This San Juan 32 is by far the best equipped RIB that you'll find. She was built by San Juan Yachts, designed for the rugged wet weather in the Pacific Northwest, she is equipped to handle rough sea conditions and unpredictable weather. The previous owner put almost 450 k into upgrading this boat from her "base boat" state including a Seakeeper 2 Gyro stabilizer, outriggers, upgraded electronics, new WING tubes, etc. This boat has been outfitted and upgraded without regard to cost, she one of the better equipped boats under 35' on the market. Spring outboard commissioning includes a thorough visual inspection including exterior connections and fuel lines, removing the cowl to check internal connections and wires. Manipulate the steering to ensure it moves smoothly and add grease if needed. Check mounting clamps and bolts to ensure they're tight. Check the prop and zincs. Add muffs or run your engine in a barrel, turn on the hose, start the engine, and burn off the fogging. Finish by adding a coat of paste wax to shine up the cowl and protect the finish. Boats with engines located aft offer several benefits over mid hull mounted arrangements but also require attention to different maintenance items, one of them often overlooked that can cause serious engine damage. Most newer boats with aft engines are what we commonly refer to as “pod” drive but this applies equally to out drive arrangements and boats with Vee drives. Moving the engines aft provided several benefits: 1. The primary source of noise was moved out from under accommodation spaces and could more easily be isolated and better insulated making the boat quieter. 2. With pod and out drives a better shaft angle was obtained improving efficiency and /or upper end speed range. 3. Greater flexibility in interior arrangements and more storage. 4. BoatUS Magazine's Mark Corke shows you how to easily fix gelcoat spider cracks, hairline cracks, and crazing in your boat's fiberglass gelcoat. While this may seem like a scary project, with a little time and patience, it's something you can do yourself with great results! It's important to differentiate between stress cracks and spider cracks (though the terms are often used interchangeably). Stress cracks are generally deeper, involve more than just the gelcoat, have an underlying cause (structural or impact), and are likely to come back if the underlying cause isn't addressed first. Spider cracks are less likely to come back as they're superficial and often caused by age, UV, weather, or dings. As a result, the Panama Canal has been closed to recreational yachts, leaving us with no option but to postpone our Pacific Crossing until 2021. No matter where you boat, if you have an outboard motor, the best thing you can do to help prolong its life and keep it in good running shape is to flush it with freshwater after every use. This is especially important in saltwater or brackish water. But even if you boat in freshwater lakes or rivers, you still need to do this important maintenance task every time because it's easy to suck up mud, grit, and other contaminants. Always follow your outboard boat engine manufacturer's recommendations for how to perform this maintenance, but generally it's pretty much the same other than amount of time to run freshwater through the system. Some companies say 5 minutes, others say 10. Generally more is better. Some outboard engines have flushing ports, which make the job very simple. If your outboard motor doesn't have a port, you'll need to use earmuffs, which slip over the intakes and deliver freshwater from a hose into the motor. For this, you'll need to start the engine, but make sure to leave it in neutral and don't touch the throttle. One important tip: Don't hook up the hose and walk away to do other tasks. It's critical to ensure the water continues to flow and the earmuffs don't shift while doing this, otherwise it may damage your outboard. How to clean Teak. In this video we share the way we look after our teak. Showing the process and the results. Teak can be tricky to clean as the pith is easy to damage by harsh scrubbing and the use of acids. We use the Star Brite product with clean water and a soft brush in badly stained areas. I others we just use the lightest of dustings with sand paper. We show how the teak can be blotchy after coating until it soaks in.
