#sailing #sailingfamily #dayinthelife #dayinmylife #boatlife #frenchpolynesia A typical day aboard our boat is not really very predictable except that in the morning, we are either schooling or sailing. Schooling however can be done in many different places and some of these places can be so bizarre. Any family sailing with kids will understand that and this is our attempt at trying to share what life can be like aboard our boat. It's time for another boat tour. Interview with the director of Alubat: https://youtu.be/4peUIQAznv4?si=qKTD8CXDDsQxECdK We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons. The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Check out our website to know more about it https://www.oddlifecrafting.com/blog We hope to inspire others to follow their dreams. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way. Episode 043 We've been living aboard our sailboat for almost two years now and Vicki has never done a coastal passage since being aboard. Why? Well...for many personal reasons which we won't share but this spring/summer, Vicki has decided that if we are to go ocean sailing next year, now is the time to step forward and do this. To kick of our coastal sailing, we sail 30 nautical miles up the coast to the beautiful and remote Whangaroa Harbour. It's a long enough sail for Vicki to get a feel of coastal sailing but a short enough sail that we can still anchor somewhere overnight. The conditions are perfect, a south-west wind averaging 15 knots with a 1.5 meter swell. First stop is the Cavalli Islands where we spend the night before making our way to Whangaroa Harbour. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. After a few years of studying and working hard we decided it was time to make a change. We needed a change that would allow us to spend more time together, give us a better work/life balance, and the freedom to travel. While we still had time on our side, we wanted to use it to live rather than use it to chase money. Learning to sail was the answer. In December 2021 we moved onboard Te Tāiko, a Chico40, and since then we have been so fortunate to explore many of New Zealand’s pest free islands and its beautiful anchorages. With our love of travel and adventure, this lifestyle has enabled us to experience so much more than we could ever have imagined. From new experiences to meeting incredible people along the way, our life has been enriched in so many ways and makes us ever so more appreciative of our environment and the footprint we leave behind. Tāiko is our floating home. She gives us the freedom to go anywhere the wind and weather allows. By living a more minimalistic and sustainable lifestyle, she has provided us with a better work/life balance and has taught us to live and be present more in the moment. Tāiko has also taught us to be more independent and less reliant on services. Some of these experiences have taken us out of our comfort zone many times but as the saying goes, ‘a comfort zone is a wonderful place but nothing grows there’. Our plan is to do blue water cruising. So, over the next year we will be completing some maintenance work on Tāiko and be getting her ready to meet New Zealand’s category 1 requirements to be able to go offshore. In the meantime, follow along with us as we navigate this new lifestyle whilst sharpening our skills exploring New Zealand waters. #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel #newzealand #sailingnewzealand

Stack packs are a type of canvas sail cover for sailboats, offering convenience and efficiency in handling the mainsail. Paired with lazy jacks, these packs consist of a canvas cover that neatly encases the mainsail when lowered and zipped. The key benefits for sailors include quick and easy sail storage, streamlined deployment, and reduced crew effort. With stack packs, there's less of a need for manual flaking or folding; the sail more or less falls into place, simplifying the process for single-handed sailors or smaller crews. The packs also provide protection for the mainsail, shielding it from the elements and UV exposure, ultimately extending the sail's lifespan. Whether a seasoned sailor or a beginner, stack packs enhance the sailing experience by making sail management easier. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Episode 042 We continue with our practicing of our man overboard drill. In the last video, we practiced retrieving the dan buoy under sail and engine, together and single-handed as well as our hoving to. In this video, we we practice the recovery phase but not before moving to another beautiful anchorage in the Bay of Islands. Adam had made a 6:1 block and tackle system which is meant to lift our dinghy (tender), Tītī from the water to the deck, but we found it was also helpful in lifting him from the water. As we choose to keep Tāiko our sailboat simple, we have no electric winches on board, so finding ways to make some difficult tasks easier is essential. Let us know what you think and if there is anything you would like to see from us. We hope you enjoy it! As always, thanks for watching. Sincere thanks to Charlotte Rockstar Jones for composing and recording Te Tāiko's theme song. Please remember to subscribe, like, comment - it helps us out! #boatlife #boat #travelvlog #digitalnomad #lifestyle #sailing #travel

#sailingtheworld #Guadeloupe #Les-saintes Sailing in Guadeloupe, the French butterfly shaped island, must be the best kept secret in the Caribbean. Interestingly, we did not see many Americans here. - it is a missed opportunity! The French island is an absolute joy to explore. And we only covered half of it. We toured the west side of Guadeloupe which is called Basse Terre and is the more mountainous region. We did not visit the central or south areas or the east side (called Grand Terre) which is much flatter and low ground, or Marie Galant. Here is our Itinerary. DeShaies - We stopped here for customs checkin and stayed a couple days. We enjoyed the L’Amer restaurant, the food was great but service was slow. Lots of restaurants and shops here, in the Caribbean dirty buildings style. We toured the botanical garden (https://jardin-botanique.com/). Not much was in bloom when we visited. Pigeon Island - We anchored then at Malendure, and went snorkeling at the Jacque Cousteau Underwater Marine Park. Snorkeling was not great - most of the best coral was deeper so diving would have been better. Malendure did not have a dinghy dock for town either, so we did not stay long. Boullante - Large anchorage with a thermal bath from volcanic steam in one corner! Guadeloupe has 5 hot thermal springs in the Bouillante area - see map. Some are so hot that you can swim in them only when they are cooled by the sea. The most famous are the Bain chaud de Thomas , the sulphurous spring of the village , produced by geothermal energy, the Bain du Curé , the beach of Anse à Sable. But there are many more, like those of the beach of Petite Anse, Bois-Malher or even at Anse du Dépôt. The hot springs were quickly identified and used for their thermal properties by early French settlers. Although hydrotherapy was not developed in Bouillante, the hot waters still made it possible to create the first geothermal power plant in France . Clean and renewable electricity which produces 10% of Guadeloupe's consumption and intends to grow up to 22%. Basse Terre - This capital city was our next stop. We filled up with diesel at the marina and then anchored by the Riviere de Sans Marina. We stocked up on groceries at the Super U - amazing what you can do with a car! We visited the Cimitiere - not just your ordinary cemetery - here all of the burial spots have mini houses built so you can come and hang out with your loved ones who have passed. It was the perfect spot to explore the rainforest. We rented a car and drove to the Chutes de Carbet - 5 waterfalls by the mouth of the volcano. We hiked and rock climbed to 2 of the falls - an all day event. It was breathtaking, but difficult and dangerous. We have a separate video on that hike you won’t want to miss. Les Saintes -. Made up of nine unspoiled islands, only two are inhabited. Terre de Haut has bistro lined streets, a turquoise water bay, and truly is an island worth visiting. On the main village drag, less than a five-minute walk from the dock, Au Bon Vivre French restaurant with Caribbean flair, was our favorite dinner spot. Our second favorite was actually in a hotel called Le Kanaoa, with it’s own dock and overlooking the bay. Vauban style Fort Napoleon, overlooks the bay of Les Saintes, and is worth exploring - although only open in the mornings. It has been uniquely preserved with a museum as well as cactus gardens throughout the fort. Terre de Bas We anchored at Anse Fidelin which turned out to be one of our favorites - quiet, good snorkeling. Plugging a hole, lights, stripping paint, iguanas, raccoons, beach, bikini, cartwheel and more. We’re continuing our detailing of Isabella down below. Steve installed new lights and moved an old one. We love natural wood and continue to strip paint off the hall wall restoring that look. Lots of DIY lead to some fun at the beach. Karen attempted to do a cartwheel. We saw several different species of wildlife. Did y’all know that when the temperature gets near freezing, iguanas go into a state, cold-stunned, where they start falling out of trees? There’s only one species of raccoon in Florida, Procyon lotor, and it's active in the late afternoon instead of being nocturnal. We love our subscribers and are sending y’all warm and happy thoughts. #marquesa #frenchpolynesia #pacificislands #sailingfamily #sailingadventures #waterfall Everything is an adventure in this episode. Even shopping for a few bits of fruit. But that is the reality of boatlife and most of it is done in exotic locations. As the Marquesas Islands are exposed to the Pacific swell, approaching land via any beach can be a challenge and this time we actually found ourselves half swimming. At last, we launch all the sails as we set off on another downwind open water crossing in the South Pacific ocean under our big guns, the spinnaker and staysail. If you like watching sailing channels with real sailing, you've come to the right place! We've got this episode jam-packed full of real sailing. Learn how and why we use our spinnaker aboard our performance cruising sailboat. Learn why we choose the routes we do. Watch as we adjust our autopilot settings for better downwind sailing performance. See how we fly 2 headsails at once and discuss managing mainsail trim to open the slot for better airflow over our sails. #sailing #vlog #howto Want to support our content, get behind the scenes information, real-time updates, and thousands of photos from our journey? Originally from the Great Lakes, we left Newport Rhode Island in July of 2019 after refitting our boat DIY style. We then sailed to Maine, and from there down the East Coast of the USA, around Cape Hatteras, to the Bahamas, Back to Miami, and then to the Virgin Islands. From there, we headed south to Grenada to escape hurricane season, then back up to St. 6 we launched our first Atlantic Crossing to Horta, Azores. We made a quick trip back to the USA in July of '21 to defend our Chicago - Mackinac Race overall title, then it was back to cruising the Canaries, where we launched for our second Transatlantic voyage, sailing to Brazil in South America and on to Uruguay. Our goal is to sail around the world via Cape Horn, and that is what we are doing. Capturing footage to share this epic adventure with you as we round the horn and venture into the canals and fjords of Patagonia, Chile and onward across the Pacific and Indian oceans before we complete our circumnavigation by crossing the equator again in the Atlantic Ocean and landing in the Caribbean. Oh yea, and don't forget to keep an eye out for our amazing four-legged friend, Roxy, the sailing dog. Not only is our spinnaker a downwind weapon on board our ship, but Roxy the Dog is the ultimate defender as she protects our boat from aerial bird attacks (you know, bird poop!).
The ancient diesels are trusty pieces of kit. Some trust them to fail when needed most… All in all, with all of the dirty downsides we still cant find anything better for long term cruising. However now.. Things are changing and electric has a place. More power, more range and lees maintenance. Electric is still not for everyone but it finding a place, in this episode we check out mid sized motors to power a small boat, around the 10m range so perfect for fast sail boats and power boats alike.. possibly a big tender too, so long as you can charge the battery that is! He'll keep the hole in the coach roof for a galley vent, though. Walk with Akiva on a Cape Cod beach, visit the llamas in Granby where it all began, and come back with us to make progress on the broken toe rail by preparing the pieces for scarf joints as soon as it's warm enough to use TotalBoat epoxy in the ambient outdoor temperature. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard from scratch: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. In this episode the guests have all gone, and we slowly make our way northbound. Our eventual destination will be Malaysia, but there's a whole lot to see in between. We do some post-guest boat maintenance, including cleaning and drying some of the sails and the Mini Cat inflatable catamaran. As we pass through Telos, we snorkel on a sunken shipwreck that has become home to many little local fish. We land in some good, and some not so good anchorages on Nias. The good one, in the northwest, is called Afulu Bay, and offers a neat dinghy trip upriver for our provisioning run. Our last stop in Nias, at the north end of the island, is a bigger town named Lahewa that was not so long ago almost completely destroyed by a tsunami wave. They seem to be getting back on their feet really well, and Lahewa is now again a bustling town. Stay tuned for next time, when we will set out for a couple of day passage to an island off north Sumatra, and the town of Sabang. Thanks for following! Ne mutlu ki Güzel ülkem 100 yaşında. Nicelerini aynı coşkuyla kutlamayı diliyoruz. Ülkemizden millerce uzakta, hasretle, heyecanla kutladık Cumhuriyet Bayramımızı. 30 ar yıl meslek yaşamlarımızda Büyük Atatürk’ün izinden gitmenin gururuyla çalıştık. Aynı gururu İzmir’den batıya çıktığımız yolculuğumuzda da bayrağımızı dalgalandırarak, dünya denizlerinde bizler de varız diyerek kutladık, yaşadık. Şimdilerde dönüş yolundayız. Özlemimiz büyük. Nice yüzyıllara güzel ülkem. 29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayramı Kutlu Olsun. Atatürk’ü, silah arkadaşlarını, büyük kahramanlarımızı, ideallerini Atatürk’ün ışığıyla parlatan herkesi sonsuz minnet ve özlemle anıyoruz. Teşekkürlerimizle… Sevgiler Avare

Kasırga sezonunda buralarda uzun kalacağız. Sonunda Pamuk’ u buraya muhtar adayı yapabiliriz. Avare.
