I'm a Canadian photographer from Ottawa who got rid of everything to travel the world. I make vlogs sharing my ups and downs, and my adventures in vans, on motorbikes, and on sailboats. - Who is Champ? Champ is my handsome 14-year-old Labrador, who travelled almost everywhere with me for his whole life. He loves chin scratches, fetching sticks, and scarfing down cheeseburgers and pizza. - What camera equipment do you use? I use a Panasonic FZ2500, a DJI Mavic Pro, a Rode video micro with Deadcat, a Zihyun Crane 3 Axis Gimbal, as well as DIY tripods and lights. - What are your vehicles? I drove a 1992 Dodge Ram B350 camper van all over North America for about two years. Travelling by motorcycle made for some unique trips. I explored the Canadian Maritimes (and deserts and backroads all over the continent) on a 2002 Kawasaki KL250 Super Sherpa dual sport bike, and also rode my 1999 Yamaha V-Star XVS1100 cruiser with a Champion Escort sidecar across my home country twice. From land to water travels: I currently live and work on a 1979 Wharram Oro 47 catamaran. - What are your plans with the boat? I will fix it up, run it on nothing but green electric power, and sail off into the sunset. Stay tuned for the growing build and the adventures to come! - How do you find all these cool places we see in the videos? To gain access to my complete research and the world traveller’s map I curate during my explorations off the beaten path, you need to hit me up on Patreon. Here are a few websites I frequent: https://freecampsites.net/, https://www.campendium.com/, http://www.atlasobscura.com/, https://www.couchsurfing.com/ - How do you afford your lifestyle? I live and travel economical by using free camping and mooring, cooking my own meals, thoroughly researching products and how-to’s online, practicing a DIY approach, and being as efficient as possible with my resources. I've struggled financially for most of my life, and although I'm blessed with helpful friends and family as well as being able-bodied, white and male, I don't subscribe to the belief that you need someone footing your bills in order to pursue your passion. So, I learned that you DO need to sacrifice comfort, consistency, safety, and a traditional career but that it IS possible, worth it, and the only lifestyle that makes me happy. I make my income almost entirely by creating content for YouTube, but it's a tight budget. Ad revenue, business sponsors, affiliate links, Patreon, Paypal donations, and merchandise sales bring in about as much as a part-time job, and I'm able to make that work. When it isn't enough, I go back to regular work such as photography, videography or construction, but that takes the focus away from my own projects. - How does your dog fit into this lifestyle? It's really not as difficult as people seem to think. I spend most of the day with Champ anyways, since we enjoy similar things, like eating food and being outdoors. I let the constraint of bringing my dog with me help me make decisions about where I go and what I do, so I avoid places that ban dogs, and therefore spend more time in nature instead of in cities. - How do you make it work as a digital nomad? My electrical power set-up allows charging my camera and laptop to film and edit almost daily. For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

This blog it's all about finishing off the Gulf of Patras and going through the Corinth Canal heading around to Epidavros and finally bringing the boat to Aegina. There's always a few maintenance issues and on this passage it was the toilet - or heads! We tried to get all our schooling done before we entered the Corinth canal doing some navigation and history related to the canal. The Corinth Canal is the most expensive canal to transit (per metre) in the world. We estimated maybe a hundred fifty but we never imagined it would be €315! Next Stop was Epidavros which was famous as a place of healing and for its theatre and the temple dedicated to Asklepion - God of healing. The kids told us how they felt about being there and it's always interesting and funny listening to their perspective Back at the boat there was more maintenance and some shopping to be done. We also bumped into a Czech couple and we were able to practice some Czech language. After an exhausting shopping trip on the bike, we headed to Aegina. The kids occupied themselves with turtle spotting and making models, before finding a nice anchorage just of Aegina harbour. We got the dinghy and paddle board out and had some fun.. and our youngest finally got to grips with rowing. Aegina is a really busy port it's so close to Athens and it was complete chaos. However, we found an engineer to fix our generator.. again. This time it was a relay replacement. So one job finishes and another one starts and as we were trying to mouse a line for the mizzen halyard we lost the halyard through the mast! We had to return to the UK to collect some spares and also sort out our VHF our AIS system and also to get the children Czech citizenship and apply for Czech passports. I've already got Czech citizenship but I wanted to organize it for children because when UK leaves Europe we thought it'd be good to have European passports. Normally, in Aegina there are loads of ferries coming and going. But the day before we were about to leave there was a ferry strike. So in the end we managed to get a hydrofoil and left woody behind to look after boat. We hit Vegas and stay in one of the oldest establishments there, Circus Circus Casino. The RV park is in a great location at the end of the ‘strip’. We take a 10 kilometre saunter along the strip and check out the sights and sounds. We then continue on the last leg of Route 66 heading for the Santa Monica Pier, which marks the end of this incredible journey. Here’s some of the stuff we came across and places we stopped at along the way: Cool Springs Gas Station, Oldham, the famous Roy's Motel Cafe, Amboy, California, Amboy Crater, Ludlow Cafe, The Two 66 Sixes Company, Polly Gas Station, Riverside Cement Company, Mohawk Mini Mart, Mojave River Bridge, Rancho Jurupa Park, Madonna of the Trail, Upland, Wolfe's Market Kitchen and Deli, La Paloma Mexican Restaurante, Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse, and the Azusa Foothill Drive-In Theater Marque. That’s Route 66, done and dusted. We’ve got a spare week up our sleeve, before we need to head back to Australia, so we thought, instead of twiddling our thumbs, we might as well do something.

We have most of the Oxidation from our boat gel coat and the floor is out. With just a little TLC we have seen a great improvement in our 2004 Bayliner Bowrider 175 boat. We still keep taking things off the boat like the rub rail and discover more areas that need attention. My wife and I will keep working, me doing the heavy lifting, her with the eye for design. It is great too, as a couple, to be able to work together as a team. Only having this boat for a short time, we have made great progress on the restore. Still worried about the engine in this boat and the hidden issues still below the surface. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider. Fellow boaters - I'm thrilled to share my latest project with you: MaintenanceROS! Crafted from my experiences aboard Starry Horizons, it's designed to simplify vessel and maintenance management, making life on the water even more enjoyable. Explore https://MaintenanceROS.com and enjoy an exclusive 20% discount for the first 6 months using promo code 'outchasingstars'. Seamlessly manage your boat's upkeep – let's embark on this journey together! ***** When you think of New Caledonia and other French territories, your mind immediately goes to cheese, baguettes, wine, pate and all the other French delicacies. So imagine our surprise to find a grocery store full of Mexican food! After redeeming ourselves with a 1st place finish sailing down from Vanuatu, we spent quite a bit of time exploring Noumea, the big city in New Caledonia. Part of that was by choice as we needed to provision and wanted to watch Game 7 of the World Series (Go Astros!) and part wasn't. Let's just say being sick is no fun. Once all was on the mend, we set out to do a bit of exploring of the area known as the Southern Lagoon. Our first stop was at the gorgeous Îlot Maître where the water was crystal clear and we got to watch turtles and rays swim around Starry Horizons. A bit of calmer weather was needed to head down to the Amédée lighthouse and check out the first metal lighthouse ever built by the French. It was actually pretty cool, but I could have done without all the snakes! Thanks for watching! (Footage from Oct/Nov 2017) As Amy mentioned, we're doing another t-shirt campaign! This one will ship internationally and all proceeds are going to the Tangaroa Blue Foundation. The campaign is running for about one more week, so be sure to order soon! https://www.bonfire.com/out-chasing-stars-shirts-ocean-clean-up/ Learn more about the Tangaroa Blue Foundation here: https://www.tangaroablue.org/ Check out current updates on where we are and what we're doing on our blog and Facebook page: Blog: www.outchasingstars.com FB: www.facebook.com/outchasingstars/ Our Gear: Lots of people have been messaging us, asking about the gear we have on board Starry Horizons and what we use to film. This is more of a maintenance video, as the Hood Formula electric mainsail furler we disassembled in the previous episode is reassembled, painted, installed, and used. There is a real skill set to using in-mast furling systems of all types, and I list some tips on these at the end.

Ryan bought a plane ticket, rented a car, and took a one week visit to come from Colorado to Massachusetts to help us on our project... for free! Thank you Ryan. We were curious as to what he thought of his week here and everything we accomplished. Also! We will be sawmilling for the next couple of weeks and could use as many hands on deck as possible. If you've expressed interest in coming out and helping on the project, now would be an excellent time. Please contact us via email: acorntoarabella@gmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve and Alix started as amateur boat builders building their own 38' wooden boat in their backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project will continue well past launch, when they will travel and learn to cruise aboard the boat that they've built. We head south! We have things to fix on the boat that require it to be out of the water. Unfortunately for us, the nearest place that both allows DIY (mostly) and can haul out a 23ft wide boat is in St Augustine Florida about 200 miles away. We end up on the ICW most of the way down due to weather but we make it there with a few "adventures" on the way.. http://bit.ly/jandr-patreon Get a t-shirt(or 3!): http://bit.ly/HonuBrandTeeSpring ------------------------------------------------- Free floorplan tool: http://bit.ly/floorplantool Our Instagram: @jessicaandryanadventures Arya's Instagram: @arya.samoyed Our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/jessicaandryanadventures Feel free to send us any questions to: jessicaandryanadventures@gmail.com

Ep 99 | Grand Canyon Boondocking, Indian Country, Arizona, Route 66 RV Road Trip USA, Vlog of Life in a Nutshell RV travels. We continue our journey across America on Route 66, the Mother Road. We come across a strange phenomenon along the way, there are dinosaurs everywhere! We pass rocks, petrified forests and huge lava fields. We make a short side trip to the Grand Canyon and admire its majestic beauty up close. We explore the town of Seligman which, we were told, was the first Route 66 town to take up a government grant for restoration. It’s a town of colour and life and plenty of Route 66 paraphernalia. Here’s some of the stuff we came across and places we stopped at along the way: Enchanted Trails RV Park & Trading Post, Rio Puerco Bridge, Roarin' 20s, Marias Hollywood Diner, Charlie's Radiator Service, Los Alamitos Motel, White Arrow Garage, St Joseph's Church, Whiting Brothers Gas Station, Cathedral Rock Campground, Blue Spruce Motel, Lariat Lodge, Desert Skies Motel, Holbrook, El Rancho Motel, Pow Wow Rocks, Jim Gray's Petrified Wood, Wigwam Motel, Corner of Winslow in Arizona, Meteor City Trading Post, Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort, Dog Haus, Parks in the Pines General Store, Goldie's Route 66 Diner, Rod's Steak House, Copper State Motel, Hi-Line Motel, Stagecoach 66 Motel and Snow Cap in Seligman. Thanks for traveling along with us. In this video we visit Somniun, our old O'day 272 sailboat, and give you guys an update on what Taylor, her new owner, is doing with her. Turns out, he's gutted the boat, dropped in an electric motor, and plans on using a Tesla battery to power it. He's also applying Coppercoat antifouling to the bottom and we offered to lend a hand. Coppercoat is a permanent, epoxy-based hard antifouling that uses suspended copper in the resin to ward off growth. It supposedly lasts over 10 year, so once applied, you don't have to keep pulling your sailboat and applying new antifouling every season. More information on Coppercoat can be found at the link below. http://coppercoat.com/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. For this reason our channel is very DIY focused, with the goal to show anyone watching that a lot is possible if you're not afraid to make some mistakes along the way. Please leave a like and comment if you've enjoyed the video, and subscribe if you haven't already.

For Internet access quick and reliable enough to upload my episodes a few at a time, I use coffee shops and libraries. I also use a data package on my phone (10GB), a WiFi antenna, and a WiFi booster.

A lot of Rot in this Bayliner Bowrider 175, we are cutting out and digging out all the soft spots Boat restoration gets bigger the more we dig and discover, but we think we are up for the challenge. We hope to learn from this project as it fits well with our bigger dream. It did not look as bad as it was when we bought it, the last owner was good at covering up the mess. Don't know how many times I have read where the last owner painted the turd, but it's still a turd. The great thing about knowing a boat is this rough is that we can fix things because we are going over everything. I have talked with people that have spent 7 times more than we did on a boat, only to need to repair an engine and fix soft spots. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider. Ep 98 | Marble Brewery Tour, Albuquerque, Route 66 USA, Vlog of Life in a Nutshell RV travels. We pop into the Marble Brewery and are just in time for a tour. The brewery was on a much larger scale than our tour of the Angry Goat Brewery in Costa Rica which started its life as a garage setup. The tour gave us an insight into the machinery and systems of a larger brewery. We hope you enjoy this video of the tour. Installed the Seaflo bilge pump and the first day of testing in our boat and we love it. May get another one just to have a spare in the bilge, at $29 it does not cost much. Danielle's biggest fears on the ocean are sinking and sharks, this pumps water out of the boat faster than a water hose can put it in. By the way, my biggest fear of the ocean is seasickness and other people's carelessness. In this video, we fill the bilge of our Bayliner Bowrider 175 boat with water and then pump it out, the flow of water out of the boat was amazing. The pump had a mild hum so you could tell it was working if you did not see the huge flow of the water out of the boat. This was the highest flow pump we could get, at 750gph without having to go to a larger hose pumped into the boat. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider 175. Despite the arrival of Spring, weather just doesn't seem to want to let up. We've been struggling with the weather so as to start painting the keel timber and the ballast keel. With temps too cold to work on that, we switch gears and start working on the Bow and Stern timbers. Everything is a step forward! We also got help from one of our patrons who came all the way from Colorado to help for the week. Thank you Ryan!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella is a boat building project taking place in Granby, Massachusetts. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and beyond—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that wooden boats command. The preparations for the 4100 Nm sail to Hawaii continues in Papagayo, Costa Rica, with boat maintenance, provisioning and other things. We make a trip to Tamarindo and then we find an uninvited guest onboard in the middle of the night. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us. WANT MORE? Plenty of Route 66 icons on this stretch. We constantly felt like we were in Disneyland! We leave Texas behind and make our way to Albuquerque and a thirst quenching beer. We sample a few ales at the Marble Brewery. Mixed reviews, but a few gooduns in there. Here’s some of the stuff we came across along the way: Conway, Sundown Motel, Wagon Wheel Motel, Cowboy Motel, Cadillac Ranch RV Park, Cadillac Ranch, Magnolia Petroleum Company, Fabulous 40 Motel, Ken's Ice Cream Sandwiches, Route 66 Motel, Kiva RV Park, Palomino Motel, Del's Restaurant, Roadrunner Lodge, Tucumcari, Blue Swallow Motel, Motel Safari, Drive Inn Outlaw Tattoo, Trails West Lounge, Americana Motel, Restaurant, Aqua Car Wash, Garage, Rubee's Diner, Pow Wow Inn, Home of Quality Food Drive-Inn, Buckaroo Motel, Rio Pecos Ranch Truck Terminal, Sun n Sand Motel, Sunset Motel, Joseph's Bar & Grill, La Loma Motel, Club Cafe, Bobby's Trading Post, Glorieta Pass, King's Rest Court Inn, Western Scene Motel, Cottonwood Court Motel, Marble Brewery, Albuquerque. We hope you are enjoying the RV journey so far. We’ve seen so much and are having a ball. Next time we’ll give you a peak at the workings of the Marble Brewery, Albuquerque. An amazing place and a far cry from the garage style, Angry Goat Brewery in the Coconutz Sportz Bar in Costa Rica! Thanks for traveling along with us. We motor our Endeavour 32 from St. Petersburg to Port Charlotte to be hauled out at Charlotte Harbor Boat Storage and trucked over to J & R Marine. This trip was a little risky because we had to go offshore in a boat that doesn't have portlights, grab rails, deck hardware, or sails rigged. We prepared by making sure we had an active Boat US and EPirb membership should anything happen along the way. We also made sure to have a good weather window. The trip went great. One thing I wanted to mention that isn't in the video is that we added a hazard to the location in Active Captain where we hit the object in the canal on the way to Charlotte Harbor Boar Storage. Now hopefully anyone using Active Captain will see it and hopefully not hit it like we did. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not-A-Broker Consulting: https://www.patreon.com/notabrokerconsulting Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/learningthelines/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/learningthelines/ Sail Life: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5xDht2blPNWdVtl9PkDmgA ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. ***** After a rough passage from Fiji, we were looking forward to exploring a new country. We only ended up staying for 5 days, but Port Resolution in Vanuatu definitely didn't disappoint. The big reason for visiting was the chance to hike Mt. Yasur. Oh, and did I mention that it is an ACTIVE volcano?! Standing along the rim, listening to the eruptions and watching molten hot lava and ash spewing out in front us, did cause me to rethink a few of my life priorities. In addition to the volcano, we also managed to find a couple unique Vanuatu cultural experiences. The first was thank to a local woman by the name of Mawi who was starting a business that demonstrated to cruisers the traditional way of making laplap, a dietary staple. The second was a real kava ceremony, complete with the more powerful Vanuatu kava. And these villagers don't take the easy way out and pound it to prepare it. No, no... They chewed it for us. The resulting drink was much stronger than what I'd tasted before and I was glad that there were a few other friends to experience it with me. Thanks for watching! Figured while we had the engine torn down in our inboard outboard boat, it was the best time to replace the bilge pump on this sterndrive Bayliner. The bilge pump started smoking when we were washing the boat out and filled the bilge with water. It was a scramble to get it unplugged so it would not damage any wiring more than it was. This is a dirty job, but a must to keep water out of the boat when it is in the ocean. If you want to see the new bilge pump in action stay tuned for the next video. We will install and run a larger bilge pump because we really don't want to sink. Follow along as we breath new life into this 2004 Bayliner Bowrider.
