aux Marquises ou Sainte-Anne en Martinique… La saison cyclonique a commencé 🌪️ et on profite de cet endroit incroyable… presque pour nous. Mais derrière le décor de carte postale, il y a la réalité du bateau ⚙️ Pomper l’eau dans les fonds de cale… encore et encore. Une petite entrée d’eau au niveau de la bague du safran — rien d’alarmant, mais suffisant pour nous rappeler qu’il faudra s’en occuper quand le bateau sera à sec. Et puis il y a… les WC 😬 Sujet universel, inévitable 😂 Tom démonte tout, remplace presque tout… sauf LA pièce qui fuit 💦 Résultat : on ferme le passe-coque et on utilise les autres WC. Heureusement qu’on en a deux… même si ça veut aussi dire deux fois plus de problèmes 😅 Et pour la petite anecdote… je suis tombée dans le trou 😂 (pas celui des WC… celui des fonds de cale) On met ensuite le cap sur Mana Island, en passant une passe étroite avec les coraux juste sous la quille… impressionnant ! Et puis le vrai objectif : le snorkeling 🤿 Une vie marine incroyable, des paysages irréels… Depuis les Tonga, je traîne une douleur entre les côtes. Je sais que je devrais faire une pause… Mais ici, impossible de résister. Alors je replonge. Encore. Et encore. À observer, filmer, attendre le bon moment… J'ai passé des heures dans l'eau ! Parce que c’est ça, au fond, la vie en voilier : 👉 des petits problèmes du quotidien… et juste à côté, des moments d’une beauté incroyable. We kick off this season (2025) by setting course for Rödlöga, pushing through thick fog that keeps us on our toes from the very start. After navigating our way through, we head out on the crossing to Åland—only to be met with more fog, shifting winds, and even a sudden squall along the way. It’s a challenging but rewarding sail that finally brings us safely into the beautiful harbor of Rödhamn.
