Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** Amy's family came to visit us in Fiji! Her mom, Lisa; step-dad, Bob; and uncle Phil joined us for a week of sailing around the Yasawa Group as part of Bob's 60th birthday celebration. We had an absolute blast with them, though I think we've been gone so long we forgot how gifts are supposed to work. Amy baked a delicious cake, but they brought us 160 lbs (72 kg) of stuff! Our tour of the Yasawas included 3 stops over 8 days. First was Navadra Island where we almost lost Lisa forever to the seductive activity of shelling on the beach. We also built a bonfire and competed (poorly) in the World Championship Beach Olympics with the crew of Cheeky Monkey. Next up was the beautiful Manta Ray resort and a test of the underwater housing for our new video camera. The footage came out amazing, even if those darned manta rays declined to make an appearance for the SECOND year in a row! The last stop was up at Nanuya Island, the sight of some filming for the Brooke Shield's movie 'The Blue Lagoon'. The water was indeed quite blue, but we had more fun going on an adventure to find a woman named Lo. Sadly, that is where our guests had to leave us, but it was so incredibly special to be able to share a bit more insight into the cruising life with them. Thanks for watching! How to clean the Bottom of a Sailboat with a hookah, along with a DIY Propspeed review of Sea Breathe , and the Best chain hook which we have concluded is a Mantus Chain Hook! - Patrick Childress Sailing Tips and Sailing Videos #12 ....A hookah or Sea Breathe for boat work is absolutely necessary equipment for a cruising sailboat.....It can take hours to clean the bottom of a sailboat hull to get ready to sail on ecspecially without the best propeller paint like Oceanmax propspeed with extra foul release which we applied DIY in Malaysia in 2017. 2019..it’s still working great. This sailboat video specifically covers how to clean a sail boat hull underwater. More speed...with less fuel! Is their saying...we like that! Bottom painting a propeller requires the best propeller paint, and a good snuba or hookah unit like the Sea Breathe unit we have on sailboat Brick House. My personal opinion of Propspeed from Oceanmax, Sea Breathe hookah/snuba, is that it’s one of the tools on a sailboat every sailor must have. Also, we have found that the Mantus chain hooks are the best chain hook for sailboat, after trying a number of other chain hooks over the years. Propspeed made cleaning the sailboat prop a non event. We haven’t figured out how to keep the bottom of the boat clean yet, besides scrubbing it every few weeks with the Sea Breathe hookah. At least with Propspeed, the propeller stays free from barnacles and growth, even if the bottom becomes fouled quite quickly. Cleaning ablative bottom paint can even be fun with a hookah and a boat bottom scraper, but someday we hope to find something that works. CoppercCoat is a bit too expensive for us, but we hope when our budget fees up a little bit more, that perhaps we can do a Coppercoat DIY application. I believe they do not allow this, but we are hoping to one day we can find a way to get ourselves a batch and do a “How To Apply Coppercoat yourself” video! That would save the money it costs to have it done professionally, and nobody is more concerned about doing it properly than the boatowner himself! Music by Kogane (https://soundcloud.com/kokogane) Really appreciate the support, check out the Patreon for more access and perks: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon If Patreon isn't your thing, I also have a Paypal.me link: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon I've also created an Amazon Wish List if you'd like to purchase specific items I'll need as the build continues: http://a.co/dx7F4dz I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel to world. I make travel vlogs sharing my ups and downs, adventures on motorbikes, sailboats, and vans. Instagram: @Finding_Simon Snapchat: Finding_Simon Twitter: @FindingSimon Donations: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon Merchandise: http://simonstiles.com/finding-simon/ :::::::FAQ::::::: - How do you afford to travel constantly? A: I travel really cheap, free camping, cooking my own meals, being as efficient as possible. I make my income almost entirely on YouTube but it's really tight. Ad revenue, patreon, paypal donations, merchandise sales and affiliate links bring in about as much as a part time minimum wage job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough I go back to work, doing photography mostly, sometimes commercial video projects, but it takes me away from my travels and videos. - How much does it cost? I spend on average $2000 travelling, most of which is gas, some repairs, food, and on average less than $200 on any eating out, shopping or extra curricular expenditures. I make $200 a month from YouTube and $400 from Patreon. The rest I make from my work. - What camera do you use? Sony A7ii, DJI Mavic Pro, Rode Videomic with Deadcat, Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, DIY tripods and lights. - What is your bike? 1999 Yamaha Vstar XVS1100 with a Champion Escort sidecar. - What kind of boat is that? It's a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 - What're your plans? Fix it up, run nothing but green power, sail off into the sunset. - How do you find all these cool places? To gain access to my complete research you need to hit me up on Patreon, but here's a few sites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/ https://www.campendium.com/ http://www.atlasobscura.com/ https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - What do you do for Internet? I use coffeeshops and libraries to upload episodes a few at a time, I also use my wifi antenna (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9lNM8Mukk&t=2s) and a data package on my phone (10GB) - How do you live on the road with a dog? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with my dog anyways, especially if it's warm out in the middle of the day. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make some decisions, avoiding places that ban dogs, and spending more time out in nature instead of in the cities. - What happened to the girl? We decided to go separate ways (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPgxDIXxCjY&t=4s) - Are you rich or something? definitely not. I've spent some quality time homeless, I've struggled financially most of my life, and although I'm blessed with great friends and family as well as being able bodied white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to travel the world. You need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, time with family, and often your career but it is possible. - Why don't you have 10x more subscribers? My channel isn't that old, many of the bigger channels you can compare mine to started putting out videos a couple years before I began. I could always use your help sharing my videos, spreading the word, and connecting with cross promotional opportunities. Editing and travelling tend to take up all my time. - Where are you now? The top perk on my Patreon page is a live link of my location on google maps so you can get an active idea of where I am currently. If that's not an option for you there's also Instagram and Instagram stories that give you a much better idea of what I'm up to today.

In this episode, Wet Core!? (and sail repairs), I discover some wet core on my deck surrounding my poorly installed anchor windlass foot switches. I make it right with fiberglass and epoxy. I also take my sails in to North Sails for repairs. If you like my videos, please SUBSCRIBE to see more, and be sure to give this video a like! In August of 2017 I sold everything and moved aboard Balachandra, a 1986 C&C44 sailboat, then sailed it over 300 nautical miles to Halifax Nova Scotia to spend a cold Canadian winter in the frozen waters of the North Atlantic. Sailing Balachandra is my YouTube sailing vlog inspired by other great channels such as Delos and La Vagabonde, which documents the sailing adventures of myself and the occasional crewmembers(s) as we navigate the east coast of North America and beyond. I also dive into lots of DIY boat projects both above and below decks, and share with you all of the pros and cons of living aboard in a cold climate. Sailing Balachandra is published weekly so please subscribe so you don't miss out on future videos! My sails were repaired and serviced by North Sails in Lunenberg, Nova Scotia: https://www.northsails.com/ This video was shot with equipment from Optrix by Body Glove Opening Theme Music by Tristan Mailman (used with permission) Other music by YouTube Music Library: Acoustic Meditation 2 by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...) Over the winter we decided to try out a little experiment we would share with everyone. While doing our research we heard a lot about the effects of different metals on one another. The nobility of a metal will determine how it reacts to others with differing nobility, leading to the more noble metal enhancing the corrosion of the lesser noble one. We found this fascinating and decided it would be interesting to see if we could see if first hand in a little experiment at home. So here we are sharing what we've gathered so far. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. I needed a table to support my beer on the back porch, Danielle already had her alcohol support, system cause she's my girl and her needs come first. This end table only took about an hour to build, if I had better tools I could have done it faster, but I work with what I have. Enjoy the video... ***** Amy's family was coming to visit soon, which meant we had to say goodbye to the Lau Group and set sail across Fiji. Usually Amy and I do our passages with just the two of us, but this time, we had some hitchhikers! Alifereti and Koroi, two villagers from Fulanga needed a ride to Suva for a conference so we offered to drop them off as we sailed to the west side of Viti Levu. This passage was a slight logistical challenge, with lots of islands in the way and light winds that shifted direction halfway through. My planning skills were put to the test and we got to try a few new sail combinations, including our spinnaker, which is always fun! But I think the biggest highlight of the trip was the GIANT Mahi-Mahi we caught. I was super glad to have some help reeling it in! All too soon we arrived in Suva and had to say goodbye to our new friends. We elected to stay for one night in order to fuel up and do some provisioning and then it was off for one more night around to Musket Cove. That brought us one step closer to Amy's family! Thanks for watching! (Footage from September 2017) Our Gear: Lots of people have been messaging us, asking about the gear we have on board Starry Horizons and what we use to film. We're still waiting on the weather to start warming up but we can still get ourselves as ready as possible for when it does. We start to work with the lumber that will become our deadwood and we shoot a propane tank to help us melt lead into the major divots on the ballast keel. We also have used this slow time of year to attend some shows and give some talks about what we are doing. We attended the Maine Boatbuilder's show in Portland ME, gave a talk to the MA chapter of the TSCA, met with R and W ropes (http://rigging.rwrope.com/) and Alix got to visit the Apprenticeshop (http://apprenticeshop.org/) in Rockland to meet with Joao Bentes. Joao is starting a project called Break the Anchor and is planning on building a traditional Portuguese sardine carrier, sail it across the Atlantic and set up an itinerant seafaring school in Portugal. Check out his site and project at http://breaktheanchor.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. The first part of any major renovation/refit is always demolition! This is the fun part. Tearing stuff apart! Equally as fun is putting it all back together, but we're not there yet. In this video we remove hardware from the deck of our 32 foot Endeavour sailboat. In the near future, we will be repainting the deck and rebedding all the hardware. Her deck is going to look beautiful once again and will more importantly be water tight! This is all just part of the the journey of sailing the world for us. We want to know our boat inside and out, and have fixed anything not up to par before setting off. Freebie will truly be "our boat" when we're done with her. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. Security on Sailboats-Sailboat Burglar Alarms DIY (Theft Prevention) for less than $10 (budget ideas) Stop theft on sailboats! These are some low budget sailboat alarms or thief deterrants to keep thieves away from sailboats and make things more secure. Sailboat Security Systems are sometimes hard to come by when you need them most, in remote islands where you suddenly find out that sailboats are being targeted for petty theft or for break ins. So you need to build your own boat alarm system To deter thieves... When we were in the Marshall Islands, and had to leave our boat to fly home, we knew we would be broken in to. We had no access to fancy burglar alarms or security systems for sailboats, on short notice, and had to leave the boat. So we devised our own sailboat burglar alarm, out of rat traps or mouse traps, threads, and a loud siren from the local police station. It worked. We were the first boat to not be broken in to after 11 prior break ins! Patrick shows you exactly how to build the same Low budget, low material burglar alarm for your own boat. He has a few other sailboat thief deterrents for your too! Please, start your Amazon shopping here: https://amzn.to/2K9MmuA September 2019 UPDATE: Brick House has decided to get a REAL high tech security system to protect from theft: Here is the system we have decided on: a modified GOST NT Evolution 2.0 from http://www.GOST.com. But the ideas for diy alarms in this video will still be used as another layer of security for our sailboat. Proceeds from this video will go to the Coral Reef Alliance, but you can also support me directly (and specifically the production of these videos) by becoming a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/theadventuresoftarka Tarka is a 1973 Albin Vega 27 (8.2m) that I bought sight-unseen and without sailing experience on the island of St. Martin in April of 2017. I was thrust head-first into ocean sailing as I got Tarka safely south from what would become the most devastating hurricane seasons on record. We are now working our way west towards the Pacific. I am sailing Tarka around the world to raise money and awareness for coral conservation by supporting the Coral Reef Alliance. We have had the electric Greenworks 40v lawnmower for 3 years now, have had no trouble, pull it out of storage in spring, mows through fall. I Florida I think we really put this mower to the test, we have the longest mowing season in the USA. Still, use the batteries it came with, still has enough charge to mow the whole yard. E91 Vlog of Life in a Nutshell sailing travels. Magnus manages to wrangle a tour of Sea Shepherd which came in to the marina well after dark and frightened the lot of us who were casually enjoying far too many marguerites on a neighbouring yacht. We get ready to leave our beloved Nutshell and take final measures to attempt to reduce the mould whilst we are away. The road finally reaches our hotel on the day that we leave and we head for the airport and three flights which will take us to Chicago and the beginning of the next adventure… Historic Route 66 Road Trip Across America from Chicago to Los Angeles. Music by Dixxy (https://soundcloud.com/dixxy-2) Really appreciate the support, check out the Patreon for more access and perks: https://www.patreon.com/FindingSimon If Patreon isn't your thing, I also have a Paypal.me link: paypal.me/ShelbyandSimon I've also created an Amazon Wish List if you'd like to purchase specific items I'll need as the build continues: http://a.co/dx7F4dz I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel to world.

We have not had these batteries very long but so far they are great. Have used them in to listen to the news with my Roku on the remote headset and so far so good. We were using NiMH batteries but after a short time, they would start failing. These batteries are the same price as the nimNiMH h, and they charge so fast. The 1000 charge cycles with still a lot of capacity left, will not need to replace these for a while, do have to buy more for the rest of my devices. I would not use these for electric door locks, smoke detectors, or any other device you when the battery gets low you know it. These batteries go from working at what seems 100%, to not working at all because of the safety circuits for the lithium cell. Update 1/04/2020: We are still using these batteries with no issues, life is still as long as the day we bought them. by HITRENDS Link: https://amzn.to/2nTtYbs You can also follow us on our blog: https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/ Or go directly to cooking: https://www.dininginwithdanielle.com If you have a request, please see our blog and go to contact. https://www.chrisdoeswhat.com/contact-us/ Current Video & Blog Productions: Florida Landscapes Explore Florida Recipes with Danielle DIY and HowTo Reviews Equipment: All videos are edited with Sony VEGAS Pro or Filmora Our video studio does have a green screen with umbrella lighting All recording equipment is Sony and our main camera is the HDR-CX675 offering servo steadied filming and 5.1 sound. After the video of our lead keel pour came out, we received a lot of comments regarding the safety of the pour and about concerns or contamination to the surrounding area. We did our best to get information regarding such issues and went as far as calling the EPA number as well a several local agencies, all to no avail. We basically kept getting told to stop wasting their time about this... so we took a friend up on her offer to inform us on what she knows and get the soil tested! As you can see from the video, we did not create any concerning contamination of lead to the soil, nor to ourselves. The soil levels were at 7mg/Kg and the accepted EPA amount is 400mg/Kg. We put out a call for any local black locust trees that may need removal. If you are interested in our offer to come cut it down and clear the remains (including the stump) and are within 1hour of Granby, MA (01033) please get in contact with us at: acorntoarabella@gmail.com Please be sure that the trees are Black Locust and not some other variant such as Honey Locust. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command.

***** For us, when we think of Fijian culture, we always go back to our time in Fulanga. Fulanga is one of the most remote inhabited islands we've ever been to. There's no airport. There's no cruise ships. The only tourists come via sailboat. And it is absolutely worth the trip. We completed our sevu sevu in the village of Monothaki and were adopted by one of the local families. Suka, Mary and Tui took us in, fed us until we couldn't eat anymore and made us feel so welcome. Another villager, Alifreti invited us to a kava party hosted at his home and it seemed like everywhere we went we were offered more and more coconuts. And we all know that's the way to Amy's heart! Not only were the people of Fulanga incredible, but the island is one of the most stunning we've ever seen as well. A drift snorkel through the entrance pass was quickly voted one of the best snorkels we've ever done. We found a "secret" beach that ended up being not so secret, but still had an amazing time exploring. Even though it was all too short, we'll always cherish the time we spent in Fulanga and the incredible people who make it such a special place. Thanks for watching! (Footage from September 2017) If you haven't seen any of the Surf Sail ROAM videos, you REALLY need to check them out.
