In Sicilia è stato lo Scirocco a dettare legge, portando un’aria densa e carica di salsedine che ha sollevato il mare Ionio in un’ondata di energia distruttiva. La costa orientale tra Catania e Messina si è trovata a fronteggiare muri d’acqua alti oltre sei metri, con i marosi che hanno superato le barriere artificiali per reclamare spazi urbani e infrastrutture costiere. From deep cleaning and bleaching our canvas, whitening the gel coat on the sugar scoop, and repairing worn canvas, to installing new stainless steel to reinforce our solar panels on the existing solar arch — it’s all hands on deck. We also finally get our depth transducer and chart plotter compass reading sorted, which has been a long time coming. Despite a few unexpected setbacks, it feels amazing to make real progress and start preparing Escapade properly for what lies ahead. The Pacific is calling, and we’re getting ready to answer. After 36 days and 17 hours at sea, Thomas Coville and his team on the trimaran Sodebo Ultim 3 have just 2,000 nautical miles to go on their Jules Verne Trophy record attempt, but the conditions ahead they will have to face in the North Atlantic are the strongest winds and the biggest seas of their entire circumnavigation. The time to beat, set by Francis Joyon on IDEC Sport in 2016/17, is 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds, meaning they have to cross the finish line between Ushant and the Lizard Point before 8.31pm (French time) on Sunday 25th January. Présenté pour la première fois au salon de Cannes 2025, le Leopard 52 succède au Leopard 50, écoulé à quelque 246 exemplaires depuis son lancement en 2018. Dans l’air du temps, ce catamaran de croisière est proposé, en option, avec une propulsion électrique hybride Joool. L’hydrogénération, combinée à un parc de 1’600 W de panneaux solaires, permet de recharger efficacement des batteries lithium de dernière génération. Côté propulsion vélique, le Leopard 52 prend également un coup de fouet : son mât gagne un mètre et la grand-voile est désormais à corne. Résultat : 17 % de surface de voilure supplémentaire. Le travail d’optimisation s’est aussi porté sur le poids, avec un gain d’environ 100 kg par rapport au Leopard 50 (cela peut certes paraître anecdotique mais gardons à l’esprit que ce bateau fait deux pieds de plus). Comme toujours chez Leopard, cette nouveauté sera également proposée en version charter sous la marque Moorings avec des programmes de location-gestion et des aménagements permettant d’avoir 5 cabines doubles et une cabine équipage simple.
