In this episode of The Sailing Doodles Podcast, I dive into one of the biggest decisions I’ve ever made… going all-electric with the new catamaran. Why did I choose an electric propulsion system? How does it compare to boats like Fountaine Pajot’s electric cats? What are the real risks — lightning, reliability, long-term maintenance? And what spares and tools will I be carrying to prepare for worst-case scenarios? Then we pivot into your most asked personal questions… – Will there be rotating crew in Thailand? – What’s happening with Flying Doodles and Emma? – Can I get my pilot’s license back? – Does Chloe ever get tired of keeping her real name private? – And yes… how dating works when you’re constantly moving. We also talk YouTube growth “experts,” long-term life plans, the Bronco, and my favorite episode I’ve ever created. Big changes ahead. Let’s get into it.
Checking the chainplates on your sailboat is one of those maintenance tasks that sounds intimidating — but in reality, it’s fairly straightforward for most boats. In this video, we walk through the process of inspecting your chainplates with the mast in place, what signs of corrosion or fatigue to look for, and how to spot potential problems before they become expensive (or dangerous) failures. A careful inspection can give you real peace of mind knowing your standing rigging is secure and ready for the season. Regular chainplate checks are a critical part of smart sailboat maintenance and offshore preparation. Whether you cruise locally or head offshore, knowing the condition of your rigging components matters. Hi and welcome aboard @SailingAstridTheWombat We are Gav and Shezz and two and a half years ago we bought our Beneteau Oceanis 430 sailboat with absolutely no sailing experience and jumped straight into the deep end of liveaboard sailing. Our very first passage was just over 700 nautical miles, launching us headfirst into the world of bluewater cruising, learning to sail, and real life at sea. Since that moment, we’ve been fully immersed in boat life, documenting the journey of turning a production cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we prepare for full-time liveaboard life. From major sailboat upgrades and off-grid power systems to everyday maintenance and skills building, we’re learning what it truly takes to own, sail, and live on a boat while working toward our goal of sailing around the world. If you’re into sailing adventures, beginner sailing, sailboat ownership, cruising lifestyle, and traveling the world by sailboat, our journey is all about real-time learning, ocean freedom, and building the confidence to chase long-term world cruising under sail. In this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey, we explore the incredible coastline of Moreton Island and climb to the top of the famous sandhills for one of the most breathtaking views we’ve ever seen from our cruising sailboat. After sailing across the bay and anchoring off this wild and remote island, we head ashore to experience the natural beauty that makes this destination so special for sailors, cruisers, and lovers of boat life. Living as liveaboard sailors, we’re constantly reminded that some of the most unforgettable experiences come from places you can only truly reach by boat. Moreton Island is a dream stop for anyone interested in coastal cruising, anchoring in remote locations, and combining sailing adventures with land exploration. From the water, the towering sandhills look surreal — but climbing to the top reveals sweeping views of the ocean, coastline, and our tiny floating home anchored below. This episode captures the heart of cruising life and slow travel by sailboat. We leave the boat behind for a few hours, hike through soft sand, and take in the raw, untouched landscape that makes island sailing and world travel by sailboat so unique. It’s moments like this that balance the practical side of sailboat ownership — maintenance, upgrades, and passage planning — with the adventure and freedom that come with life at sea. If you’re interested in liveaboard sailing, beginner sailing, sailboat living, or you’re a sailboat owner dreaming of bigger adventures, this episode shows the lifestyle side of bluewater cruising. It’s not just about miles sailed; it’s about the places your boat can take you — hidden beaches, dramatic landscapes, and views you have to earn. We are preparing our boat and ourselves for sailing around the world, and experiences like this are a huge part of that journey. Exploring islands, anchoring off remote shores, and discovering nature from our floating home is what liveaboard cruising life is all about. Follow along as we share real boat life, sailing adventures, and the path toward full-time world cruising — one anchorage, one island, and one unforgettable view at a time. I flew to Mexico to visit my sailboat Karl — and to make a decision about his future. This episode dives into my world around solo sailing / solo boat life. The quiet problem-solving. The unexpected encounters. The freedom of figuring things out on my own. And the emotional weight of deciding whether it’s time to let go. While troubleshooting a stubborn starter motor, flushing the cooling system, and tackling small boat projects under time pressure, I was reminded why solo sailing has shaped me so deeply. But the biggest question wasn’t mechanical. It was personal. Is it time to sell Karl? This week forced me to reflect on what this boat truly represents in my life — and whether the growth I found here lives in him… or in me. In this episode: – DIY starter motor troubleshooting – Marine diesel engine problem solving – Boat maintenance & cooling system flush – The beauty (and reality) of solo boat life – And one hard decision about Karl If you’ve ever struggled with letting go of something that once changed your life, this one might resonate. Facing the challenges of solo sailing as a female sailor, I navigated the highs and lows of single-handed sailing while tackling DIY boat repair projects, from engine fixes to full boat refits on a budget. My life aboard was a mix of adventure and reflection, shaping an independent woman’s story of resilience, personal growth, and embracing the sailing lifestyle. Along the way, I became an ocean conservation activist with In Mocean, stumbled across my dog Boga, and discovered the joys and challenges of sailing with a dog. Now, I’m exploring a new chapter, having jumped aboard my partner’s Hallberg Rassy Rasmus with Boga and his Australian Kelpie, Jango. Together, we face the unique dynamics and challenges of sailing as a couple, balancing off-grid life, sustainable sailing, and the demands of long-term cruising. A quick technical breakdown of jib sheet lead angle and the function of the clue board. The hole you select on the clue board determines the vertical angle of the jib sheet. This angle controls the draft and twist of the sail by changing where the sheet's force is applied relative to the sail's center of effort. In short: The line from the block should lead roughly to the jib's center of effort for balanced trim on a given point of sail. Selecting the wrong hole will incorrectly flatten the foot or over-tighten the leech, hurting performance. Winter in Newfoundland keeps us busy. This week aboard Arabella, the harbor ice tightens around the boat and we’re forced to break up 4-inch ice to relieve pressure on the lines. After adjusting the bubbler and freeing the stern, we trade ice spuds for skis and head into deep Canadian powder for Robin’s first “Canadian turns.” Back on board, Steve dives into a major sailmaking project—building new Sunbrella stack packs with mesh ventilation, improved drainage, and cleaner stitching than the originals that made it all the way to the Dry Tortugas and back. Then winter hits hard. A massive snowstorm collapses the shed back in Massachusetts, burying the tools used to build Arabella. Four flights later, Steve is digging through two feet of snow to salvage what he can. From frozen harbors and whiteout skiing to sewing sail covers and emergency storm damage—this is winter boat life in Newfoundland. #WinterSailing #LiveaboardLife #BoatLife #Newfoundland #Skiing #Sailmaking -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. After buying a 57ft abandoned Kelsall catamaran at auction, we committed to a full DIY catamaran rebuild…learning as we go and racing a VERY thin deadline. Now we have less than five days left in the boatyard before this sailing catamaran goes back in the water. Rudders to fit. Antifoul to roll. Steering system to finalise. The final stretch of this abandoned boat restoration is here! We’ve got a working bee of new friends on the job, some good tunes to get us through and a sealift date we have to honour. In this episode, I sail close to shore and squeeze a narrow area between rocks. I like sailing close to shore when the wind is light. Being able to sail in constricted areas is an essential boat-handling skill and worthwhile to practice when the right conditions present themselves. In this case, the winds were light and coming from my stern, so I felt comfortable slowly passing through these narrow areas. Would you feel comfortable sailing between these rocks? Do you think I'm taking unnecessary chances? Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Why I Chose This Boat, Antifouling & the First Real Step Toward a Solo Circumnavigation - Ep 35 [EN]
🌊 Join me, Jacqueline Evers, as my boat comes out of the water at Marina Muiderzand in Almere, on the shores of the IJsselmeer. This moment marks the very beginning of the practical preparations for my solo circumnavigation, planned for July 2023. In this video, I show the start of essential maintenance: renewing the antifouling. It may seem like a simple task, but it is the foundation of everything that follows. I also share why I chose this boat. Listening to boat experts and following my heart. This video is not just about maintenance — it’s about choosing a boat, committing to a dream, and taking the first grounded steps toward a new life at sea. 💙 Love my videos? Self-tacking jibs seem like magic—just turn the wheel and the sail does all the work. But the reality is far more complicated. In this video, we break down the engineering, the compromises, and the hard truths about self-tacking jib systems on board a Gunboat 66. From curved tracks and sheeting angles to friction points and the dreaded "outforce" lines, we explore why some systems work beautifully and others leave you fighting the helm. What we cover: Why your self-tacker might not actually self-tack The critical difference between curved and straight tracks Why the sheet lead position changes everything The friction problem (and why some systems are doomed) How to spot a good setup vs. a bad compromise Whether you're shopping for a new boat, upgrading your rig, or just trying to understand why your jib keeps sticking in the middle of a tack, this video lays out the truth. Episode 255 We pick things up 40 miles into our day passage from Crookhaven to Manly in Sydney. The first anchorage we spot is Quarantine Bay, so we swing in and end up exploring one of the most fascinating pieces of Sydney’s maritime history — the place where new arrivals were once isolated and checked for diseases before entering Australia. Back on board, we tackle what should’ve been a quick DIY job… and of course it unravels into a hilarious mess of tools, mistakes, and pure boat‑life chaos. HARBOR LOCKDOWN at LAS VELAS. Logic dictated a standard departure for our friends, but the sub-surface reality was a mission-critical threat to the fleet. The Navy ran aground in the harbor before a ship even hit the reef, eventually forcing authorities to string cables across the harbor entrance. On SV Agua Azul, we don't have the luxury of a tow. If the NAVIGATION CHANNEL is obstructed by Navy cables, the logic flow stops. This is the forensic truth of DOMINICAN HARBOR LOGISTICS. . THE REVEAL 🔓 DIY FAILS. To restore the system miles from a chandlery, we spent the weekend troubleshooting local failures. We secured the INVERTER with custom-cut boards so the gear doesn't fall over on passage and executed a forensic fix on a leaking AC unit using DOUBLE HOSE CLAMPS to stop salt water from dripping onto the electronics. This was a sub-surface necessity to keep The Nest operational while the local infrastructure failed. . THE CLIFFHANGER ⏳ 11:36. The situation evolved into a survival risk during the SUPER BOWL. We skipped the WOKE HALFTIME SHOW—refusing to participate in the Bad Bunny narrative—and watched the KID ROCK HALFTIME SHOW on the tablet at the table instead. The logic pivoted from standard procedure into survival logic as we navigated the "halftime soon" local atmosphere and currency rejections at the liquor store. Watch as the mission enters a hard limit. . THE BUTT PUCKER RATING: 4/5 🍑 CONTEXT: SQUEEZE: Watching your dog lose the ability to walk due to a government-mandated vaccine reaction while your friends are trapped in the harbor by Navy cables and a "woke" halftime show is the only thing on the local TV. . 💬 VETERAN & SAILOR DEBRIEF: Ever had to stream your own halftime show because the "woke" version was too much to stomach? Crossing international waters was meant to be smooth sailing… but that’s not how boat life works. In this episode, we face complete engine failure at sea, leaving us troubleshooting fuel systems, bleeding lines, and hoping she starts again. But that was just the beginning. A few days later our toilet pump stopped working (and yes… that’s as inconvenient as it sounds). Then our watermaker failed, and with six people onboard, fresh water becomes very important, very fast. Just when we thought we were in the clear, we had to jump in and swim under the boat to fix our blocked speedometer, scraping out barnacles and cleaning the hull so we could sail smoothly again. This is the real side of sailing life , constant maintenance, problem solving, and learning as we go. It’s not always sunsets and calm seas… but we wouldn’t trade it for anything. Next up: we sail back down the coast of Thailand toward Malaysia for our big haul out. Next Dimension is in exceptional condition, well maintained with low hours and light use. She is hull 54 in this popular Nordhavn 40 series. Pricing, detailed specifications and photos are available on https://www.JMYS.com Inspections are by appointment only. This video was filmed in Beaufort, NC in January of 2026. Next Dimension is a second generation (built by South Coast in China). The consumption entry document from when she was newly imported into the US (CBP-7501) will be handed to the buyer. The first 45 hulls were built by Pacific Seacraft in California. All Nordhavn 40s are born from the same tooling, but PAE, the parent company of Nordhavn, differentiates the two versions in this series as Mark I US made, and Mark II China built. This design has generous interior accommodations (saloon and galley on the entry level, raised pilothouse and two staterooms with one head on the lower level) and a seakindly ride through the water. Next Dimension was ordered with the optional fly bridge, which provides an excellent outdoor area above the pilothouse for taking command underway or relaxing when at rest. The saloon is spacious because it is pushed out on both sides, no wasted space filled with rarely used walking side decks. The entry level merges the saloon into the galley with a set of stairs up to the raised pilothouse or down to the accommodations deck. The owner stateroom is forward, there is a shared head and shower and the guest stateroom has two bunk berths. The engine room is surprisingly spacious, benefitting from the proprietary “maintenance strakes” in the hull mold that provides additional headroom on both sides of the main engine. Systems and equipment are selected and installed for reliability and service ease. The pilothouse is arranged for optimal operation with good sight lines and easy to reach controls. The flybridge adds a second command station and the tender is mounted on the boat deck, launched by the mast and boom. For stabilization, she has both paravane outriggers and active fin stabilizers. The Nordhavn 40 is a full displacement trawler that was designed and built to transit oceans. A sistership completed a 26-week circumnavigation in 2001 (with listing broker Jeff Merrill crewing a leg). The Nordhavn 40 design is the smallest passage maker built by PAE and boasts a 3,000 mile range. Most Nordhavn 40 owners are “owner operators” who enjoy the reliability of this design and savor time aboard, planning, traveling and resting at anchor. For additional information visit: https://www.Nordhavn40.com to learn more about this great design and review previous Nordhavn 40’s that JMYS has marketed. There are several other Nordhavn 40 videos that Jeff Merrill has filmed – these remain online published on our YouTube channel for those doing their research. Be sure to keep an eye out for what might pop up next on https://www.Nordhavn40forsale.com and we invite you to join our email list to get new listing notifications. DIY Stovetop Cabin Heater: https://www.practical-sailor.com/belowdecks-amenities/cabin-comfort/diy-stovetop-cabin-heater/ Living on a boat off-grid sounds simple until you actually try it. No shore power. No marina hookups. No endless electricity. Just batteries, solar, systems, and the constant question of whether everything will last until morning. In this video, we break down what living on a boat off-grid is really like, and the things no one explains clearly when they talk about cruising life. This isn’t a fantasy highlight reel. It’s a practical look at how people actually manage power, water, airflow, and daily life while living aboard without being plugged in. We cover real off-grid boat tips including: – How to minimize electricity use without sacrificing comfort – Why heating water and cooking with propane saves massive amounts of power – When to use electric water heaters so solar can replace the energy immediately – Why oversizing solar production matters more than giant battery banks – How air conditioning destroys off-grid energy budgets and what works instead – Smart ventilation using wind scoops, dorades, hatches, and airflow paths – Phantom power loads that quietly drain batteries overnight – Why hard switches and DC systems matter offshore – The real power draw of inverters and satellite internet systems like Starlink If you’re thinking about living on a sailboat full-time, cruising off-grid, or anchoring without shore power, this video will help you understand what actually works, what quietly fails, and how experienced liveaboards plan their systems and daily habits. Off-grid boat life isn’t about deprivation. It’s about understanding energy, timing your loads, and building systems that work with nature instead of fighting it. During our overnight passage, we discovered that our navigation lights weren’t working, so we began troubleshooting to figure out whether the bulb had failed or if the wiring had corroded. After running into a bigger issue than expected, we decided to pause the project until we can get the right parts. Thankfully, we had a much more exciting reason for coming to Moorea: swimming with the humpback whales. And what a welcome distraction it was! We joined Dr. Poole for a half-day whale tour and spent hours in the water with a mother and her calf. Getting to be so close to them—after waiting an entire year for this moment—was absolutely unforgettable. #HumpbackWhales, #WhaleEncounter, #SwimmingWithWhales, #BoatingLife, #SailingAdventure, #MarineLife, #OceanExploration, #BoatMaintenance, #NavLightTroubleshooting, #FrenchPolynesia, #AdventureAtSea, #WildlifeCloseUp, #TravelVlog, #OceanAdventure, #SailingVlog, #boatprojects NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! In this video, I showcase custom marine displays built using an ESP32, powered by SignalK data and designed specifically for flexible, modern boat instrumentation. These displays feature custom gauge designs, dynamic icons, alerting, and web-based configuration, making them ideal for upgrading older boats or building fully bespoke marine dashboards. What’s covered in this project: ✅ Using an ESP32 to drive marine displays ✅ Pulling live data from a SignalK server ✅ Designing custom digital gauges ✅ Dynamic icons that change based on conditions ✅ Alerting and warnings for critical data ✅ Web-based configuration (no reflashing required) This approach allows you to build modern, responsive marine displays using low-cost hardware and open standards — perfect for sailors who want full control over their boat electronics without proprietary systems. ⚓ Ideal for: • DIY marine electronics projects • SignalK users • ESP32 & embedded developers • Sailboat refits and custom dashboards • Open-source boat tech enthusiasts If you enjoy DIY boat tech, ESP32 projects, and open marine systems, consider subscribing — more builds and walkthroughs coming. Is this the best budget catamaran on the market, or a floating money pit? We found a Fountaine Pajot Mahi 36 Evolution listed for a suspiciously low price. On paper, it’s a capable bluewater cruiser with twin engines and a solid layout. So why is the market ignoring it? In this video, we investigate the 5 Reasons Why This Catamaran is So Cheap: The Size Trap: Why 36-foot cats are disappearing from the market. The "Ex-Charter" Stigma: Does a rental history ruin a boat's value? Layout Dealbreakers: Why the 3-cabin version kills resale potential. The Multihull Tax: The hidden costs of maintaining two hulls and two engines. The Secret Value: Why smart sailors are buying these boats anyway. If you are looking for an affordable catamaran to live aboard or cruise the world, you need to watch this breakdown. ⏱️ CHAPTERS: 00:00 Intro: A Suspiciously Cheap Catamaran 01:08 1. In this episode of our liveaboard sailing journey, we leave our peaceful anchorage and sail back to the marina — shifting from island life to the reality of boat jobs and preparing our sailboat for long-term world cruising. This is the true rhythm of liveaboard sailboat life: sail, maintain, improve, repeat. After spending time at anchor living the off-grid sailing life, it’s time to get stuck into the smaller tasks that come with owning and living on a sailboat. While the big upgrades might be done, boat maintenance never stops, and every job we complete gets us one step closer to our goal of sailing around the world. From system checks and minor repairs to ongoing improvements, this episode shows the practical side of cruising sailboat ownership. We sail back across the bay, enjoying the simple pleasure of being under sail, before tying up at the marina where the tools come back out. This is real liveaboard cruising life — balancing adventure with responsibility and learning what it truly takes to prepare a bluewater cruising sailboat for offshore passages and long-term travel. If you’re interested in sailboat living, beginner sailing, boat ownership, or you’re a sailboat owner working through your own project list, this episode will feel very familiar. There’s always something to fix, adjust, clean, or improve when you live on a boat, and these small jobs are just as important as the major upgrades when it comes to safety, reliability, and comfort at sea. Our journey is all about turning our cruising sailboat into a capable, self-sufficient home as we work toward full-time liveaboard sailing and traveling the world by sailboat. These marina days may not be as glamorous as tropical anchorages, but they are a vital part of the cruising lifestyle and what makes long-term offshore sailing possible. Follow along as we show the behind-the-scenes side of boat life, the constant learning curve of liveaboard sailors, and the steady progress toward our dream of sailing around the world — one small boat job at a time. Join us now as we settle into liveaboard life and get our boat ready to take off and sail around the world. As new sailors we want to share all of our learnings and keep it real in our videos. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. We promise you will have a laugh! Winter has fully set in around Arabella in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland—the harbor is freezing, ice sheets are moving with the tide, and keeping the boat safe becomes a daily task. This week we show how we protect a liveaboard sailboat in icy conditions using a deicer (bubbler system) and even a floating log to shield the hull from shifting ice. Once the boat is secured, we head out for two unique ice climbing days on Newfoundland’s west coast. First, we climb a 200-foot frozen waterfall and rappel using V-threads—leaving nothing behind on the ice. Then we top-rope surreal sea cliffs formed by freezing ocean spray at Bottle Cove, where ice crashes directly into the Atlantic below. From winter boat maintenance to safe rappelling techniques, ice screw anchors, autoblocks, and climbing over ocean waves, this week blends cold-weather sailing life with technical ice climbing in one of Canada’s most dramatic coastal landscapes. -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Just kidding about all that, this channel is about a Siberian Laika named Akiva. -------------------------- If you are interested in supporting/helping here are a few ways: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/how-to-help Acorn to Arabella's wishlist: https://www.acorntoarabella.com/wishlistpriority TotalBoat supports A2A! After 73 days in the boatyard…the rudder saga finally ends. We designed them. Second-guessed them. Stressed about foam compression. Ripped off Coosa board. Glassed them. Sanded until our arms stopped working. And then realised the boat wasn’t even high enough to fit them. Classic. In this episode we’re finally finishing our DIY catamaran rudders on our 57ft abandoned catamaran - testing our bearings, setting our 6mm hull gap, bogging, fairing and doing everything we can to make sure these blades are ready for launch in 7 days. This is the last major job standing between us and the water. We’ve lived on a steel Adams 35 for five years, steel fabrication we understand. Fibreglass rudders with coosa board and H115 foam cores ? That’s been a STEEP learning curve. Huge thanks to Riley, Callum, Dayne and the team at Ocean Degree at The Boat Works for helping us through the glassing phase - and to our mates who continue to lend tools, time and moral support as this deadline looms. Seven days. Very little energy left. But these rudders are going on - one way or another!! _____________________________________________________________________________ For ad-free and early release episodes, behind the scenes content and live updates, check out our Patreon! This week we continue heading south on the Intracoastal Waterway, making our way toward Palm Beach, Florida. What starts as a fairly normal cruising day quickly turns into something much more confronting. Between boat jobs like waterproofing our cushions and settling into life underway again, we’re hit with a scary reminder of how unpredictable life aboard can be when Nala suddenly becomes unwell and we have to rush her to the vet. It’s the kind of moment no cruising pet owner ever wants to face — and one that forces us to think seriously about what could happen when we’re far more remote. With a Pacific crossing on the horizon, this experience becomes a wake-up call about preparedness, medical planning, and the realities of life at sea when help isn’t just around the corner. This episode is a mix of cruising, boat maintenance, and real life — the good, the stressful, and everything in between. ⛵ Sailing south on the ICW 🐾 A health scare with Nala 🛠️ Boat jobs & preparations 🌊 Preparing mentally for the Pacific Thanks for being here and supporting our journey — it truly means the world to us. When your outboard engine doesn't wanna start, it can of course have multiple reasons. From experience, the carburetor is the most common. Those little nozzles can clog up quickly and practically starve the engine. Sounds difficult but no worries, it's actually pretty straight forward. In this video I show you how to take out the carburetor, open it up, clean it safely, and reassemble everything with expected result, the engine starts and runs like new! Tools required: Socketwrenchset, screwdrivers, some rags and patience. So let's fix our Yamaha 8HP two-stroke outboard together! Enjoy the video, please like and subscribe and leave a comment, we are looking forward to it :-)!

In last week's episode, I arrived at the marina to find my Torqeedo Travel 1103C outboard had been damaged by a severe wind storm. It wasn't so much the 40 mph winds, as it was the direction of the winds directly into the marina. According to the marina staff, there were 3-4 foot waves rolling right over the breakwater and swamping all the marina docks. Several boats were damaged and the only other sailboat at the lake broke from its mooring ball and ended up against the shore. So in this episode, the replacement part arrives from Torqeedo. I teardown the Torqeedo Travel motor, install the new part, reassemble the motor and perform a function check. Overall, it was a pretty easy installation, albeit quite expensive. This incident really has me wondering if keeping my sailboat in a marina in this volatile part of Colorado is sustainable. There's a reason this marina only has 12 slips and I've been the only sailboat to ever rent a slip here. Maybe it's time to become a daysailor? Subscribe and follow @ColoradoSailing on YouTube for more original sailing videos, gear, boat maintenance, sailing tips and travel content as I sail my Precision 18 trailer sailer and Precision 16 sailing dinghy in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and South Dakota. #sailing #sailingdinghy #usedboat #boatrepair #Torqeedo
