In this episode the guests have all gone, and we slowly make our way northbound. Our eventual destination will be Malaysia, but there's a whole lot to see in between. We do some post-guest boat maintenance, including cleaning and drying some of the sails and the Mini Cat inflatable catamaran. As we pass through Telos, we snorkel on a sunken shipwreck that has become home to many little local fish. We land in some good, and some not so good anchorages on Nias. The good one, in the northwest, is called Afulu Bay, and offers a neat dinghy trip upriver for our provisioning run. Our last stop in Nias, at the north end of the island, is a bigger town named Lahewa that was not so long ago almost completely destroyed by a tsunami wave. They seem to be getting back on their feet really well, and Lahewa is now again a bustling town. Stay tuned for next time, when we will set out for a couple of day passage to an island off north Sumatra, and the town of Sabang. Thanks for following! Ne mutlu ki Güzel ülkem 100 yaşında. Nicelerini aynı coşkuyla kutlamayı diliyoruz. Ülkemizden millerce uzakta, hasretle, heyecanla kutladık Cumhuriyet Bayramımızı. 30 ar yıl meslek yaşamlarımızda Büyük Atatürk’ün izinden gitmenin gururuyla çalıştık. Aynı gururu İzmir’den batıya çıktığımız yolculuğumuzda da bayrağımızı dalgalandırarak, dünya denizlerinde bizler de varız diyerek kutladık, yaşadık. Şimdilerde dönüş yolundayız. Özlemimiz büyük. Nice yüzyıllara güzel ülkem. 29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayramı Kutlu Olsun. Atatürk’ü, silah arkadaşlarını, büyük kahramanlarımızı, ideallerini Atatürk’ün ışığıyla parlatan herkesi sonsuz minnet ve özlemle anıyoruz. Teşekkürlerimizle… Sevgiler Avare

Avare.

We ran out of food in the more remote parts of French Polynesia so we sailed to Tahitit to stock up. But it's super expensive! We are going to have to figure out a better way to survive our stay in this country....and part of that comes in a DIY solution to refilling our cooking gas tanks onboard. We also try out our Christmas gift from Mantus - a new dinghy anchor. It's been over 2 years since the last haul out, so "Escape" is well due for some maintenance. First on the list was replacing the broken window that was damaged in the storm as we left The Solomon Islands on our crossing of The Coral Sea ( see Episode 56). After sailing down the coast from Townsville we were booked into "Boatworks" at Coomera on the Gold Coast. Other jobs besides the windows was new antifoul, servicing the feathering props, replacing anchor shackle and reversing the chain.

The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. #brokenwindless #windlassswitch #quickwindlass In the few instances we have had to anchor, we have had a couple of mishaps that could have been avoided if we were better prepared. The first instance was when our engine quit and we were not able to deploy the windlass, because we didn't have access to battery power. The second instance happened when we had power in the batteries, but we had blown a fuse, which often can happen if you run the windlass system forward and backward too quickly. We show you what to do in both of these situations, so you can make sure you are well prepared for anchoring, which is VERY important to any sailboat. #anchorissues, #anchoringwithnopower #windlassissues #fountainepajotwindlass #fpwindlass #fpwindlassenginebypassswitch #preparingforachoringemergencies #installingwindlassengineswitch Windlass Engine Bypass Switch: 12v 20 Amp Waterproof LED ON/Off Boat Marine SPST Switch with Green Light https://amzn.to/3NTvuGM Aligator Clips: https://amzn.to/3RQQfUF Multi Meter: https://amzn.to/48oZMJE Corrosion X: https://amzn.to/48G9hUH Multi-Stack Disconnectors https://amzn.to/3vxQD2S Heat Shrink Ring Terminals: https://amzn.to/3vrzGar Marine Grade Wire: Black https://amzn.to/48EvJgS Red https://amzn.to/3NRicuk Kline Crimping Tool: https://amzn.to/4aK0Idl #svingenuity #sv_ingenuity #sailingingenuity #sailingchannel #sailingtravel channel #howtobeginsailing #sailingmaincoons #sailingwithcats #sailingwithanimals #sailingandworking #sailingDIY #boatwork #boatprojects #boatproject #DIYboatprojects #fountainepajot #fountainepajotsaona47 #fountainepajottanna #fountainepajotyacht #FPSaona47 #FPYacht #FPsailboat #FPcatamaran Help support our channel and become a patron: https://www.patreon.com/heidiandfrannysailing https://www.amazon.com/shop/heidiandfrannysailing Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/heidiandfrannysailing Website: http://www.heidiandfrannysailing.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61557106430356 Ozzie & Zeke's (our Maine Coons) Social Media YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@OzzieandZeke Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ozzieandzeke/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100077410124389&sk=reels_tab Disclaimer: Due to factors beyond the control of “Heidi and Franny’s Sailing”, We cannot guarantee against improper use or unauthorized modifications of this information. “Heidi and Franny’s Sailing” assumes no liability for property damage or injury incurred due to any of the information contained in this video. Have you ever looked at your boat and wondered when the day would come when you wouldn't have to mess with your teak ever again? Well, that day may never come but I've learned that AwlWood is a great, professional grade varnish that will keep your teak looking "yacht-like" for up to 5 years with minimal maintenance. I've sat on the task of revarnishing my teak for a long time and after trial and error with other teak products and I finally decided to try AwlWood. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Purchasing products through the links listed below is a great way to make it possible to create more videos like this one and will not change price of your purchase. *Added corrections* -Only 1 coat of primer is needed. Sand with 120 grit when it dries and apply your first coat of gloss the same day. -Do not use acetone, as it made the cured varnish sticky. I used a damp towel to remove excess dust and followed with a dry lint free towel and it was fine. Suggested Products and the amount I purchased: AwlWood Gloss (2-3 quarts) https://amzn.to/48NTDXz AwlWood Brushing Reducer (1 quart) https://amzn.to/3RQZuEj AwlWood Primer Red (1 quart) https://amzn.to/3RPzuJN AwlWood Primer Yellow https://amzn.to/3vrHKYM Heavy Duty Gloves https://amzn.to/3U9j4if Orbital Sander https://amzn.to/41W9dhy Interface Pads https://amzn.to/4aM5TcC Gator 120 Grit Sandpaper (and 320 grit) https://amzn.to/4aM61sC Heat Gun https://amzn.to/41R5QZ8 Anvil https://www.homedepot.com/p/Anvil-2-5-in-Metal-Wood-Removable-Scraper-2-Pack-F4-ANV/309996481 Tshirt Towels https://amzn.to/3TYuKE2 Dyson (I wouldn’t know what to do without it!) https://amzn.to/4aTP13K

#catamaransailing #leopard48 #sailing #barbuda #frigates #lobster #TwoFootCaves We waited for the right wind to sail to Barbuda from Antigua. It was a bit squally with winds changing every 10 minutes, but a short 5 hours later, we anchored in Cocoa Point. We have a special guest for our Barbuda sailing adventure, Stephen’s son - Harrison Bell. Snow skate extraordinaire (instagram bellharrison). Harrison joined us for a pre holiday visit, so he could get back to Snow Country in time for the Holiday excitement. He had never been on our yacht before, so we were eager to show him our new way of life! In Barbuda, we enjoyed a lobster dinner on the beach at Shak a Kai on Princess Diana Beach, toured the Frigate Bird sanctuary, and visited Two Foot Bay Caves. We ran out of time for the Darby Sink hole, but maybe next time. We caught a Tarpon on the back of the boat at night. Harrison even helped with boat maintenance by taking a trip up the mast for us! BTW, the Cocoa Point anchorage has the most wind and wave protection of any in Barbuda. But be forewarned, dinghy access to beach requires getting wet! Our larger dinghy does not “beach” very well, but it sure comes in handy when we are exploring miles of waterways. The Frigate Bird sanctuary is in Codrington Lagoon (near the only main town on the island). Estimates range from “2,500 to 6000 nesting pairs” . Hurricane Irma decreased the population some. These magnificent birds travel between the Caribbean and Galapagos islands during the varying mating seasons. The sanctuary is only accessible with a tour guide. We used George Jefferies (Call him at 268-788-7067). Our Taxi was with Devin 268-788-8419. Schedule your itinerary in advance! The best time to visit is during the mating season, from September to April with December being peak time. The male frigate birds line up in the bushes, arch their heads back and inflate their red pouches. The females view from the sky and when she spots a suitor that impresses her, she’ll land and initiate a mating ritual. After mating, they take 2 weeks to build a nest from twigs that the male gathers. The female lays a single egg that both birds take turns watching over. It takes about seven weeks for the chick to hatch, and nearly six months for it to learn to fly and finally leave the nest. Barbuda also offers Pink Sand Beaches, formed by pink shells breaking apart and washing ashore. Barbudaful is the term now used for the island. Two Foot Caves was our next stop, accessible only by dirt paths - hence the name two foot. It is located on the northeastern cliff lined windward coast. While there are many caves in Barbuda, the Indian Cave has the only known Arawak petroglyphs on Barbuda. Indian Cave is 35 feet tall, with bats hanging from the ceiling. The roads in Barbuda are rough. The main town very small. Our taxi guide Devin tells us there are only 1600 residents and it ls like one big family. Everyone helps each other out. The reason there are so many half built homes is that no one takes a bank loan out. They build their homes slowly as they can afford materials. Power outside the main town is generators and solar. Snorkeling the reefs we not the most healthy, but conch was abundant, and on the Spanish Point side of the island, there were hundreds of lobster traps set by fishermen who then sell them to restaurants in Antigua. Back to Antigua today so Harrison can catch his flight. Sporty conditions on the windward side of Antigua - reminded me of our initial arrival back in November. Now that they've found a dock they like on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Robin, Steve, and Akiva experience their biggest wind storm yet aboard this DIY wooden sailboat, and shortly afterward Steve gets to work on the repairs and woodworking projects that have been adding up aboard Arabella over the last few months. He digs into the toe rail project after gluing and lashing up a crack in the mizzen boom, and does mention the stack packs (sail covers) that are on their way, too. Don't remember the accident with the mizzen boom? It happened off-camera and was an easy fix, so it didn't end up in a video. They've been sailing fine with the sturdy nylon cord Steve repaired it with, and so the glue-and-screw method he's used should be good to keep this through fair weather sailing for now, with plans for a new mizzen boom later. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! This week we recover from engine problems. After lifting anchor and setting sail down the river Aulne we notice an absence of cooling water from the back of the boat. This causes it to overheat and we have to drop our anchor to assess the problem. A decision is made to head to a marina for further investigations and make repairs or get further help. We have to do this under sail and unbelievably we suffer a further two failures on the way! Check out the video to find out how we solve it and then make sail around the Crozon Peninsula. A lovely passage with stunning views of many rocks along the way. If you are enjoying our content remember to like, subscribe and make comments. Episode 041 Welcome to another Skipper's Boot Camp video. If you are a New Zealand registered sailboat, in order to leave New Zealand waters by boat, we have to meet our Category 1 requirements (known as Cat 1). Cat 1 has pretty stringent requirements (we believe for good reasons) and requires both boat and crew to be prepared to leave New Zealand and cross an ocean. One of the requirements is that we had to attend a sea survival course. We really enjoyed this course and think anyone who is buying a boat should be doing this course. We thought we knew a lot...but we didn't really...and it made us really start to think about our safety at sea. Fortunately for me, I have Adam and if you have been following us for a while, he takes our safety very seriously and is a firm believer that we are better to practice and become familiar with our safety systems and how to do things, rather than having to figure it out in a worse case scenario. So after this course, we decided it was time to go through our safety systems and practice our man overboard drill. With it just being the two of us, knowing how to rescue each other single-handed is paramount. Until the filming of this video, I (Vicki) was unfamiliar with all our safety systems and I was always worried what I'd do if I was on my own. This is why we practice. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! If commenting, we ask that you be respectful. After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

14 hours before launch. We locked the boat up. Sometime between locking her up and splash time the next morning, our Morgan was broken into, ransacked and robbed some expensive gear and spare parts! This was heartbreaking but it failed to dampen our spirits on launch day! This ends this maintenance series covering our Matilda's haul out and relaunch. Big new coming up for 2024! Hard screwing, sanding, staining; lots of DIY projects. We've made several improvements to the galley to enhance its looks and functionality. Several new shelves, one with self closing glides and another that swings out. Karen just loves the glides. After a lot of screwing at some difficult angles, Steve got a new tool! The battery operated nail gun just makes things a lot easier. The new tile counter really modernized and lightened up the galley. Dancing in the galley. As we approach a new year, we want to thank our subscribers for following us and wish y'all a very happy New Year!😘🥰 If you haven't already, please subscribe. We are very proud to be CNB's exclusive dealer for residents of the UK and Andorra. We work closely and co-operatively with CNB and their appointed dealer network so if you are from another country with an appointed CNB dealer, we will happily make the introduction to the right person to help you understand the fantastic quality and capability of the CNB range. The fifth CNB 78 is being launched this summer and she will be available for viewing at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. The first CNB 62 will be sailing in early 2025 and we have full details and plans for the new 68 and 88 which will follow.  The CNB 76 was our favourite yacht, she was an outstanding success for CNB with 32 being built. It takes something exceptional to improve on the 76 but CNB has delivered. The new CNB 78. The new CNB 78 takes the elements that made the 76 such a compelling proposition and improves upon them. The DNA remains but has evolved with even better sailing performance and yet more space created in what we believe is still the class-leading four-cabin layout. Quality and execution are outstanding. We believe anyone looking for a yacht between 70 and 90 feet should take a close look at the CNB 78 before making a decision. If you would like to receive the full pricing information and full options list, do not hesitate to enquire. We have had the pleasure of selling sailing a number of the 76s with different set ups both while cruising and in the annual owners events organised by CNB so are able to guide and advise. NOTABLE FEATURES - Less than 24 metres - Briand hull design delivers performance and comfort both at anchor and crossing oceans - Wide range of rig options - carbon for ultimate performance or in-mast furling for even easier handling - True four-cabin layout. Generous saloon, superb galley with the option of a fifth cabin in the bow - Stunning cockpit with easy liaison to her sumptuous light-filled saloon - Huge owner’s suite forward, two equally luxurious VIP guest cabins mid-ships - Fabulous galley aft adjacent to an excellent double cabin - Superbly organised engineering. Central machinery space for balance and ease-of-maintenance - Fabulous level of interior finish and space utilisation For more information, please visit the full listing on our website at: https://www.aberyyachts.com/for-sale/new-cnb-78

Thanks to our friends, Juergen and Heike, we were able to experience our first change of seals and o-rings on SD25's and the bonus of a change of needle bearings too. Of course, no boat job ever goes smoothly. Check out the video to see why! #frenchpolynesia #marquesas #sailing #pacificcrossing #coconutmilkrun #yanmar #saildrive #SD25 #sealchange #leopard40 #catamaran NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? #catamaransailing #leopard48catamaran #sailing #Antigua #EnglishHarbour #FalmouthHarbor #NelsonsDockyard #AntiguaHiking #HellsGate #GreatBirdIsland We spent 6 weeks in Antigua and Barbuda during Winter of 2023. We will cover the best and the worst (in our opinion) of our stops. The Best : the waters and coastlines. The Worst: InLand - most areas are run down and dirty. Only place for ample quality groceries was St. Johns, which was also the most difficult to get to. Burning garbage smell in some anchorages is unbearable. 1. English Harbor. The Best: historic Nelson’s Dockyard (and the wonderful Jolene at the Dockmaster’s office) Fort Berkeley Trails, Mermaid Rocks as well as Carpenter Trail and Shirley Heights, Pillars of Hercules, The Pillars restaurant at Admiral’s Inn, Incantino Italian restaurant, French pastries delivered to boat daily. Fuel available. The Worst: Crowded. Anchor holding by Galleon Beach questionable. 2. Carlisle Bay - Best: wonderful resort where you can use dinghy dock to visit the restaurant, and even rent a car. Worst: nothing! 3. Cades Reef & Middle Reef - Best: anchoring right between the reefs. Worst: Reefs are dead but still fish to see. 4. Jolly Harbor and surrounding beaches - Best: Good marina if needed, budget marine right by dinghy dock. Good grocery store Epicurious. Plenty of anchoring areas and beaches. Laundry service in boatyard. Worst: nothing. 5. Five Islands - Best: large bay with plenty of anchoring and beaches. Worst: nothing 6. Deep Bay - Best: Wreck of the Andes great to snorkel. Fort Barrington is a nice short hike. Hawksbill Rock is a beautiful site. Worst: resort is all inclusive, so no access. 7. Boon Channel - Enter on the west coast and exit carefully in calm seas on the east coast through Bird Islet channel. Best: Great Bird Island, Hells’ Gate, all the smaller islands are worth visits when you can get access. Red head island, Rabbit island, Lobster island - go between the reefs carefully. Crabb Island North Sound Marina Budget Marine. Worst: Maiden Island - no access, Prickly Pear - no anchoring, Parham - rundown city. Jumby Bay (Long Island) no access. 8. Nonsuch Bay Green Island - Best: Beautiful protected bay where you can anchor right by the ocean protected by their reefs. Must enter from south side to avoid them. Great snorkeling on beach as you first enter channel - lobsters! Asian restaurant called Rokuni is 10STAR! Great food, infinity pool with drinks! Lots of windsurfers and kiteboarders and classes are available through 40 North. Dinghy dock on back of nonsuch bay resort has access to parking lot where you can meet a rental car if needed. Worst: no stores nearby. 9. St Johns - Best: all the conveniences of big city. Worst: no good anchorage or dinghy dock to go ashore. City is run down. 10. Falmouth - Biggest Maritme center where annual Superyachts boat show is held. Best: Stores & Restaurants. Budget marine. Worst: Fuel only for large yachts. Come along as we sail and navigate chilly waters in search of a winter haven for Arabella. We've got some stunning sailing footage for you as we set sail from Sandwich, Massachusetts, with Scott and Jack aboard to crew through the sometimes-treacherous currents of Woods Hole and the challenging waters of Buzzards Bay. Known for its strong currents and weather challenges, this leg of the journey promises excitement and a test of Steve and Jack's seamanship. It's also a great chance for Scott to experience more interesting conditions as he's still learning on the water. Before their departure, Steve tracks down and repairs a bit of water ingress in the forepeak. He'll be needing an additional rivet, a hot knife, and of course, crossed fingers, as per usual. Boat maintenance is, truly, fun sleuthing. Thank you for your support, and for everyone who's here every week, leaving a comment. Here for the first time? Subscribe to our newsletter to be sure you see more of our adventures.
