In pratica, con la sua pressione, l'acqua riesce a penetrare nella carena della barca. Non è una magia, ma la composizione chimica del gelcoat che riveste lo scafo, può non essere perfettamente permeabile, per cui nel tempo si lascia infiltrare dall'acqua. Questo comporta poi che l'acqua continua a correre ed appesantisce e indebolisce contemporaneamente tutta l'opera viva. Si può arrivare al punto che tutto debba essere sostituito, siccome marcito e irriparabile. Il processo di riparazione a regola d'arte è lungo e va gestito da professionisti. In breve i processi: 01. Pulitura Va pulita bene la carena e poi analizzare bene dove l'osmosi ha attaccato. Per cui segnare e circoscrivere i punti. 02. Rimozione del gelcoat Togliere i gelcoat dove si presenta il problema con attrezzaure professionali. Far scoppiare le bolle dove si presenta l'acqua acetosa. 03. Risciacquo Risciacquare il tutto con acqua tiepida per evitare residui di acqua acetosa 04. Asciugatura Fare ascigare bene il tutto per un minimo di 3 mesi 05. Ristratificazione Stratificare nuovamente i punti con materiali specifici epossidici 06. Stuccatura Stuccare e pareggiare ove necessario. Sempre con materiali epossidici specifici 07. Carteggiatura Carteggiare e perfezionare i materiali applicati 08. It was a big day in the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli LEQ12 programme with big mistral breeze combining with an offshore swell that gave the sailors their most thorough sailing test to date. The Italians passed the test with flying colours however, as they literally rocketed around the Bay of Angels in the 17-20 knot breeze in the morning that saw the LEQ12 staffed with six crew and the smallest J4 jib up front. As the weather eased into the early afternoon, the crew went down to four – two on each side – with Jimmy Spithill and Ruggero Tita at the controls in the respective pods. From a sailing perspective, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli were exercising long runs in the Bay and Vittorio Bissaro, the Flight Controller onboard gave a fascinating insight into sailing these boats in the upper wind ranges. When asked about manual control versus flight control, he said: Well, the biggest difference between the auto-pilot and me, and every foil trimmer, is that so far the auto-pilot is a lot better than humans. Swedish mast and deck hardware manufacturer, Seldén Mast has expanded its range of electronically driven sail handling products with the launch of the CXe45 two-speed electric Code 0 furler. Like other electric products from Seldén, including the Furlex Electric and E40i electric winch, CXe45 runs on SEL-Bus and a Power Supply Unit (PSU) converting 12V or 24V to 42V. SEL-Bus is a CAN bus system (Controlled Area Network) with software that combines intelligence and power on board to sense and adapt loads for maximum efficiency and safety. It was all happening in Pensacola yesterday, the perfect winter training venue for the New York Yacht Club American Magic team who continued their relentless training programme aboard the modified Patriot with another long session in near-perfect conditions and dolphin sightings. Beneath high cloud, on a perfectly smooth Bay and a gentle 5-8 knots of breeze all afternoon, the Americans revealed their re-cut MN-B1 mainsail, adapted for the boomless set-up and hydraulic clew, with a slightly bigger sail area to give them additional horse-power in the take-offs. Paul Goodison who was helming all day today, crossing the stern with athleticism, seemed pleased with progress: “Obviously we had our new mainsail up today and we were basically trying to figure out what the wind range of that sail against the other (main) sail was…we only had to tow up twice which was obviously quite different to what we’ve been doing so far, so quite a successful day.” And he continued: “We can still be really productive on the light days. Five teams have hit the water so far in the race to win the 37th America's Cup. The boats they are developing will be a step on from what we saw in Auckland in 2021. The foils will be larger to promote quicker lift and faster flight. The boats will be lighter and onboard, the number of crew has been reduced from 11 to 8. The move to reduce the crew means cycle power is again legalised, and the cyclors, introduced by Team New Zealand in 2017, will return to the game. It’s the news that every fan of the Luna Rosa Prada Pirelli Team wanted to hear and today out in a mistral-infused Cagliari, the Italians were back in action going through a series of test tows with their LEQ12. In total four runs were conducted varying between 30 seconds and three minutes with speeds ranging from 19 to 32 knots – all without the damaged mast that is still in the shed undergoing checks and repairs after the incident on the 7th November that saw the rig fall from its hoist ending up on the dockside with some noticeable damage both to the masthead and the stern gantry on the LEQ12 itself. With a couple of weeks of enforced no sailing time, Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli have spent the time constructively as Carabelli offered: “We used this opportunity to do some changes and some adjustments to all the electronics and mechatronics that are a big part of these parts. In the towing we can learn a lot from all these works that have been done and it was very useful to put everything together and be sure that we don’t lose any time in the future when we go back sailing.” Section 41.
